I wonder how everyone’s Bearers would react at meeting Priscilla. Mine would be indifferent, she served her purpose in creating a vessel for him, nothing else.
I am not very much interested in meeting mommy dearest either. Even with all the scheming Athena did a decent job.
Well the gods from Greek mythologies aren’t exactly the same as the ones in the game. They seem a bit more civil so maybe it will be different.
I wonder if Athena isn’t genre savvy and tries to instill and use the humanity of the MC. It would be clever, even if futile with my MC.
I mean, there’s so much expectation within the context of your relationship with the gods that I really wonder whether its possible to have a healthy relationship with them; they literally expect you to save them and the galaxy they’ve had dominion over for billions of years. Even if you look past that, they’re celestial, you’re not. You grew up knowing you were different frm the mortals around you, but the extent of your other-ness was never revealed to you (I imagine tht it would have bred some incredible, incredible loneliness and Athena probably wanted you to grow up as close to normal as she could manage given the circumstances) and the gods have just, they’ve been around so long, I can’t imagine what being immortal must feel like tht they’ve grown to view mortals as disposable and tht’s very clear to anyone who takes a second to think abt it. Was wht your dad felt for your mom authentic, sincere love? Whatever else was present in tht relationship, through all of it, she was a means to an end, and I don’t think she had any misconceptions about that. Take the way Zeus treats his children as an example! He’s not present until there’s something to be gained (your loyalty? everything’s @ stake, do you think there are lengths Zeus wouldn’t go to in order to ensure you were loyal to him?). @ The end of the day, can the beings who’ve enjoyed total dominion over the universe tolerate someone like you, someone all powerful, past your usefulness? Your continued existence, is after all, a latent threat to theirs. I wonder abt how lonely Aeson must have felt sometimes, and I wonder if he still does, even given the love of his friends. I think he must, YFM? The Bearer and Bestower have an entirely unique, singular experience, that’s your whole life and Aeson grew up intimately familiar with that. My Hades!Bearer is super perceptive, so the day you first meet Aeson and he falls off his chariot bloodied and bruised all while trying to rally the crowd, she recognizes tht tht’s probably been the reality of his life so far and it scares the shit out of her because she knows tht could just as easily have been her up there with him. She wonders if he honestly believes that Hades cares for him beyond his usefulness to him. My Zeus!Bearer, who’s going to romance him, feels a little bit of resentment towards him (but she knows tht it’s unwarranted and how could anything possibly have been his fault?) but she wonders abt his life with his mother growing up, and whether or not he’ll resent her for the loss of his powers.
Shit, did I really type this much? Who asked me LMFAO. Anyway me abt the gods
I usually refrain from this, but I’ve been indecisive the past few weeks when looking over these scenes.
Five questions that require feedback from anyone who wants to answer. I can’t guarantee that the suggestion will be implemented, but they’ll all be considered greatly.
First: In the third chapter, when meeting the pantheon for your summoning, what responses would you like to have? I edited that scene a few months ago to include a wider range of reactions, but it still feels incredibly…lacking, if I’m being honest. I want this moment to powerfully represent how your MC will go about their attitude toward the gods. What question would you ask before agreeing, if any? What would you want to say in order to defend yourself against Ares, Hera, Hestia, Hephaestus, and Aphrodite’s distrust against you? What would you bargain with in order to assure your assistance besides immortality? Power, freedom, wealth, the gods’ downfall?
Second: During the ceremony scene, the ability to initiate romances has been cut out due to pacing reasons; now the romances begin later in the game. A few thousand posts back many of you commented on how the MC seems more like an interviewer than a person with mere curiosity; what questions would you like to ask individual RO’s (including Santiago who in the earlier draft didn’t allow questions to be answered, Sage, an uninterested Psyche). Home life, beliefs/values, opinion of the MC?
Third: What questions would you have for your father? The earlier drafts answers were vague placeholders at best. What would you want to know about Priscilla? Whether your father truly cared? His opinion on Athena kidnapping you?
