Yep… and the thing is, I quite like to read about adventurous and mysterious lives, but I don’t necessarily want to live one so my criteria for what I’d like to live in and what I like to read are very very different
I suppose the average height would be shorter in a lot of the historical settings (not that that would help with celiac’s )
I feel like I’d have the best shot at a good life in Grand Academy for Villains.
Way Walkers, everyone has magic plus a good chance for immortality.
Vampire House, vampires.
Choice of a vampire.
Lost Heir/Life of a Wizard.
I feel like I’d have a good chance of dying in most other but if I had to choose another: Unnatural.
I believe we’d also share a common problem, glasses. So, yeah, most of the worlds here aren’t really made for guys like real-life me.
That’s why “Lord Flash” character tops my list, android designed to be perfect and in the “Lord” Flash version all the nice clothes and boots I could ever wish for most likely.
Like I said, Evertree Inn would be the next one and almost equal with it, but both of those presume I could swap with my mc.
Also Keeper of the Sun and Moon would rank quite a bit higher if everything wasn’t constantly conspiring to kill my mc, poor kid.
Otherwise I agree with you and more modern universes would be safer. I suppose that, like I said Psy High seems to be the safe choice, assuming I could swap my Dutch education for an American one I suppose I could make do as the small town lawyer. Which would be a tiny upgrade cause I’ve always wanted to be a small town lawyer, but various court re-organizations and cutbacks plus the hard split between lawyers and notaries public we have over here conspire to make that a non-starter in this country.
But you have your own world you’re building, so would you actually like to live in that universe, either as yourself or one of the characters?
Oh… yeah, I am pretty nearsighted.
Plus obviously any setting with even more homophobia than the real world would be a no go for both of us but fortunately these are less common in choicescript stuff
Oh yeah, that could be quite nice
Psy High also not that I would necessarily prefer it over my actual life, but that would work.
If I could just switch at will between whichever of these universes I wanted to, however, I most certainly would be doing that a lot
Given that Laghuna is about to be engulfed in massive war and devastation, and the main factions are an elitist oppressive republic and a potentially mercurcial monarch, I’m going to say a very big no
Though I have been working on a less ambitious choicescript thing to help get acclimated to writing interactive fiction… that’s more of a “real world plus supernatural and psychic stuff” setting, so once plot stuff is resolved, I wouldn’t mind living there
This is probably a bad idea, but Choice of the Deathless. Just because skeletons are cool and R’ok is a sweetheart and I want to be his friend and go to his art exhibit :,)
And also shapeshifting is possibly a thing in that world which would be cool and also make gender dysphoria easier at least
Midsummer Night’s Choice. Dear god, A Midsummer Night’s Choice. Shakespearean conventions abound.
Having said that, I have just had a go at Broadway: 1849, and it also appeals to the theatre fanatic in me…
Hmmm… Oh man oh man, part of me just wants to list off all my favorite ones and say I wanna live there but at the same time I know that I’d be the person who dies in the prologue in… most if not all of them.
So I would say Deathless, Study in Steampunk, and Heart of the House as my top choices of worlds I would love to live in but… I probably wouldn’t ‘live’ in them for very long. Unless we’re talkin’ the fact that you actually take the role of the MC in that situation- I mean, hopefully I’d have a bit more skill to survive considering most of them in those games already have some background knowledge of how to… not die immediately.
A more self-preserving part of me wants to say Runt of the Litter, but if I’m being honest that’s really just because I would definitely love caring for and raising a griffin.
As for WiPs… Hmmm…
Again, I’d probably die horribly in all of them but The Myrmidon, Son of Satan: Mortal Coil, or The Wayhaven Chronicles would probably be my top choices… if I could somehow survive. Which is… unlikely, sadly.
Same! :D Those are the three games where, not only do I love the worlds best, I also love my PCs’ roles best.
For just the worlds, discounting PC’s role, probably Metahuman, and maybe Star Captain or Kendrickstone (I do like my mentor a lot in that one).
I also think Shadow Horror would be a very interesting existence; I’d have a wild career ahead as a paranormal investigator after an experience like that, I think…
Could we just assume, as you say though, that we have protagonist immunity and that our ‘plot’ ends at a suitably old age in a suitably non-distressing manner?
Also I’d love to be in the Metahuman universe and help invent something that let one just flick between the ChoiceScript story-worlds, like switching websites. Every so often someone would write a new game and then a new world would suddenly be accessible, and no-one would have any idea why…(What happens if you get caught in a glitch, though? Hmm.)
Eh, depending on where you end up in the Craft Cycle’s world (Deathless’s setting), it can either be a struggle for survival or a fairly good shot at being a star-powered immortal lich. Assuming your student loans don’t literally drain the life from you.
Since I didn’t answer for the WIPs: from what little I’ve seen, I’d love to live in Cornucopia City from Curious Cuisine. The setting of Aeon Sage, pre- and post-rework, is also a world I feel like living in. If I could ensure I’m able to be clued in to the magical world, Keeper of the Sun and Moon and Children of the Gods are both fairly good, if dangerous, choices.
That’s why I asked if we could just take over our mc’s, body skills, memories (in addition to our own, the works).
I mean living in the world of the Myrmidon is probably only survivable, not to mention enjoyable if we get to play the part of our android’s designed to be cute and perfect. Same for most other worlds as you’d need the mc’s skills, memories of how the world works and probably their bodies to stand a chance at a happy life in most of them.
“If you go down to the woods today…”
(I’ve now got “Exit pursued by a bear” in my head to the tune of the “Picnic time for teddy bears” part of the song, and I’m finding it far too amusing.)
