First Paradise - ASCII Futurism

Whilst coasting along the silver skirt of a star system aboard the survey ship - Luz y Lluvia - you and your crew discover something extraordinary. This discovery serves as a catalyst for the brimming emotional turmoil to follow shortly thereafter. The ship’s crew succumbs to bouts of depression and home-sickness, eventually they begin to deconstruct the value of artificial intelligence and their relationship with machines. Trapped in-between their goal and the many worlds that represent home; this is the story of a post-human’s spiral towards catatonia in the vast emptiness of interstellar space.

First Paradise takes place hundreds of years from today, across universes; it’s story told between distant planets by distant people. All seen through an ascii/unicode interface and volumes of interactive-text sequences. Trapped in-between their goal and the many worlds that represent home; this is the story of a post-human’s spiral towards catatonia in the vast emptiness of interstellar space.

Make a build for Mac, and I’ll bite.

#3

@Matt_Marcus Done.

Feel free to report any bugs, right now we’re in the process of working on a universal non-linear release (v5.0). For more info check out the wiki (found on the download page). Enjoy!

#4

First Paradise 4.0(Windows) released!

#5

Version 4.3 of First Paradise released.

#6

Sounds cool! I’ll check it out.

#7

This looks awesome, is there any word on when the Mac version will be up? (it appears to be not on the main download page, but I might be missing it somehow…)

#8

Funny enough we haven’t had much demand for it until the last few days. We’ll go ahead and get that back up, we just need to build the source in a Mac environment which for none of us is it the primary OS. But no worries, we’re on it! The last port is antiquated at this point we’ll be looking a get a new Mac release by early December.

#9

It looks great! I will take a look.

#10

Awesome, I’ll eagerly await December in that case

#11

Just wrote and posted a postmortem about this project (for those interested in the glorious fireball of bankruptcy and the hazards of creating IF as your primary business) which can be found here

Also, feel free to tell me about any bugs you come across. I still do support for v4.3.

The Mac version 4.5 of First Paradise has been released!

#13

Hurrah, Mac version! This looks fantastic, I’ll play it as soon as I have a chance

#14

Yes! I don’t know why I haven’t done the Linux port yet…it’ll be out sometime tomorrow!

Note on the Mac build. If you get the blinking cursor let me know. This is something I found exists on some big Apple monitors.

#15

So far I haven’t got any blinking cursor problem (I’m not using a monitor, only a laptop) but if that does happen I’ll be sure to inform you

#16

Thanks!

Update: I took some time out to make a little trailer for sequence 1. Linux build is a little late but that’s just because of playtesting. It’s coming!

Update: This project is now on Patreon!

Still kickin, still ticking away at it and will continue to do so. In light of the pending “Sequence 2”, have a short story:

Also, the Patreon page is no more. The game was accepted for release via Desura on the 22nd of April. This should eliminate the whole separate downloads-per-update thing. Still, since I tend to stay away from that top-heavy nonsense myself there will always be te option of direct download, no BS attatched.
