Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven: Part Four Discussion Thread

Cruising through some playthroughs, since it had an update in the store, and found a few things.

  1. Jude never stops living. If you kill em on the roof of the store, he’ll still pop up in the museum.
  2. A few things with the tasks and building stuff. The watchtower bug was fixed, but now after building them unless manually changed after completion people will continue to work on them. Second, buildings will appear as being “built” in the update given by your second in command, even if they were built before the previous report.
  3. Missy is called a “he” a few times after recruitment.
  4. WHERE IS PUDDLES?!?! I for the life of me, cant get Rachel to find them again
  5. If you decide to blow up the watchtower in the Thornes camp, you see Nat kinda get faceplanted and her legs broken. Then she gets shot passed a wall during the shootout.
  6. Not sure if I’m missing things, but there are a lot of gifts I cant seem to find? Even with Master scavenge. The IPad, Gummies, and a few others.
  7. Servnet locations. I remember you mentioned that we would be able to eventually go back to places where they could be placed and set one up in case we couldn’t at the time. Feels like the school one cant be built unless you do like two to three specific choices at the start. Also, tower and hospital are listed there, but I dont think we can go?
  8. Dog vanished? When going to save Kevin and the quest line after youre given the choice to bring your good boi, I didnt since they were having a blast with Mishy. Upon coming back, theyre just gone
  9. Never noticed this till now, but you can tell Jil and Lyle that you’re a teacher. Is this actually an option?
  10. When talking to guy in the library, you can tell him you’re all sort of stuff from the medical field or science field, even if you aren’t

Also, a big thank you for fixing the checkpoint thing, AND fixing the being able to continue from part to part instead of having to create a save and load it after selecting the next part. It makes the saves list HUGE if ya cant. An idea as well, in the craft menu I recommend a way to craft things “in bulk”. Having to create each landmine or the gun parts separately and going through the menus over and over is weird.

From the perspective of us - lowest buy being the trade partner we can buy the item from most cheaply, highest sell being where can sell our items for the most value

Highest Sell = 0 means you cannot not sell it at all.

Formatted on phone so any issues let me know

Trade Analysis
Overall
  • You can trade with the Southern Ute in Chapter 13 as long as you ask to trade now. In Chapter 15 if you’ve agreed to trade or formed a collective, you can trade with the River Dogs. You can trade with Red Mamba in Chapter 16 if you have a radio room.
  • As an example, you could buy food and consumable from Southern Ute. Sell them armour. Then sell food yo River Dogs (buy guns) and consumables to Red Mamba (buy gun accessories and ammo)
  • RangedHub is the simplest: buy cheap guns from River Dogs and ammo from Museum, sell guns high to Museum or Silverthornes; ammo to Silverthornes
  • Consumables are best sourced from Southern Ute flipped to trade partners like Silverthornes or Red Mamba Biker Club.
Southern Ute
  • Pays most for (category): Pays less in general, will pay most for armour (except Motorcycle Helmet)
  • Cheapest to buy from (category): Consumables / staples: Southern Ute is the lowest buyer (i.e., cheapest seller) on food, basic consumables and many everyday equipment items.
  • Overall: Southern Ute is a staples source + equipment buyer: buy consumables (food, batteries, soap, bandages) from them cheaply and sell high‑value equipment to them when you have it. Example: Food (5 units) can be bought from Southern Ute at 4 and sold to River Dogs at 8.
Red Mamba Biker Club
  • Pays most for (category): Heavy consumables & technical items. RMBC posts the highest buy prices for things like explosive charges, solar/heavy batteries and other technical consumables.
  • Cheapest to buy from (category): Ammo and some WA/parts. RMBC appears as the lowest buyer (cheapest seller) on several ammo and weapon‑part lines.
  • Overall: RMBC is a specialist buyer of technical/heavy consumables. Sell explosives, heavy batteries, and technical parts to RMBC; source common ammo and small parts from cheaper partners and flip to RMBC when margins exist.
Museum
  • Pays most for (category): Ranged weapons & collectibles. The Museum group posts the highest buy prices for rare/collectible ranged items.
  • Cheapest to buy from (category): Ammo. The Museum is frequently the lowest buyer (cheapest seller) on multiple ammo types. Alongside bolts, arrows, etc.
  • Overall: Treat the Museum as an good group to sell your excess high‑value ranged/unique items to, buy standard ammo cheaply from the Museum when listed and sell rare firearms/collectibles to them.
River Dogs
  • Pays most for (category): Ranged weapons & tactical gear. River Dogs consistently show the highest buy, and interest in, rifles, shotguns and combat/tactical items.
  • Cheapest to buy from (category): Ranged weapons and accessories. River Dogs are often the lowest buyer (cheapest seller) across many RangedHub and Weapon‑Accessory lines.
  • Overall: Primary firearms market. Buy rifles and weapon parts cheaply from River Dogs and either use them or sell to premium buyers (Museum / Silverthornes)
Silverthornes
  • Pays most for (category): Premium equipment, diagnostics and weapon accessories. Silverthornes posts the highest sell prices for top‑tier equipment, scopes and diagnostic machines. Will pay more for your stuff, in general.
  • Cheapest to buy from (category): Rarely the cheapest. Silverthornes seldom appear as the lowest buyer; they act primarily as a premium seller rather than a discount source. Charges you more for their stuff, in general.
  • Overall: Premium. After scavenging or buying from elsewhere, sell high‑end equipment, scopes and diagnostics to Silverthornes for the best returns

The lists have so many good items, but we dont get to use most of it, currently.

You have NO IDEA how fast I traded for the .50 cal. Never got the chance to even use it.

