I know this might be a shot in the dark but i was SUPER excited to hear about another WOD game coming out. I played Swansong (the premium edition), Werewolf:Earthblood and all the Vtm interactive visual novels on ps4, plus all the current interactive novels of vtm on Choice of games. I really love the WOD fictional universe and i plan to get Werewolf:Heart of the forest and Vtm: Bloodlines as soon as I can. When I saw someone was making a werewolf game I rushed over to be a beta tester (and to see the demo) but got here a few days too late and the thread was closed. If it opens up, which ill be watching for, I’d love to be selected to be a tester and help out. Im only truly available consistently on sundays but if thats ok id love to aid in whatever way i can as a reader.
Also, the moment the demo is able to run on my laptop ill be back to give my thoughts on it. (its just blank on my laptop as of posting this so i assume its some bug or something that’ll be eventually handled).
Super excited and cant wait!!!
Will be there any other games like these like yeah I get it vampires and werewolves you’re very common but I would like a game where we get to play as Corax or magician from the world of darkness sitting
Idk if they’re in the demo or not since I don’t have access to the beta but I hope there are more monsters and other types of beasts we can fight against. Like what David turned into. He was basically a monster in a different way but was still big enough to where he felt like a threat to werewolves. The only other types of monsters I can think of that we might or will fight against are Spirits and Vampires. I want to see more creatures we can fight against like Wendigos, Bigfoot, Demons, Giant feline monsters, Werebears, etc. It just seems like the main enemies are the Banes and maybe Vampires.
There is an interesting and amusing scene in Podge’s chapter. If one chooses to infiltrate via the sewers, the pack has a discussion about Cainites. Their comments reveal how… inaccurate some of their assumptions and conclusions are.
Podge mentions Cainites using the sewers to avoid sunlight. Well, the truth is that Cainites cannot awaken from the slumber until the sun sets, not unless they are in great danger. Even then, the Cainite requires great will to rouse themselves even temporarily.
Well, one wonders if any Nosferatu were occupying those particular sewers. Even if they were, they would have remained hidden but watching as they always do, especially since it is usually a very bad idea for a Cainite to engage a Garou in combat.
For that matter, Elton thinks that Cainites being harmed by the sun is a myth, stating that he has seen Cainites walk in the day before. Well, he is partially mistaken. Only the weakest of the scions of Caine, the Thin-Bloods of 14th Generation and higher, bear the potential to walk unburnt in the sun, the curse of Caine being as diluted in their vitae as it is.
Of course, my Night Road courier and other Cainites would not be in a hurry to correct these mistaken conclusions and assumptions.
Is anyone having a problem with the number of passes and fails at the end of Podge’s chapter? I’m getting 11 passes and 1 fail, I looked at the text of each one of the checks and everyone was a pass, but I still get that 1 fail and I don’t know where from.
This demo is incredible, it makes even W5 extremely immersive and fun. You couldn’t ask for a better “teenaged ecoterrorist with anger issues” roleplaying experience.
My only request would be to give the player more opportunities to spend or acquire Rage outside of the main missions- otherwise playing an ahroun or ragabash will feel rather punishing. Maybe picking fights/sparring with your packmates- trading relationship points for Rage gain/loss- could work to this end?
Podge probably only hear a grapevine about nosferatu using sewers as their ways traveling, wonder if the pack would ran into a gangrel considering that they travel as wolves rather than using transportation.
This was something I noticed. When I played a ragabash, I was constantly losing the wolf unless I went out of my way to be as violent as possible. When I played an ahroun, I was constantly frenzying unless I went out of my way to play them as passive as possible. It ended up feeling kinda bad that avoiding those things meant playing counter to my character idea.
Like, I’m not playing an ahroun because I want to back down from everything, but there were a good handful of times where my choices were “back down” or “frenzy”. The end result was that I just sorta frenzy-murdered my way through the story in an unsatisfying way.
My first playthrough on the Demo was as a Black wolf that wanted to be a Shadow Lord and was a Ragabash and I only lost the wolf once in that whole playthrough. (It was on the mission to recruit Melodie as my last packmate and I lost it when those humans in the truck insulted us and I didn’t retaliate since there were more important things to do at the time) Mostly cause I was solving problems with my own skills instead of the wolf sometimes. Of course I still wanted to use the wolf abilities too but I didn’t want to lose my rage completely. And I guess I kind of messed up since instead of making my MC more Shadow Lord material, they became more suited for Glass Walkers and Children of Gaia. Of course I didn’t join any of them but I guess the decisions to be friendly towards humans and solving most problems using knowledge and tech backfired on me.
How much of an influence does your aspect have? I haven’t played too much but do aspects influence gifts? I’m trying to pick between theurge and ragabash but if the differences are minor (ie I can still be a mystical werewolf via gifts and rites etc) as a ragabash I might prefer that one. Also wrt the theurges it seems to imply that they can be a bit loopy, is that reflected in dialogue? Always liked that about malkavians.
The auspice you choose does indeed affect which Gifts are available to you. It also influences your starting stats and is reflected in flavor text and dialogue (although no, being a theurge doesn’t make you particularly loopy).
You could definitely play as a ragabash and cultivate a spiritual persona through your skills and choices, but the theurge-exclusive gifts would be off limits.
