Let us not delve too far into the role-playing discussion.
You can’t control me !
(plz don’t ban me i’m kiddin)
I rarely play anything I’d consider a full self-insert, probably because that’d be one boring game (although accountant grandma traipsing through the ZA with all the stealth of a bull in a china shop might be entertaining). I’d have a mighty small survivor group too. I’m not saying somethings don’t blend over, like my comfort level with guns and basic survival, but I try not to deliberately play myself personality wise.
Some games I’ve played two or three times and then I’m done. There’s been a couple I genuinely regretted buying even. Others, I keep coming up with new MCs to play with. ZE:SH has a delightful level of replay factor, which is why it’s probably in my top 5 CoG/HG games.
I do metagame on games I feel have a big replay factor, but only after I’ve played through at least a half dozen times RP style. Then sometimes it’s fun just to see what makes things tick, or go boom, or just have ‘holy cow that can happen’ moments.
It’s what I like about forum discussions and seeing how others play, because I get to have so much fun trying stuff outside my box when someone says, ‘oh I had this happen!’ I’m always like awesome, let me try that too.
I normally die not think what the char I play would do. I feel it. I died once in the Farm, cause I was too worried about the others, that I tried to sneak in. Never thought about the, lets say missing, sneak skill that char Had. It was one of my male chars, which often tend to be the shining knight type.
For games in general, combat is one easier things to plan on. I mean, if you even look at Dungeons and Dragons, the combat system came first (based on miniature rules for a game called Chainmail) with all the role-playing bits basically tacked on afterward.
As such, combat also tends to be something gamers as a whole are used to. Heck, I think most of us know how to exploit it on a subconscious level.
That is why when laying out the core of the farm mission, combat stuff actually was the easiest thing to think of, but incorporating more skills was tougher.
Hey can someone tell me who leather jack is? I’ve replayed many times and I can’t find any mention of him
He’s mentioned when you go to the lake after dealing with the horde.
Thank you!! I guess i just never go because im always more interested in Jamie Rachel & Woody, but i’ll make sure to go there during my next gameplay
Each option open lots of interesting dialogues and lore. Also, there are dynamic and your background qnd challenges change everything you can play dozens of times and find always a different experience
Here is a question for lore @JimD . In this universe did max brooks exist as a author and did he write a zombie survival guide or world war z?
Sincerely I hope not. I prefer games of zombies were zombies aren’t mainstream in that universe. In fact, I saw one funny doc that say about a zombie outbreak in our own society could be plainly difficult because we know-how deals with them. And kill them while their number is still manageable.
this is where you get a zombie that is much harder to kill that defies the rules
head & heart. No organ matters. Everyone is already infected. Smart zombies tool users & has capacity to know language. only hunger kills and they can go 3 or 4 years without food. They look almost human still.
The boy band Zombies…oh god.
Sincerely I would not want to play something like that. I don’t care about zombies. My interest in the genre is about humanity and new social dynamics. If the genre is about Stab creatures oh look how strong they are even if defying everything else… common sense and reality. That is the most possible boring thing ever to me. You could skip all dialogue and make a brainless shooter instead. Shooter is the most hatred genre for me I prefer go to dentist so no my type of lore
hmm interesting. how about zombies that can think and feel as if almost human conflicted with themselves but dont want to die, while still needing meat of some sort, thrown into a game like this, may be entire small tribes caravans communities of them . how would this alter a game like this for you.
anyway was a interesting thought adding a semi-uncommon dynamic but common enough.
No really I don’t care, zombies, if they are with the brain are just cannibals. And a game of cannibals in packs would not destroy civilization . As they could negotiate use weaponry they will subject humans to slavery but technology and common life will mostly remain just with normal human as cattle.
Interesting but that’s not a Apocalypse game is a dystopia zci fi
Thinking about it like that it makes me wonder, how do the characters know to call these creatures zombies?
What do you mean ? Do you mean how do they know that the creatures meet the criteria of a zombie and not an infected ?
Because zombies exists for centuries. And are part of several culture traditions. Maybe not the name. For instance In mine, there is a tradition that everyone that had never gone drink water from a sacred fountain that is in a temple here transforms into a bug or snake after death until going that fountain. We have several grades of undead from eating bellies of pregnant women to eat kids.
Zombies arent a Hollywood invention is ancient lore so logic zombie word exists
Not sure I get your logic here. The world of ZE pretty much sounds like our world (the references make that much clear: Justin Bieber exists in the ZE universe etc.), only differences that Jim added was a fictional city or town and a fictional infection which turns people into zombie like creatures. Don’t get why the characters living in this world should come up with any other name for people which look and behave very much like zombies are described/shown in books, movies etc?
I think what they’re asking is if, hypothetically, zombies as a concept didn’t exist in the ZE canon (like in TWD) how would the characters know what a zombie is?
The fact that they call them zombies kinda disproves the idea that they’re a new thing, imo, but it’s still a fun idea otherwise (I’m also not sure if Woody or anyone else made a reference to zombie media but w/e).
