Just googled the city and now I understand. I figured the army was a few days to a week out and they killed their families when they could have ran. I didn’t realize they were besieged and in that case it makes sense.

I haven’t been following in a long while I think when the demo stops just after you get the guy who murdered his master and is a crazy powerful guy and your whole entire group is scaling up a mountain and you have to send someone to scout and engage a group of people in a certain way. And everyone now talking about being able to do blood magic and such if there’s a new link to the demo or does the top link go to the new demo also what’s going on in terms of story?
Nothing has really changed people have just been discussing hypotheticals and asking about how we could hypothetically use our magic in the game. Also the top link is up to date and I believe it automaticlly updates a.
How come no one has answered my important question can we use the theurges spouse should they have one against them? It’s a viable question.
Because I’m busy writing, and there is alas no guarantee that even good questions will get answered on this thread. If yours hasn’t been, just ask it again.
In this case: you’d have to find the spouse first, and Theurges usually keep their spouses far from where they work. If you’re talking about any of the Theurges who’ve appeared in the game already, your character wouldn’t know where to begin effectively looking for their husbands/wives.
It’s also unlikely that I’ll write a Theurge-spouse-threat plot because it would have too many of the same beats as the tax collector subplot I’ve already written.
By the time that your rebellion is powerful and geographically far-reaching enough to track down Theurge families, you’ll probably have other interesting ways to deal with them.
That’s a part of the existing game. Pick reading/reasoning as your key stat.

- Are Phalangite tactics a Karagon invention or were they used by others before?
- Have you attributed the ranged weapons to the different regions, and if not, would you you like to hear my ideas?

Current Phalangite tactics are definitely an invention of the Hegemony, drawing not just on the experience of Karagon but on lots of things improvised by commanders from all over the empire (and thus drawing on their own provinces’ military histories, as well as entirely new tactics invented in response to the constraints of Theurgic warfare). The main pressure for the Phalangites comes from fighting Halassur on and off for a few centuries, so there’s been a lot of time for things to evolve from whatever “pure” Karagond tactics originally existed.

@Havenstone 2. OK, here’s what I think on the ranged weapons in the Hegemony:
a. Bows are likely widespread weapons all over the Hegemony, as they are mentioned in the codex. In West Shayard and possibly in Wiendj they use traditional longbows, but since you mentioned that the Neres/Nyr are horse-nomads, I think they use smaller recurve bows.
b. Crossbows were likely invented in the more advanced/urbanized costal Shayard or Erezza and a possibly many different models/variants were developed in the different Erezzine city-states.
c. The huge crossbows described by @cascat07 are more like light artillery then firearms. Since Shayard was the ascending Empire before the Karagondians started using Theurgy, the army reorganization similar to Qin Shi Huang’s could have been done by Shayard’s penultimate King/Queen. The Hegemonial phalangites likely took over this tactics.
d. Since you mentioned that black powder is used in mining and most mines are in Erezza, it’s likely that the first cannons and possibly guns too were developed there.
e. Slings could be the weapon used by many helots and yeomen in Shayard and possibly in Karagon and Erezza since the codex allows bows to nobles only.
f. The staff sling could be a Hegemonial invention. They could originally have used ordinary slings to provide fire support to their hoplites as @Golgat said and when they developed hoplite tactics to phalangite tactics the staff sling was invented and implemented too.
g. The compressed air rifle is most likely the newest invention, and the production and use of them is for sure one of the technologies allowed only in Karagon proper.
h. Since the abhumans live in the jungle, they could be using blowguns. If they have better lungs then normal humans, their darts/pallets would fly faster and longer.
What do you (and other, particulary @cascat07, @idonotlikeusernames, @Golgot and @Player) think of this?
It all seems plausible I suppose it is a matter of what is in @Havenstone’s mind at this point.
With the compressed air rifle what are the soldiers using for mechanical leverage to compress the air and how is it being stored?
Another major factor is the ballistics of the projectiles being used by each of these weapons. The heavy crossbows used by Qin Shi Huang for example had an iron core, which is what gave them their tremendous velocity and penetrating power (for the time period).

Having dismally, dismally failed at last year’s New Year’s resolution, I figured I’d better post whatever I’d got by December 31st, just to confirm that yes, this is very much still In Progress. So for anyone still paying attention, here’s the long overdue update.
A couple changes that the observant may note:

An achievement menu. (Yay for finally updating my version of ChoiceScript!) So far all the achievements are for stuff in Chapter 3, but as I rework the earlier chapters I’ll throw some in there too.

The Game 1 subtitle is now Outlaw rather than Uprising. I’m trying out the idea that the subtitles will refer to you at different stages of your rebellion, and this is definitely your Robin Hood phase.

Platon’s name is now Horion. As the character evolved, he acquired a strong interest in philosophy – to the point where I thought having him share a name with one of the foundational figures of Western philosophy would be misleading.

EDIT: Over the past few months I’ve made a few minor tweaks in the earlier chapters, which I’ve mostly forgotten making. For example, you can now come across Zvad and Sybla having a chat; and I’ve slightly streamlined the jongler prologue so it’s a bit less of a historical infodump. Let me know if you come across anything else that looks unfamiliar!

Chapter 3 is… getting towards… finished! OK, there’s still some key stuff left. The Hector Keriatou vignette I’m working on at the moment is proving to be tremendously fun in several directions, and I’m thus temporarily wrapping up several of the unfinished threads with “watch this space.” Also, much of what I’ve written in the last couple weeks hasn’t been edited properly, so forgive some bugs and clunky or (more than usually) purple prose.
The Hector vignette will be followed by some brief “reinforcements arrive based on your stats” stuff, which I’ve sketched out in this update. And finally, I need to write relationship-developing scenes with your father (and possibly Breden) to close out the chapter.
I’ve added a shortcut from the beginning for you to be able to go and play through all of Ch 3 that I’ve got so far. Tell me what you think… and find bugs! I’m sure there are plenty.
Here’s what hasn’t changed:
- Pretty much everything in the rest of the game, bar the minor tweaks I mention above. I’ve not revisited bugs or the other fixes to earlier chapters we’ve discussed on the thread. The first things on my writing agenda for 2015 are to finish Ch 3 and try a restructure of Ch 2.
And then I’ll write Ch 4… and then publish! Light at the end of?.. ah, who am I kidding. But I hope you enjoy the update.
There’s a missing variable that prevents me from advancing to chapter 2.
There is also a missing word in Chapter 3:
““You don’t need to go as far as Whendery to meet a , kurios,” you point out.”
“And no number of s using only their own blood is going to threaten the Hegemony”
I assume it’s a malfunctioning variable since the word Theurge would fit in both slots?
There’s an error that prevents me from progressing past the first save point (It opens, and then i can do nothing. Pretty sure after that chapter 2 starts, but it’s been a while since i’ve played) Figured you’d want to know when the game breaks and isn’t playable for people.
I found another game-breaking bug, after picking in Chapter 3 (using the oh-so-useful “skip me to chapter 3” button) to deal with your cousin who just murdered your stuff (picking the trap option) this is what showed up (Screenshotted it, but i’ll just put the error in text)
strangers line 7143: invalid expression at char 16, expected OPERATOR, was: Inequality [!]
That was the error message word-for-word. No idea what it means, but figured it may be useful for you.
