"Werewolf: The Apocalypse — The Book of Hungry Names"—Unleash Rage and wield spirit to heal the land and rebuild your fallen pack

With all dlc purchased is there a specific auspice and clan combo that offers the most gifts and/or interactivity? If not, should I go theurge or philodox silver fang?

Your limit on Gifts is probably going to be more related to your stats and how much spirit currency you can accrue than to anything related to your asupice+clan.

In my last playthrough as a Silver Fang Ahroun with high Composure, I think I had like 7 gifts.

It’s likely there will be more Gifts theoretically available to your wolf than they can realistically accumulate. And while Gifts aren’t necessarily evenly distributed in numerical terms across all tribes and auspices, the idea of a single objectively superior character build is antithetical to the way CoG does things. There’s a lot of auspice-specific, tribe-specific, and Gift-specific content, which can be anything from unique options during critical scenes to subtleties of flavoring text you probably won’t consciously notice; it would be nearly impossible to deduce a simple “best” or “most” from all that complexity, even setting aside the critical factor of your individual play style.

Theurge and philodox are probably my favorite auspices to play, and you’ll have a great experience either way, with no shortage of Gifts.

Thanks for the info, both of you. I’m definitely gonna be silver claw, now I’m just trying to decide between theurge and philodox lol

If this is your first time playing the game, or just your first time playing one of those two auspices, I’d go with theurge, just because it’s a little more straightforward what it’s all about and what your tribe needs you for. But if you plan to play in a way that draws regularly on your Rage, philodox might be a slightly better choice.

Personally, a lot of my playthroughs tend to be ahroun and ragabash because i really enjoy the added difficulty of managing rage and i think those two have the most interesting avenues of gifts, general story interactions and role play. In terms of most, i think theurge has the most available gifts but i wouldn’t call that necessarily better. In truth, once you have like 3 or 4 gifts, you’ll already have a pretty well developed stat sheet so you’re good to go. my favorite are madam mouse, owl, mother bear, and crow and squirrel is probably the most consistently useful.

Alright, I’ve decided on being a philodox silver claw since some of the theurge gifts I found interesting require you to be anti-litany and thus against your clan. That and from what I can gather, a philodox has more of a predisposition to leadership than a theurge which, to me, fits better for the “alpha” tribe.

I saw your earlier comment about being new to Werewolf the Apocalyps. If you’d still like some backstorÿ on the Garou and their history, here’s a video.

I’m not sure quite what this means. “Clan” isn’t usually a term used by or about werewolves. Do you mean “tribe”? Each tribe has a slightly different approach to the Litany, and individuals within each tribe can hold somewhat different interpretations. It is possible to become a Silver Fang with low Litany as long as you have high Dignity.

I don’t know that it’s fair to say that a philodox has more of a predisposition to lead than a theurge - they represent authority in different realms of experience. And although most tribes may seem more naturally aligned with some auspices than others, there are individuals of every auspice within every tribe. As far as hierarchy within the actual pack goes, it’s often a matter of seniority more than anything else. The two characters in this game with the best claim to be the leader of the pack most of the way through the game are a philodox and a theurge, not because they have the most overbearingly dominant personalities or any leadership experience to speak of, but because they’re in their mid-twenties while most of the rest of the pack are a few years younger.

I’ll give it a watch, thanks!

I did mean to say tribe. I’ve got way more experience with the vampire side of WoD so my brain just defaults to their lingo lol.

That is actually really good to know, thank you. I was under the impression tribe members must embody both of their respective traits, not one OR the other.

I recently learned this and it definitely makes sense, though I’d argue a philodox fits better within a leadership role due to their tendency towards impartiality and knowledge of laws.

Could someone tell me what the convictions and gifts of the ghost council and galestalkers are? I’m following a steam guide for the tribes but these two aren’t listed.

Galestalkers: high Dignity and/or Survive

Ghost Council: low Litany, high Spirituality

Thank you!

For what it’s worth, I found the game easy to understand without knowing anything from the source material. I probably missed some references, but that didn’t hinder my playing or enjoyment, and at no point was I confused.

The Red Talons DLC hasn’t come out yet right?

Not yet, no.

Red Talon and Silent Strider DLC just dropped today.

I don’t know why there hasn’t been more fanfare around it, but yes, it came out a few hours ago.

I’m so excited to see what people think. This is a huge DLC, worthy of a huge game. If you haven’t played The Book of Hungry Names in a while, you just might find yourself falling in love with it all over again.

The best thing about this DLC by far is the new sidequest - basically a whole new chapter, although it’s not numbered as such, and you can play it almost any time in the latter half of the game. There’s a mystery to piece together, and some intriguing new characters - and although it’s entirely optional, it does tie back into the main story in a way that fills out your character’s understanding of their world. The new material in this side-chapter alone is heftier than some actual games.

Looking at a few places my guess would be WOD burn out/no marketing

Maybe it will pick up over next couple of days