Fourth: Major spoiler regarding the first trial. click at your own discretion. During the first Trial there is the possibility of a death. I will not go into detail who, or when, or why, but the possibility is there, and that’s not changing (more plot related things). Would you feel more comfortable with the death being a result of your accumulation of choices during the trial, or a random occurrence that changes playthrough-to-playthrough?
Fifth: There is a minor interlude between the 9th chapter and the first chapter of Part Two of the game, in which the MC is warranted free time. Besides spending time with potential RO’s, what other activities would you like to be available? Studying, sightseeing, training, spending time with your godly parent/Athena, etc?
I’ve been struggling (agonizing over) with these interactions for a while, and I’ve finally decided to ask. The wonders of an open beta.
-
The ability to call out Hera would be nice :)) same with the rest of the gods considering the situation they put you in – pretty much capacity to ask about the whole seeker situation and to point out to them that you’ve been almost killed and hunted (and that them asking the MC to side with them is a very tall order in that sense). Also more time to talk to Hades if possible, like one question after you meet him again.
-
Personally I have no real qualms with the ceremony. But a better feel of Olympus politics might help considering the atmosphere – granted, the RO’s and the rest might not have a full grasp but it’s at least something. Also, if they can talk about what they know about your dad would be nice.
-
Definitely all of the above you’ve mentioned. And his side of the story why he allowed this particular set up to happen (Athena raising you and all until she kidnapped you). As for Priscilla, whatever info he can spare about her I guess. And idk if you’re planning a rewrite on this particular topic but if the MC hears about how their mother isn’t exactly liked from the get-go (I mean, let’s say Ares being very accusatory about her as their mother + the prophecy during the Summoning), and getting to ask about that would be great too
-
I feel better about having it as a choice/accumulation of choices. At least I know my choices in-game mean something and aren’t exactly aesthetic only
-
DEFINITELY BEING ABLE TO PIECE TOGETHER A FAMILY AGAIN ;A; — father/kid bonding time PLEASE — and idk if the choice still stands but maybe be able to visit Nephilim, or sleuth around for Priscilla info? Maybe also ways to up approval for the people/some other stat raising stuff?
All in all good luck! I’m very much still rooting for you :> @Rohie
1. Honestly, my MC would just like the option of “I just want to be left alone to live my life” kind of attitude and not having to deal with a war he cares nothing about. If he were to bargain, he would want either 1) not taking on all of the Essence at 18 or 2) having him protected from death of having it all. He wouldn’t exactly have motivation to fight a war if he will die regardless. I would also like to tell the naysayers that threatening someone with death is not the proper way to secure assistance and will almost guarantee betrayal if the other side treats him better. Also, confront Hermes (I think Hermes made the Seekers group) about their actions against you and if he knew. If he didn’t, he’s incompetent and the Seekers need to clean house or he does and is blatantly allowing both mortals and demi-gods to be captured/killed as has happened to/around the MC
2. Nothing immediately springs to mind at the moment, unfortunately.
3. The option to ask “Why bother getting to know me if I will die anyway” and being able to ask Hades what happened after he promised to come back but couldn’t.
4. If possible, a bit of both. If I had to pick one, make it your choices.
5. Trying to get into contact with the guy who removed your power limiter (forgot what it was called ) and maybe also making plans to try and escape.
- I would love to tell Hera off and be like “hey killing me won’t get you anywhere. In fact in my next life, I would destroy for doing that.” Or something along the lines that would disturb Hera. Also when Ares tries to attack Hades, it’d be nice to step between him and Hades and be like you won’t lay a hand on him.
- I would like to ask questions on what they think of the MC and the whole they created the universe especially with Aeson seeing as how he’s our other half. Also I noticed in the game that the MC is told by saint that Zeus is saint’s dad but during the ceremony we can’t interact with him like he’s our brother when we find out Zeus is the MC’s dad and the same with Aeson. That would be nice. Also being able to interact with all of them and Persephone during it would be nice.
- Why didn’t you say anything?(if Hades is your dad) Why didn’t you tell me when I got here?(if Hades isn’t your dad) Why weren’t you there for me like uncle Hades?(if Hades isn’t your dad) Were is my mother and what do you mean she’s dead? I would post a bunch more and I will edit this when I think of them.
