I mean I don’t think it’s out of nowhere. It’s been implied that the gods operate sort of like the mafia, so it makes sense that they have mafia tendencies. I’m glad we get the option though if you want to play at a more ruthless MC and at least we also get an option to save Pete or walk away as well.
I kind of liked the “sacrifice” angle, personally. Felt like a connection to the fact that these are gods who once received blood sacrifices, plus Jackie’s characterization up till then felt like it was building to something like that. I mean, this is Zeus after all.
While MC is a God MC live as Human being so to ask that so suddenly for some might be too much.
Beside bullying a person tied up and helpless doesn’t seem to be Ares thing.
Clearly Zeus decided to take a more direct approach) She told Billy to try to kill you during the match and wanted you to make the audience fight each other. Taking Pete’s finger is a fitting follow-up imo, considering they are gods and something like a mafia family.

Exactly. I’m getting big “literal weapon of war” vibes from that exchange; like we could - and are likely expected to - devote ourselves entirely to Zeus and just be their attack dog with little actual personhood or agency. Could be part of why there are so many mixed feelings about Ares returning to fold.

The demo is absolutely great. Rage scene was phenomenally perfect.
The only thing weirding me out is Zeus… Caring about Ares… And calling him his favorite warrior??? ( Athena wherever she is might mistakenly curse someone over that)
Honestly i expected most of the Olympians to be happy over Ares’ departure apart from Hera and Aphrodite.
Well since this story took place in different universe and different mechanism as Olympian in the myth it probably will be different I mean there is Hades as well in the gang Zeus normally dislike Hades.
I would assume it’s different than the Olympian we know.
Yeah, I indeed am basing the assumptions on the olympus we know. I would say most of the things aligned well enough, and reasons have been hinted for Aphrodite’s dislike… So i am not seeing many reasons to believe the relationships or myths generally differ in universe.
In other words, I don’t trust Zeus at all hmm.

I get the impression that Ares was Zeus’ thug in this setting, while I suspect Athena, goddess of wisdom, was probably less inclined to just blindly following orders.
I wouldn’t really put too much stock about Jackie’s claims of love considering Jackie’s ecstasy from Ares almost beating her son to death, they ring extremely hollow.
The MC could have responded to Jackie’s claims of being family with a “Thanks, but I already had one abusive parent, I’m not really shopping around for another.”
See, now I’m super wondering how the dynamic works with these Greek gods. Despite the reincarnation, is Jackie/Zeus still MC/Ares father? Not necessarily a blood parent but a soul parent. Basically were they actually kin living on Olympus before they started reincarnating. Time will have to tell.
