"Werewolf: The Apocalypse — The Book of Hungry Names"—Unleash Rage and wield spirit to heal the land and rebuild your fallen pack

I’m playing through the game and peeking at the code on the side, and it seems that romance is not only governed by the character relationship, but also by some other factors. I’m spoilering this in case people don’t want a code explanation.

First of all, charisma gives you bonuses to the checks in romancing everyone… except Nin, who wants composure instead. Guess that’s for being a lupus.

Each character also has a conviction that they favor. Elton wants dignity, Podge wants Rage, Sin wants Spirituality, Melodie wants Litany. Having high enough conviction in one trait would give you bonus, while having the wrong conviction gives you penalty instead.

Finally, the thresholds for them are also different. Nin and Podge are the lowest, followed by Melodie, and Elton is the highest. A pretty neat way to showcase how easy it’s to get close to the character, in my opinion.

As for actually romancing someone… I think I read the author commenting on another post that it’s sneaky, it’s planned to add more spots, but currently the main place is in chapter 5, during your third adventure when you spend a night with a garou of your choice.

I remember seeing in the save manager that one of the values says “has estate” but I haven’t encountered any options that involves a new house yet. Have anyone else encountered any new housing options so far in-game or is it possibly not implemented yet?

It’s possible for you and Podge to move in with Nin.

How? By getting fired early or being broke most of the time or something similar to that extent?

I think I’m about to finish the game tomorrow with how far I am in my current playthrough. I will say this one thing about it. My expectations was somewhat fractured because when I first heard about this game, I thought we would’ve started encountering vampires from the masquerade side often along with a bunch of humans enemies like in the Haven werewolves game. But instead, all or most of the problems was about the Banes which are basically evil spirits and a cult of fanatical werewolves that wasn’t even that big a threat as compared to the Banes and this whole Answering Tiger stuff has been confusing me sometimes and also irritating me since a lot of the problems were spirits related.

I was expecting something like meeting a bunch of other werewolf packs and possibly even starting my own, getting involved in a small war or skirmish against other werewolves, vampires and humans, picking out new housing options, more than 5 ROs at least considering the franchise this is based off of, more equipment and maybe some more customization options than nationality and fur colors (but I expected this part since it’s a CoG game) and more.

All in all, I like the game so far. It’s just my expectations was somewhat different than what I expected when I first heard about it.

Killing the Goultiers when they start trashing your place

That was an option!? I just picked the option to use Owl’s sight to investigate what was wrong instead since the whole situation felt too sudden.

Well the problem with incorporating Vampires into this is that canonically, vampires aren’t even close to a level a Garou is. Plus that is generally what Garou do in WTA, fighting banes and evil corporations that kill the planet
EDIT: the only exception being elder vampires, which are currently being beckoned away to the middle east. And the Garou Nation is currently going under, so a lot of the tribes and other Fera are taking MASSIVE losses.

Really? I felt the vampire were pretty strong in this franchise, especially considering the amount of powers and the variety of it they have access to. I mean, we got vampires that can transform into a giant snake, control shadows to physically attack you and blanket the area, mentally attack other people, controls animals, etc.

Believe me, there’s reasons why Kindred don’t go into Werewolf country, especially since the vast majority of them are neonates and MAYBE ancilla. But yes, Garou generally have the upper hand when in comes to Vampires.
EDIT: Yes, but those abilities are also some Gifts Garou may learn. In the TTRPG you can mentally command people, essentially gain telekinesis, even command other animals as well. Most of the gifts in this game were stripped down to make things more manageable I’m guessing.

Finally. I’ve been getting tired of all these vampires in most franchises having a huge edge against werewolves since they keep making them very OP either by age, powers, skillsets or all of the above. Especially in Animes.

Honestly, i think killing the Goultier’s is well worth it. Not only do we get to move into a mansion with our wolf girlfriend, but getting to disembowel Drax after he sawed my bike in two was extremely satisfying.

lol he tried to shoot me with a shotgun in my playthrough and Nin killed him

I killed Drax before that event happened when I went with Nin to retrace Scarper’s path. (He outlived his usefulness when he told us everything we needed to know) Though there was a bug when that scene happened where it mentioned Drax also being there throwing out our stuffs and when I killed Drax beforehand, it treated as Nin having done the deed.

Oh ya, I mean in WOD universe, Garou and other Fera are hulking monstrosities that Regen health EVERY round, so even disemboweling them is mostly a flesh wound to them, unless there’s silver (though a few gifts get around the silver bane) or fire (which for obvious reasons Vampires aren’t going to use)

It’s also crazy how nothing short of total annihilation is the only sure way to usually kill a Garou. Does that mean even decapitation wouldn’t work unless it was silver?

I’m not entirely sure, I would have to check the W5 handbook to give an accurate answer, but even decapitation is a VERY difficult maneuver to pull off (even against kindred)

I made him kill himself by bleeding out after blowing his own leg off

Even though I tried to make my MC a Assassin werewolf with black fur and joined the Shadow Lords. I don’t think I was able to stick to their preferred method of dealing with situations (even when I wanted to and tried to) since I ended up investigating and collecting info a lot and I kept scouting areas beforehand since I wanted to know everything before I start something if possible. It was to the point where I felt more suited for the Ghost Council and the Silent Striders if they were available beforehand.

They ended up as a all-rounder which was definitely something I didn’t want to go for since there’s so many options for solving problems.