- I would rather have be because of our choices. Like in Mass Effect 2, if you didn’t do the loyalty missions correctly or choose the wrong positions for everyone or took too long to get to the final mission, then people or your party members would die including yourself. This way the choice feels distinctly real and that our actions have meaning.
- Spending time doing something we like, spending time with dad and/or Athena, learning to master our powers etc.
Wow that was a lot. Anyways thanks for all you’ve done @Rohie. Probably my favorite CoG ever because Greek mythology is my thing. Keep doing what you’re doing.
First: Difficult to say. I can see my mc being willfully silent, though. As in refusing to give the gods the satisfication of a answer. I could also imagine some MCs wanting to confront the gods about their physco little hunters, espicially if they think the gods send them.
Second: The question should make sense for the characters, but to make it easier on yourself you could also have then be about the same thing you asked about. Ie you ask about school, they ask about school. I would recommend reading Guenevere and pay attetention to the scene where Arthur and Guen gets to know each other on their wedding night.
Third. His opinion on Athena kidnapping you would be good.
Four: NEVER EVER do such a thing a random. It is one of those thing which sound cool on paper, but the reality is that we won’t have the save system when the thing is finished so all it will lead to is frustration and reloading for the player.
Five. Searching for a hideout. My MC needs a place to alone.
I play my character as wanting to help the gods, I also pick the options of feeling like what I’m told all makes sense deep down. If anything I’d like to express my commitment to helping to them. As far as anything in return, well I’m always a fan of power, but immortality is good enough since I already have power, provided I still keep it with my immortality. If I were to really ask anything during that moment it would be “what happens to me after all this is over?”
Psyche I wouldn’t mind having a conversation with, maybe it’s the choices I make but I barely got to see her. Avery though is who I’m after and I would like to be able to ask her if she is single and what she’s looking for in someone (yes I know that she’s single and that she’s attracted to girls, but my character doesn’t…well she knows there’s chemistry, but it would be nice to know) Also what she thinks of me and my powers, I mean she’s not a demigod so I’m curious what her take on all this would be.
All off those, I’d love to know what Zeus thinks of me, my mom, Athena’s actions, what he would have done had I been brought to Olympus when I was supposed to and I’d also like to know if he likes me or Saint better
I’d rather have a choice in the matter with what I’ve done, like how the father’s are set up, I knew I wanted Zeus to be my father so that changed the choice I made that lead to that, I’d hate to have anything happen to someone I care about
Spending time with Zeus and Athena defiantly, one of the things I’d like to know during a visit with them is their opinion of my girlfriend
If I become a hunter will that save me from all this trouble?
I can’t help the way I was born…
My friend died!
I vote that if you’re in a certain stat range or make some choices it’s random, while others are certain. Making the entire thing random though is annoying,
Why are you in the trials? Mostly for Calypso since she has immortality plans already. Wouldn’t Sage just fight us?
Why was mom chosen, why was father chosen, who did the rest think was the father…
-
I agree with the general sentiment, have it be an accumulation of choices, the results of random dice rolls, while fun in a tabletop RPG would be extremely frustrating here.
-
My mc would be most interested in visiting Nephilim again, if there is any hope of a shortcut that allows him to actually control over and some degree of finesse with his “powers” nephilim would be the place he’d start.
Being forced to spend time with his family on the other hand really wouldn’t go over well, since both his brothers and his “father” have indicated through their actions that he’s not very welcome. -
My mc wouldn’t really ask Santiago anything he’d challenge him to some game of wits or logic and maybe if we manage o beat him there (which may just be barely possible with absolute maximum wit), we’d at least gain a little bit of respect from him, plus his reactions will let my mc get a first impression of him better than asking a series of questions would.
-
My mc has no questions for Hades, in fact he’d like the opportunity to immediately turn his back and walk away at that moment, without saying anything at all.
-
Once my mc realizes they aren’t going to kill him right that moment he probably couldn’t resist calling Ares a cute and somewhat lewd nickname, which would in effect be calling Ares out as all threats and no action.
