I really want to play a CoG that’s low-key. What I mean is, something where there aren’t a million different terms, kingdoms, alliances, and other stuff that’s really hard to keep track of. What I mean is, I’d like something like the stories of Visual Novels, where the plot takes a backseat and the romance is the focus. Any recommendations?
Are you referring to CoG titles only or does this include HG titles?
For HG titles, Wayhaven Chronicles is the only title that I am aware of the focuses on romance. Book One is already out in IOS, Android, Amazon and Steam.
For CoG, I can’t seem to find any for now that focuses on romance.
Creatures Such As We is a slice of life romance. There’s a little bit of setting–the MC is a tour guide on a moon base, and there’s a subplot that’s a game within the game that has some minor and easy to follow worldbuilding–but it’s definitely low-key and has a big emphasis on romance and spending time with characters.
I haven’t tried this out yet. I have to check this out. =)
You might like Love At Elevation, too. Romance is the plot.
The Magician’s Burden is lowkey pretty lowkey. I guess it has lots of stats, but it’s a slice of life and there are no major stat check fails.
I’ve played Wayhaven Chronicles, and while it’s amazing, it’s not quite what I’m looking for because the MC and the Love Interest don’t actually get together at the end, and it’s a bit heavy on all the meta terms that I don’t really understand.
I also played Creatures such As We but I was kinda disappointed that in the end, the romance is basically the same no matter which character. I wish there was a bit more variety, but basically that is kind of what I’m looking for
Definitely don’t play Choice of Rebels.
Allow me to impart, my list.
Psy High
Summary
A very charming slice of life about high schoolers with powers. There is a stat system, but it is extremely hard to mess it up. Prom, young love, evil teachers. It’s light and heartfelt. I enjoy it as an easy read.
Welcome to Moreytown
Summary
There I was totally against furries when this little gem appeared. The main focus is to catch a criminal or something while living your life. You can join a gang or not, and it has some cute, if cliche romances. I liked it well enough.
Double/Cross
Summary
I read this thing YEARS ago, like when I was 15 or something. You are a bodyguard for a rich person, and live in their house. Your goal is to protect them. There is romance, two I think? One with your boss and then another. I found you can basically ignore the stat system all together in this really, if you wish.
Yeti’s Parole Officer
Summary
I really didn’t even read anything that wasn’t romance. The title says it all. You are a myth parole officer, who basically watches legends like the yeti. It was a nice premise, had decent writing and was easy to figure out. Not much replay ability, but entertaining nonetheless.
Unnatural
Summary
Thia can easily be defined as young adult, with a good plot, and satisfying romance. Your family is murdered by a supernatural creature, prompting you to join and agency that deals with them. Maneuver through it and romance a little. You can die, but I found it rather simple.
Sixth Grade Detective
Summary
You are a sixth grader, who is the local “detective”. Your main goals are to find a stolen bike, and get a date to the dance. Pretty heavy stuff there. It was cute, and heartwarming. It was also a simple, fun game. Some “awes” may or may not have been said.
Now I will add some in between ones.
Superlatives
Summary
It could be my guilty love of Lord Dusk, but I always adored this one. You are the temp leader of a “hero” society that’s leaders go missing. You must dodge amidst politics, your own life, and the mysterious missing superlatives. Most of the game comes down to common sense, but you can fail. I loved this one and always will.
The Courting if Miss Bennet
Summary
This is more so for a female audience, but it is a Pride and Predgidice(how tf do you spell this?) based romance. I loved it to bits, especially the grumpy RO that just oozes everything I look for in a man. He’s basically my SO. It’s really simple, you are courting a man, and must choose a good one, and secure his hand. It’s very lovely and a romance well worth it. It can be difficult though, due to the proper and wordy writing.
Paradigm City
Summary
It is a bit of a coming of age story for your hero MC. It was decently difficult, but not annoyingly so. The romances were good and I would play it again. A very sound game if I must say so.
There are many more I enjoyed, that were not like Samurai of Hyuga, or Choice of Rebels (@Havenstone I see you, you mule loving person you!!) but these few should start you off well:
Enjoy.
That’s because it’s part of the series. Currently, Book Two is on the development and five more books to come per author’s plan.
I know that. But honestly because of Wayhaven I don’t read incomplete series because the wait is torture T_T
honestly…a choiceofgame thats heavy on romance and nothing else…would be hard to find . Your best bet would be to go on Steam and find a real visual novel…who have nothing but romance…with tiny story as background .
I’ve played every MxM visual novel on the market… so that’s why I’m looking at CoG/Hosted Games. Maybe I should write a purely romance focused Hosted Game?
you mean…you wanna write a romance focused hosted game? or change your question that ? XD I need more coffeee…
as an fxf player…I know the feeling though…I do enjoy a good story as well . I find romance only focused visual novel…a bit…well…not well written .
have you tried this one ?
The waiting part is hard, I agree. That’s probably why I read the author’s Tumblr to ease the long wait. I do encourage trying out other titles though, even if they are not romance focus.
Yes, I played that game (and all Winter Wolves games as well). I also agree that most romance focused visual novels have horrible writing, but there are some gems (Heirs & Graces is one of them).
I don’t necessarily mean romance-focused only but rather any games without hundreds of terms, kingdom, alliances, etc. to keep in mind. For example, The Lost Heir: The Fall of Daria was an excellently written game, and had lots of romance. But I couldn’t get into it because there were so many people, alliances, kingdoms, etc. to keep track of. I felt more like I was doing a job, always having to write down certain names, places, etc. (I have a bad memory) to keep track, and I wasn’t really spending much time enjoying the game. Does that make sense?
If you want MxM visual novel, I believe the English localization of Koshotengai no Hashihime is due to come out soon. Watch out for that one! It’s got an involved plot so not a simple story, but it’s got nice romances and because visual novel, route focused.
If you don’t need romance, I made a game about a child’s low-key adventures in a village where not much happens. It’s basically an emotion sim with a focus on friendship, family and community.
Well as well as the ones I offered I have many others that are WiPs and finished I can link.
If you will, I shall offer a drop down below for any who wish for good visual novels in general.
Since BxB was specified the first two tabs are those.
Enjoy ;3
