At this rate I might just have to wait for a guide because getting Podge to like you feels like rocket science.
I think though things are represented by dots, they’re actually measured on a numerical scale. Like, say, 0-100, so you only get one dot per 20 approval points. I think Nin gives you a lot of points for stopping the fire and being truthful about it to her.
Like Bento said, the character’s approval go up by percentages and the most they can get from a single choice is 10%.
Also, speaking as a long time player of Werewolf: The Apocalypse, it’s really weird to see players trying to bone their packmates.
Perfect Metis might just come about one of these days…
This being my first contact with W:tA, I’m actually curious: I hear that in previous editions, Garou-on-Garou action was the hugest no-no because the pairing of two Garous actually resulted in a murderous abomination of violent omnimurder, but that that’s been changed in this newest edition? How does that work regarding the First Change and stuff like that? Like, do you get a Garou right off the bat, instead of a totally normal human or wolf that later undergoes the Change?
Honestly, I seriously think something is wrong with how Podge gains approval. This is a huge game, after all, written by one man. Theres bound to be some coding errors. For me, I had full Humans Must Understand 'round the clock, yet never really raised Podge’s approval over 3. Usually 2. I think at this point, someone should take a look at the code that governs his approval gain/loss.
In the earlier editions, the mating of two Garou produced a Metis. Metis were born in the Crinos form (which often killed the mother), had at least one deformity and were sterile. Thus, they were seen as a punishment from Gaia for the mating of two werewolves.
However, Metis were not inherently more violent than any other Garou and were playable as a third breed.
In W5, I suspect they were afraid of being accused of ableism and decided to cut the Metis. The W5 corebook has not gone into detail as to what now happens if two werewolves have a child. Presumably, you get a normal baby/pup who may or may not be a future werewolf.
That is my understanding, yes.
As a fellow Podgesimp, I’ve found that the best way to Podge’s heart is by matching key points of personality (pro-humananity and pro-survival) as well as match some of his key stat choices (high computer, high intelligence, etc.)
In general, one of the reasons I like BoN is that is absolutely allows you to have unique playthroughs, but also requires you to really commit to a character build and their values. It keeps the feeling very tabletop, which I appreciate considering the material.
Idk if more of this option shows up often cause the only time I remember using it was in the demo in the fight against David. But it would be nice if whenever you go Hispo form, you always get a option to go either Dire Wolf or Titan Werewolf. Which now made me think, if you can combine the Hispo with the Lupus to make a Dire Wolf, can’t you do the same thing with the Crinos and the Lupus forms? What would that be called? A Warwolf maybe? Would be nice in case some players mostly prefer regular wolf forms instead of the werewolf variant or want to switch it up sometimes.
Hispo is ALREADY the dire wolf. It seems to me that you can think of the Forms by starting with their natural forms (homid and lupus) at the opposite ends of a line, and then moving towards the centre passing by the 1-rage Forms (glabro and hispos) until you hit the 2-rage middle that is crispos.
This is how I imagine the forms to look like.
Glabro
Crinos
Hispo (Titan Wolf)
Hispo (Dire Wolf)
And this is how I imagine two Dire Wolf fighting each other to look like.
Fight
Hispo isn’t two different forms, it’s just one, and it’s basically a huge-ass, horse-sized wolf. “Dire Wolf” and “Titan Wolf” are just two names for the same thing.
There are many images online for WoD werewolf forms, but here are the official images from W5, which you should definitely buy if you’re interested in digging into the lore and mechanics behind BoHN.
And if I could get my hands on one without paying through the nose for shipping, I’d love to, but things are what they are.
These are some good images.
You can buy it as a pdf here, fyi: PDF Werewolf: The Apocalypse 5th Edition Core Rulebook
I hate reading in pdf. Xp I think I’ll check in with a gaming store and see if they can order me a physical copy and for how much.
I got PDF copies of the Vampire and Hunter core books (plus a bunch of other WoD stuff) super cheap as part of a Humble Bundle charity fundraiser. I have my fingers crossed that they’ll do Werewolf this year.
