Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven General Discussion (Part 3 beta coming in December)

What do you want is exactly what i don’t. SPAM CHOUCE AFTER CHOICE that makes game absolutely inconsequential . Weaken each choice to point nothing matters as WELL I WILL CHOICE AGAIN AND AGAIN DUE I COULD HAVE EVERYTHING . that is not how a game shouldn’t work in my opinion time tics and you have to choose. If time is static and you could have everything and everyone is safe and happy. Where is dramatism? Where is difficult moral choices? Where is the point? Maybe a linear mode when you can be in camp forever and day don’t move forward could be popular

Yeah, this is also the game where you can be a 17 year old who’s a demigod in combat, could be the savior of the world by doing the whole SURVnet and cure storyline, be hit on by every single chick in the camp and have flawless leadership skills and not once lead the group astray.

You need to realize that this is a game. And, like with all games, suspension of belief is needed. Just be happy that it’s at the very least for balance purposes.

@JimD I know what you could do to make Mara and my others characters love the Junkyard no matter what contaminated it could be

I HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE Imagine a entire horde of Yunkyard tiny cats. Nothing can make a place better

My order is almost the same as yours, except I tend to put some amount of food security and at least basic shelter before getting the med bay.
But I don’t think my teen or doctor will be leaders, as of now only my actor is. If I get around to doing military officer with Tommy then yeah that would be another leader character.

It is funny as I personally can’t see me or my characters being anything different to leader or second in command. It probably a reflection of my personality as I need being in front and doing stuff and taking an active role on stuff. That turns in role-playing as I don’t understand shyness and apathy. I need take part and charge to stuff . So my character not in control WANT the control and will kill for it. that makes game so dynamic the fact the power situations is a great addition

I think my possible new military officer will be the only one to actively seek out leadership roles, my actor just kinda fell into it.

There are already some choices in game that doesn’t take any time if you look closely…and you can actually send people on mission. They do the mission and you do other things in the meantime. Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t mean it’s wrong. There are more or less 50 different things to do in the first day of part 2. It’s not stupid if you can appoint 2 people do and lessen your burden. You are also talking about balance…then I have to point out that when you are having a deep conversation with someone it also takes only 15 minutes…so if you are actually comparing the game with the real world, then I must disagree with you… otherwise it’s some kind of misunderstanding and we are failing to show others our point.

It is pure balance to allow both sides of coin to coexisting with same code. @JimD can’t make two entire different modes for Role-players that wants a more realistic challenging experience with difficult moral choices scarcity of materials and personal drama and conflicts.

And people that wants metagaming being OP as hell and have a free time doing absolutely all with no effort and have all open.

So a balance has to be made for you game is unfair don’t let you do all perfect with all choices open. For me is too easy were there is no needed of buildings as There are millions of resources everywhere and no illnesses or any real danger.

I hope someday he has time to made Hard core mode for role-playing people and free mode for meta gamers. I will pay hell for The hardcore Diarrhoea mod if food is bad made

Hopefully not asking recently answered questions here, but does your college major ever come into play (apart from being mentioned) in any flavor text or gameplay? I imagine the computer science or biomedical sciences probably might-- Though I can’t test for myself with what little time I have to play-- but I’m wondering if the other, less apocalypse-practical choices like a History major might net you something fun.

I dont think so. and has very sense don’t so as you could be a custom class that choose background origin of College so no really sense to starting talking about a major Pizza girl . The volume of game code is insanely high to beginning with. And that but there could be any hidden mention with the college romance characters. As my college character won’t romance a college anything. There is a lot i don’t play as college I just pretty prefer Teen. You know what I WILL PLAY AND TELL YOU.

The game certainly does have a breadth to it, which I do appreciate. I also appreciate you taking the time to check it out for me. I sorta intended to play as a teen after but there’s just something a little weirder about having a teenage death machine, but I suppose it’s not (that far) out of the suspension of disbelief if I assume I’m just a natural with training, and Madison feels the most interesting to buddy up with thus far-- And I assume, with good reason, that you couldn’t as a college student anyway. I just liked justifying my cavalry sword prowess by saying my character was a history nut through and through; Would be nice to be a smart-ass pulling obscure historical references too, but that is, understandably, likely not worth the time to implement, aha.

I could tell you 100% don’t as I made a college student with no anything as major selected as I went to a date and i don’t select major at all. So it can’t be something in text if I haven’t.

There are a list of lots of majors is not realistic expected that However. I promise During next part beta testing talking with @JimD as I think a conversation with a romance interest about what we expected in college could be SPOT on at least with Tommy and Baley as they are college students too. So great suggestion.

And remember headcanon about why your characters do whatever are what makes Characters unique!!! So keep doing it even if is not in text

So…is there anyone who was able to kill 3 members of silverthrone without losing any members? If so…how?

I first kill Nat…no consequence
Then if I kill Wytt… Church is dead and can’t kill Benton.
If I kill Benton…Baily is dead and can’t kill Wytt.

Yeah. I kill Nat first then Benton and Rachel kills Wyatt

I did it also in testing but only with a Rambo cheat points super soldier. Do you have something similar? and what weaponry as is useful as matters a lot

I think you need super high stats in Ranged weapons and a really good gun.

You shoot Nat first, go up the lookout tower then snipe Wyatt and Benton from there.

The smug in my face when Keith had to chicken out after being roasted was super satisfactory

Ray. It will be required to have the “challenge” that enables Ray active to be able to appoint your pet second in command.

This is exactly the purpose of the design.

Being able to do everything you want within the time allocated would mean that all the choices you make are meaningless.

An example: I sacrifice fortifying my house’s defense, so I can do more exploration. If I can do both, what do I care if Zombies attack the house while I am gone… or what do I care if I do not visit the ranch house earlier… I’ll just visit later … with the time limits forcing me to choose which I do, the consequences mean more.

This is a balancing issue … the total time allowed was something that the beta groups argued over for months. Originally, the time limit was harsher and many people missed out helping Tommy… when this pointed out and confirmed through testing, it was adjusted by @JimD

Part Two was not as essential for time limits to be enforced, so they were relaxed more… there were other balancing devises deployed.

Perhaps your MC is taking a snap-nap to keep their energy up, or perhaps they are doing prep work for the cooking or clean-up … there are literally small details to every activity that are left out … both to prevent reading fatigue and to allow for differences in expectations, culture, etc.

Fortunately there is enough world-building and character building going on that most people stay engaged for the entire game.

Balancing is a necessary evil but with all the additional things (ie bonus points) Jim provides, most of what everyone wants to do can be accomplished normally.