Calling Hera out might be nice as well. My mc wouldn’t really attempt to bargain at that point since the Greek Gods have always been notorious loophole abusers and he wouldn’t trust them to keep any promise made anyway.
First: I’d like an option to stay wilfully silent. Also, smth where a pragmatic MC gets to express the desire to be open to negotiation, because as far as they’re concerned, the gods have no other means of winning this war. Not in a manner that makes it seem as though they’re overtly untrustworthy though, like just an option tht recognizes tht even if helping the gods is the last thing MC wants to do, they need to play nice until they’re certain of their upper hand. Maybe an option wherein a panicked MC who is way too overwhelmed to be having this conversation just…stares whilst trying to keep calm. Asking the Gods if they really expect you to be able to make any decisions with the amount of information you’ve been given would be nice too. Asking who TF Hera and Ares think they’re talking to would be risque but it speaks to an angry MC who’s having a hard time understanding why the Gods think they’re entitled to any favours would be nice too! Asking abt the Seekers, and why nobody seems to have done anything abt this, and not being willing to accept that the Gods didn’t know is something I’d like to see, as well :~)
Second: I want the option to ask them abt life at the Institute, and more abt their families as well (WO coming off as super nosey, lmfao but I can see why tht’d be hard)! Their interests, for one. What do they miss most abt their homes? Do they miss them at all? Definitely all of the ones you mentioned. I’d also like to know whether they were expecting the MC to be a certain way.
Third: Neither of my Bearers want to interact with their fathers, but I think the both of them would, because they want information. So, again, a pragmatic MC tht recognizes tht they need to file their ire away for another time but might still have a hard time looking @ dad. Conversely, a Bearer that doesn’t bother hiding that they don’t have any misconceptions abt their father viewing them as anything more than a means to an end, but still being civil. An angry Bearer that asks why they feel entitled to expecting anything from them, when they were never present? Maybe an angry Bearer that loves Athena could wonder abt how she’d want them to handle it. What was Priscilla like? What did they do together? How come they couldn’t find Athena? How come they didn’t do anything about the Seekers? Have they ever been in contact with someone who knew MC while they were on the run? Like, creatures of the Essence that recall seeing/speaking to MC (this sounds complicated, but even just an answer in passing that tells us the Gods might have had an inkling of an idea abt what our lives were like on the run)? What is being immortal like? Why do they view mortals as disposable? If you’re a child of Zeus, or Poisedon, asking whether they tell the mortal parents of their demigods abt their true natures might be interesting. How long has the institute been around? Asking Zeus why he doesn’t get along with Saint is smth I’ve really wanted to do.
Fourth: A culmination of all your choices, because it’ll have more weight than instead of being something you don’t have a great deal of control over.
Five: Nephilim, maybe? I think you mentioned seeing him again in part 3, and I don’t know tht the gods would let you just up and do that, but. I know this seems petty and doesn’t make for any meaningful additions to story/it’s probably the last thing on Bearer’s mind lmao but an option to go shopping! What does MC wear when they’re not in uniform? Wht’ll they wear on their odyssey? It’ll also be a chance for MC to see where the other demigods hang outside of the institute, and familiarize themselves with Olympus. A chance to see the institute library (maybe with Psyche or the ROS?) because my overachiever bitch Bearer really, really wants to see whether it’s as sprawling as the rest of the institute, and it’ll be a chance to learn something about a world we’re going to be forced to familiarize ourselves with (especially if we know wht our quest will be by then, we might want to know more abt it, and I bet the library is very well stocked). You already mentioned everything else, aha. + I think I recall you saying Adonis has a bit of a reputation in Essence verse, if we’re with him, I’d like to see tht maybe reflected? If there are magical creatures on Olympus, I’d really like to see that, too. Maybe like a stable? Or smth like the beast wrangler’s warehouse (cressimissius? IDK).
Good luck! We’re all super excited for the update !
