I have a question you all ! How do we put the name you type in a sentence ?
Hi @Suzuno_TheNekoGirl . I played your game. So far, it goes smoothly.
Imho, you should ask a native English speaker to proofread your text. It sounds way too āforeignā even to me.
To add the name in a sentence, you have to create a variable and use it with the $ command.
I recommend you to look at the different tutorials in this forum and take a look at the choicescript wiki here
I hope I have been helpful. Keep writing, your story will be awesome.
Thank you for the link ! I managed to understand how it worked !
Also, for the corrections, I donāt know anyone who can help me with it around me, so Iām trying to correct it by myself but I donāt find enough corrections by myself.
You have been helpful, thank you ! If you find anything, I will gratefully take it !
Also, everyone, for the available version on Dashingdon, I was at 262 lines, now I am at 289. I mean in coding, not in lines of text.
Would you like me to release it now or at 300 or 350 ?
Also I still didnāt find a solution for the save commandā¦
Release at 300 please.
I have a lot of things that are NOT stucking me in the fact to write, BUT in the fact to make it really a game, I have a few. Because for now, there is not a lot of things where you can see itās your own character in the game.
Stats
First of all, you know there is stats in my game. But the 2 choices already set in games, I mean the ones that are really text and not for a description of your character, have to help with the personnality of your character. But how ? I mean, I want to add or undo stat, by exemple if you choose to stay still instead of moving (Not in game) you will be more cautious ? Do you see what I mean ? I want to know how do I put more or less stats (numbers) in the game ?
Save
Yes, I still need help with that. I donāt find anything that I understand and that I can actually use to put a save system in game. I mean, itās still better to keep your character details done and to come back at some REAL choices, right ?
Scenes
Do I have to put a lot of scenes, or do I write everything in the same scene ? I mean, do I use different scenes for different chapter ?
@Suzuno_TheNekoGirl found this: Uncaught Error: SaveMod: Unable to *sm_save before *sm_init
This seems interesting ill wait till thereās more.
I have it too, but I donāt get it, thatās why I asked for help in my previous message ^^
And thanks ! Iām slow but Iām doing my best !
@Suzuno_TheNekoGirl a interesting start though short my interest is piqued keep it up and look forward to seeing what comes next.
Thank you so much ! I hope you will keep following my game ^^
I improved the stats screens today, of course there is not a lot of things that changed since last time, because Iām trying to change the stats with some choicesā¦ But it doesnāt work so if anyone have an idea, Iām all ears !
Update a little time later, I add also a little of what follow the story, not a lot but still !
Have you ever tried code-diving? A good way to learn how to implement stats and variables is to look at actual examples you can draw insight from. Anything else, you can ask around on the threads for coding assistance. Thereās a whole topic tag dedicated to the subject.
What is code-diving ? I have to say Iām kind of trying everything by myself with what I find on the wiki x)
Sorry for the delayed response!
Though some authors donāt like their readers to do it, if thereās a recent WIP youāve read that makes pretty good use of stats, all you have to do to take a peek at the code structure is modify the url/web address by adding /scenes
at the tail end, then tapping go on your browser.
You can look at how they formulate the āadded stat pointsā per choice, or even skipping on a stat change with the *fake_choice
coding option. Thereās also the stat check, which measures if you have enough, or too little to succeed in a challenge presented based on which stat the reader chooses to test.
Thereās a lot to learn, but feel free to poke around in more than one WIP to see how multiple people do things, then decide from there.
Oh, donāt worry ! Take all your time to answer ^^
By the way I updated my game again, I will need people to test the stats before writing more !
Could you explain what do you mean by that please ?
(Iām French soā¦I donāt understand everything !)
I used google, so hereās hoping it is coherent since I donāt really read any other language than English.
lāadresse Web telle quāelle est doit avoir /scenes
ajoutĆ©es Ć la fin pour accĆ©der au code du jeu des WIP sur dashingdon.
Hi, Iām french too so maybe I can help.
En fait tu peux regarder sur dāautres wip comment les stats ont Ć©tĆ© implĆ©mentĆ©es en ajoutant /scenes Ć la fin de lāurl.
Oh dāaccord merci beaucoup !
Hello there !
SO yes ! I wish for you to answer that poll please ! It will need me to work on it too so I rather ask now before I forgot x)
Also, I need other explanation for stats- I mean, all the choices you have now are done, the commands are done too ! BUT it doesnāt apply any changes in the stats when I test it, any idea ?
update 09/09/2022 : I will let this poll until the 15/09/2022, so donāt hesitate to vote ! for now, itās the beginning option who win at 54% against 45% for the meeting option ! Also, I am at 7 characters made ! If you want more, tell me !
update 10/09/2022 : I manage to make the stats working ! The poll is like yesterday ! Itās the beginning option who win at 54% against 45% for the meeting option !
update 11/09/2022 : I didnāt worked on things since yesterday, but now the meeting option is at 52% and the beginning option at 47% ! I upgraded the first post of my topic too !

update 13/09/2022 : The beginning option win at 57% against 42% for the meeting option !
update 14/09/2022 : The beginning option win at 58% against 41% for the meeting option !

Personally I think setting your ro preference before we meet the first one. It feels more natural instead of being thrown on us on the spot
