@cascat07, did you get that at the end of chapter 3 or 2?
@Sneaks, I see. Thanks. Do you think the game should balance for players who decide to pick another 2 stat, instead of going to 3?

That is Chapter 2 stats
Wow, how did you manage that, sigh I just can’t seem to “gid gud” at this part.
Also to put them into a position where you’re forced to compromise with at least some of them as they can do some real damage to our rebellion should they mutiny, particularly Breden in mine (and yes, I dread to think what the consequences down the line will be from giving a pious kryptast that kind of influence.).
The secret to this run is you have to start off being a prick. I raided the yomen for their grain and mules the first turn with everything I had that I didn’t need to start some of the scouting missions and raid the noble barn too. I paid the yomen back later.
That you have to keep hitting the tithe barn along with ordering around 50 bushels a week. You also have to hit that mule raid ASAP.
Here’s the author’s thoughts on this from, Jeepers Creepers !! , has it really been that long ago?
I assume they’re still largely valid.
Okay how does @Havenstone do that fancy inline thing to display old posts?
A low Charisma MC, huh?
Ha, thanks for the link. It’s been very helpful.
Yep, well moderate actually but a 1 in charisma isn’t actually all that useful all that often. To date only in actually preventing a massacre after the initial uprising, but that’s about it.
But definitely planning to end up as “Merlin” in my canon playthrough.
@cascat07 Those are some nice hints, I’ll keep them in mind next time I playtest. How did you get more followers?
@idonotlikeusernames, Do tell. I myself like to play as different characters to find out if any of the stats feel easier than others. So far, charisma has seemed like a good option. But I think my favorite one is intellect.
When you have enough free followers you can start a recruiting mission. I think it is the choice under setting traps. If you send Brenden to do that after you get your mules sufficiently up you can gain a lot. I have recruited as many as 40 followers a week by sending out 100 free follower the last week with Brenden. I…also lost 70 or so with my aggressive raiding.
Oh, intellect is my fave too, I think the problem with the “average” stats is more that they negate some negatives, rather than provide outright positive outcomes, as that seems to be up to your high stat. That said high INT is likely the weaker stat in the first one or two games, needing time and training to really come into its own, particularly where magic use is concerned.
I really like that if you rely on Breden a lot, other people WILL notice and point out to you that you may be shooting yourself in the foot here. I don’t think there’s an immediate risk of a being overthrown, because Breden is obviously not interested in putting themselves in a leadership position (whether this is a calculated move or a cold feet is open to interpretation). The actual risk is what we already see at Ch.4, that Breden can corner you by using the other rebels against you and turning into a figurehead. Radmar tries manipulating you in the same way, but he is less subtle and thus easier to counter.
But if the winter’s tug-of-food taught me anything, is that long-term thinking is a luxury. Even if the MC is aware and worried about the power balance shifting, they have to rely on the other members if they want to survive long enough to worry about a possible coup.
Or in other words high Cha characters, like Breden, are far more dangerous to a high Int character than high combat skill thugs, like Kalt or Radmar.
I’m not as worried about my authority since I can light them on fire with my brain…
Post the link on its own separate line? Or did you mean something else?
No, that’s what I meant, thanks Fairy.
Well, not exactly, not yet anyway…
Remember, outright trying to turn the temple raid into a horror show by horrific mutilation of the Ecclesiast tends to backfire on us relatively untrained mages.
Charismatic, manipulative people are naturally the worst threat in any power-play. Considering that the game here is swaying the masses, it’s no surprise a natural skill with people is an advantage. That said, relying entirely on charismatic appeal can and will backfire eventually, when your followers start demanding actual results - as any experienced politician can testify. Maybe that’s why Breden avoids the direct leadership role, where you have no to back you up when you fail.
I’ve been getting a new bug since the latest bug fix. It happens to me after the moot votes to return to the Helot camps as deputy Breden suggested and Zvad announces his intention to leave the band. I’ve gotten an error message now on both the top and middle responses to Zvad leaving. This error message is for the middle response. I had been able to get past this screen yesterday with both top and middle responses.
That was actually part of the reason I always make zvad my second now.
He mostly seems to care about surviving
Has experience
And battle experience
(Also he doesn’t care about how I reform the government as long as he lives to see it.)
@Havenstone if a miracle happens and our rebellion prevails can I give zvad tons of cash and land for his loyal service(if he is loyal)
Yes, that’s why populists aren’t generally very keen on actually forming, or assuming government. Still with Breden, more than the fact that she might be a kryptast, it’s her piety and apparent devotion to that awful, gay shaming (at least if you’re a helot, like my mc), caste system maintaining, oppressive, religious nonsense the Hegemony loves to spout.
Zvad is far less useful overall though, here’s to hoping we can snag a very charismatic skeptic sometime soon, eh?
I’m willing to accept somewhat less useful if it means I’m not kicked out of my rebellion by someone who seems to have mostly been talk.
So yea hoping to that charismatic skeptic.