-Accumulation of choices. No real death should be based on luck in a story totally focused game. Luck is for more rp heavy stories. More so if there is no back button you will found people restart until have their desire outcome if is random.
-I want to try to sell myself to them. Mara would say something with her great charisma
“I know many of you have concerns about me and The fact I born and was rised away from the Olympic glory. It was not my own doing. I would certainly had prefer being rised in the glory of my father presence. But since today, I will change that And with all my capabilities I will try to be the shiny beacon that illuminating our blessed citizens. It is the less I can do to become The Paladin of My father, Zeus. That his Thunder vanished his enemies!.”
Like is now Mara who is all charisma talks like a Cave woman. I want use my charisma and wit. I have no strength, so I have to see my no fighting skills matter. If not charisma looks like a dump stat. Also I want more text SHOWN MY character beauty charming other demigods. Stats says I am superhyper beauty nobody notices in game…
In the dance I want to try charming the population smile and pose with Aeson… And say to him . We are in this together If I fall you fall. So we have to be in this like a couple. Smile to everyone Darling, this is a battle like any other.
I want time to looking incredible and doing propaganda stuff type going Hospitals kissing babies. Also Flirting with Aeson during the process. We are one for people, so I want have him part of my strategy since beginning. Saying him Look Glitter shields… You are with me and I am a ruthless pretender and will charming my way and betray all of them to win.
Heh, you’re lucky you’re playing a woman then, my mc doesn’t really want to stand anywhere near Aeson, because then it would be all too easy to see at a glance who the inferior “brother” is. Goes for Saint too, but obviously to a lesser degree.
The fact that they are hard-coded to always be taller then the male mc, no matter, what doesn’t help as we are literally forced to look up to them.
Yep, whereas with my mc they’d just see his runt of a “brother” and nothing else.
Yeah, It helps me too. Look she is a pretty girl with the awesome Aeson. She can’t be a monster look what a wonderful couple. And people imaging something like a romantic fairy tale. Oh… You know celebrity crap. It helps that mara is about charisma and wit. Aeson will have to fight for me lol. Because Mara is pure crap half magician. So I really want that in no combat my skills making note. Due is my choice be bad in combat to be great in no combat.
I’ve been reading this topic for a very long time, just not interacting. This is definitely my favourite WIP and your doing a really good job @Rohie !
-
I really liked “Do you honestly think threatening me is the best way to get me to help you?” option, so it would be cool if that one could stay. The option to stay silent would be nice. Also some option for MCs who are angry with the Gods and for those who want to help.
-
I don’t think the problem is with the questions MC asks, but that the other person doesn’t ask anything back. That’s why it feels more like an interogation rather than conversation. I think if the other person could show some interest in MC with some questions of their own (could be the same questions MC asks) it would fix the problem.
-
The questions already mentioned like more info about Priscilla, his opinion about Athena and the situation with seekers etc. would be great.
-
Please don’t make it random.
-
Spending time with father/Athena. A chance to boost our skills would be also nice.
Ah, oop. I forgot to mention tht I’d really like opportunity to ask what Priscilla’s childhood was like, and what she was like growing up, as well.
First- I do like the wide range of responses that are available right now. But something I would personally say would be that I don’t have any love for the gods but if what they are asking is absolutely necessary for the preservation of earth and its inhabitants then I will do it. And I do not expect anything from them. If there is anything I would like then it would be for them to step down from their position but since that is not going to happen then I want nothing. And just a question if you do win the trials then will you be able to refuse the immortality?
Second- Well I do not have any suggestion on particular questions but I would like to ask you not to put all the questioning in one scene. Rather divide the total amount of question you can ask into a few scenes.
Third- Well that scene should be and always going to be awkward at least for me. How do you ask someone you’ve never known and who has suddenly been declared your father?
I suppose I would like to know about my biological mother and himself. But I do hope that we will get more than one scene for all that question and explaining.
Fourth- If there is a chance of death then it should be based on my choices alone.
Fifth- If I am on good terms with my godly parent then I would like some parental bonding time otherwise training (mental and physical). I would like to spend some time with Athena as well since we really never knew her in her form as a god.