I am surprised there’s no way to use money to trade for items. Especially with the biker gang and the Silverthorne, 2 factions that openly use money in the story

Good to know, cheers. Also, have you tried doing a self-insert playthrough? I did it for my first ever run and found it was way more engaging and immersive; I imagine it would be less so if you have meta-knowledge from previous playthroughs but it’s still something I recommend.

I think every character has their merits. Kelly is somewhat…unprepared for the apocalypse overall, but her potential in electronics, science and leadership skills is certainly viable for someone patient enough to teach her. And despite her naivety, can be highly personable and empathetic.

Jillian is far more niche I’ll grant, incredibly hard to trust considering how we meet her, and in conflict is a distraction at best, friendly fire incident at worst. It makes sense though, she’s navigated life almost purely on her looks and lies, two things not best suited to society’s collapse.

Imma assume in the future the will be a dedicated “diplomat” role in our group, someone to maintain and improve relationship with other groups once the collaborative is set up or just people on a trading basics, similiar to Co-leader/Cook/QuarterMaster/Radio operator role. Either that or it’s a assignment in the group that we need to send people to perform, similiar to Chores and Medical treatments. So people with good social skills like Jillian and Anders can start yapping

Question, I have not started Part 4 yet. Do you need to be allied with the Silverthorns to trade with them?

Has anyone hit a fail state where they completely run out of food or water, or where the group mutinies and banishes/kills you? I imagine the latter isn’t possible but I’m wildly curious to see how that plays out, as well as a run where you cull as much of the group as possible.

I dont believe we can trade with them yet, just the River Dogs and Southern Ute tribe so far?

Also if the raw data is boring/unhelpful I’ve added a bit on analysis by group on the above trade post

You can also trade with Red Mamba.

Nice, do you recall where/when this is this? I’ll add it to the trade post so people know timings (e.g. if you meet Red Mamba early, what should you buy from them to sell to Southern Ute or River Dogs, and what to wait to buy more cheaply, etc)

Sadly I don’t remember exactly, but I’m close to starting part 4, so once the trading happens there, I’ll let you know right away.

It’s fairly close to the end of 4 before being told that the attack is happening. To do it, you just gotta form an alliance with them when Drake comes to get his bike fixed and they’ll contact you to come visit and trade.

Found bit of a big one. When going through the science pavilion a lot of variable choices seem to go wild. I normally choose to just speed through it alone, but chose to bring Jillian this time.

Then when going through the physics lab, and the encounter happening out of nowhere Jude ((Who had previously been taken out by a Molotov)) appears and helps, as does EVERY possible person that you can take; so Bailey, Dante, Woody and Tommy ((Who isnt even alive at the time)).

You might want to check out this entire section in general, cause i remember in a different run Jillian popped up out of no where when going alone. So, I have a feeling there may be a few more tangles with the choices here. @JimD

Have I completley missed that kevin isnt trans anymore and when that update was made? All those years ago when part 3 came out and we went to the junkyard I swear he told my nurse mc leader he was trans and thats not triggering anymore. Actually disappointed if that’s the case and a little put off. Anyone know the reasoning behind that if its been changed to him being cis?

It’s safe to say that whatever the reason is, it comes from a good place - I remember back before and after Part 3 was released, the author was getting feedback from multiple people on how Kevin is actually represented in the game as trans. As for my speculation - the game is not released yet, so a) based on the feedback and the timeline, the author decided to focus on that topic later in the chapters or write it in retrospectively as he decided to focus on the main story b) decided to rewrite the character entirely - and that’s not a bad thing, there might be a myriad of reasons why writers choose to do so and Mr. Datillo always comes off as a receptive, good person who is very supportive of LGBTQ+ community. Personally, I would appreciate if the character had some depth and he opened up to you naturally, it makes sense he doesn’t trust your intentions the first day you meet him. Well, as much as I can appreciate Kevin in general - most of the time, he makes it very hard to think of him as more than zombie food. Let’s wait for the author’s feedback on the topic before forming an opinion. :slightly_smiling_face:

Question, I’m going through my first play through of this with the college student story, how do you get the romance with Bailey in part four?

You can make it or ask someone in the group to make it. But there’s not a way to find one yet. I do like the idea of stripping it off one of the vehicles that has one.

Thank you for all your suggestions.

Thanks, I will fix it.

If you invite him to go across the lake to meet the River Dogs, you can get into a confrontation with him.

Because it is actually pretty hard to code variable characters like Kelly, Parker, etc. I need to have some characters that are always part of the team or this game will take eight years instead of four for each part.

I would like to say that I will make Kevin kill-able because of all the feedback, but I’m trying hard to stick to my original plan. I get criticized a lot for feature creep and I’m trying to be a better writer

This is the more well worded answer to the question.

I have a huge patch coming next week that fixes this.

I will look into that.

Thank you. I’m going to work on this.

I think I overlooked adding some things.

In Part 5, you will be able to go back to Nightfall.

You are allowed to lie to people

I’m glad it’s all working!

I thought it was a lot of fun to create a system where you can buy from one group at a low price and sell higher at another trade partner. I’m glad someone figured this out.

Thank you. This should be fixed in the new patch next week.

Originally Kevin was trans but some of the early beta testers didn’t like the direction I took.

For example, I had an early scene where Eli (who has Alzheimer’s) used Kevin’s dead name. Some beta testers took huge offense to this. There were other points they didn’t like, and since this was maybe five or six years ago, I felt it wasn’t a good idea to continue with Kevin’s storyline. Some of those beta testers actually were arguing with each other, and I didn’t want to have people arguing about a character.
