Choice of Games and Hosted Games Recommendations -- Consolidated Thread

The Shadow Society is well worth it. There were people who complained about the story being too convoluted and confusing (personally, I thought it was supposed to be, given the situation the MC was thrust into), so Cara actually went back and did some major edits and additions to clarify things. She’s doing one last edit for character interactions, which should be done fairly soon.

The characters are freaking amazing. There are five possible LIs, all quite different from each other, as well as two others that we meet in this book but will actually start being developed properly in book 2 (including the “bad guy”). I don’t want to give too much away here, because I know some people don’t like spoilers (I’m a spoiler whore, so it’s killing me!), but I will tell you that the romances are already shaping up to be incredible. Some are the dreaded “slow burn”, but others move quicker, and you already see some progress in at least two of them by the end of the book.

I highly suggest it, though once you buy it, you might want to wait to start it until Cara finishes the last update. I’ve already played it several times, and have no regrets. I just keep flip-flopping on who I want my girl to hook up with!

@augustus27 Is Tin Star locked to playing a male? I had thought it was, so didn’t intend to get it. Plus, from what I heard, the romances are a bit disappointing unless your MC prerfers girls.

Sure! Choice of Magic is a fantasy with heavy action/adventure elements. It is a bit lighter on the romance (though they are still there, and pretty good).

Another option is Pon Para and the Great Southern Labyrinth, though I will say this this game isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. It is also fantasy and action/adventure, but it is fairly lore heavy with lots of explanation of the history of the world. From what I’ve played the romances are pretty good, not the best but still memorable. It is part of a series that isn’t finished (second book is set to come out this year though!) so the romances will probably be expanded upon there.

Edit: @EvilChani Tin Star is not gender locked! You can play as male, female, or non-binary. Also from what I’ve read, both the male and female ROs are very good. I’d definitely suggest you give it a shot, it’s one of the most well regarded games in the HG/CoG library.

Edit 2:

It is definitely more stat focused than some other games, but if you use builds that generally make sense (high resolve priest/high dexterity archer) it should be fine. Just shoot me a PM if you want to talk more about Pon Para since it’s one of my favorite games that’s been published so far
As for whether it’s worth $6.99, that’s again not really something I’m sure I can answer, but I’d be happy to discuss it in my PM (wouldn’t want the thread to be t too clogged up haha)

Thank you! Choice of Magic was one I read recently and I definitely loved the plot. Pon Para is one I actually just found out about. Is it more stat focused? Also is it worth the $6.99?

That sounds really good! Is the story line slow or more fast paced? Also do your choices influence the story or is it more random?

The story varies in how it moves. Sometimes, you get caught up in events and it seems to flash by, then it will slow down so you get a chance to know the NPCs. In my opinion, it’s a good mix. I hate it when stories move so fast you have no real interaction with your team.

As for the choices, your choices do matter, but the MC is being thrown into a situation/world they don’t understand, so they’re pretty underpowered compared to the team. Sometimes, the MC just gets swept up into events, but can still choose what paths to take. And you can play a total dick, if you so choose (it leaves you feeling horrible, though!). There are a couple of choices that may come back and bite you in the ass, too. One, in particular, left my poor MC traumatized for life at what she’d almost done, lol.

Thank you! I like the way that sounds. I think I will read the demo and then make a decision.

Hi!

What are some games with good romance? I’ve been playing these games for a while and my favorite part of them has to be the romance, there are so many to choose from I’d love some recommendations, it’d be so fun to hear why you like the game(s) too! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Welcome to the forum!

The relatively new ‘Hearts Choice’ is almost entirely dedicated to romance. That is a good place to start. A somewhat limited number of games, but they are quite diverse and of high quality.

Hosted Games has a great selection as well. ‘The Wayhaven Chronicles’ is excellent and had a sequel published a few days ago. ‘Keeper of the Sun and Moon’, and ‘Heart of the House’ are solid choices too.

The base Choice of Games line have a few games that focus on romance too. ‘Crème de la Crème’ comes to mind.

Honestly, there are so many games with excellent romance stories. These are probably good places to start I think.

Not specifically a romance game, but Tin Star had very good romances and a great plot too. If you’re looking for an action/adventure type book you can’t go wrong with Tin Star.

I’m looking for games on here that are not supernatural? I’ve played a couple but haven’t seen any new ones.

Have you played Breach: The Archangel job? It’s, in my opinion an excellent game.

Tally Ho is super fun! Not supernatural, but also not super grounded in reality tho

Hi @dwrds_nthn,

Might I direct you to use this thread instead of creating an entirely new one?

You’ll probably get a lot more responses to your question. Thank you.

Have a good one.

mm, I don’t think that applies. The what’s that game thread is for people who need a reminder on titles of games and WIPs. OP here is asking for all titles that fall outside of supernatural genre.

also @dwrds_nthn “not supernatural” also means “not fantasy”, right?
