Velocity: The Race Begins—Will speed make you a legend?

By chance has anyone made a walkthrough that can help me and I am sure there others that want to romance Britney. I have tried many times and can not seem to do it no matter how I try. If someone knows how can you please message me or whatnot. Thank you very much.

I think you can’t romance her. It’s just that she invites you to her place after you save her. She doesn’t appear in the next chapters.

After many many time, thanks to someone saying that you have to stay and not run off with Shawn after Britney is shot did I manage to get on the Britney path. Yes I ran straight to the roof as was stated to achieve this but you have to do one other thing, when you go back down from the roof to be with Britney and Shawn you have to search the football not field not leave, once you do that you see someone then you have the choice to run off with Shawn to chase down the ex dude Butch I believe is the name, you have to choose to stay and let Shawn run off, it is then the cops all come and you are made to leave. Later on after you then get the chance to go to Multicorp and the whole Britney even takes over. Yes, Britney i still a bitch and all but after that “encounter” you can visit her again and later on if you are on her route she will acknowledge you are her guy, she actually will declare you her boyfriend, she does this later when your mom is taken and you call people if you choose to search for her yourself rather then call the police. Anyways, hope this helps some to others having trouble getting on the Britney route.

You mean Jason right?

Cause Shawn supposed to be in hiding at that point of the story… Unless I’m missing something.

Nah, I think that might be just base stuff that Britney does normally.

Okay, several things before I begin, first I want to give some credit to someone whom I will be and have patterned my whimsical and oh so not serious rating system and the man, the legend my Jedi master behind the rating system is Jeremy Jahns a fun going Youtube movie reviewer. See his system does not use that stale 1-10 number system or the more serious 1-5 star rating, or god forbid the serious Cesar method of a thumbs up r down. Nope Jeremy Jahns came up with a fun one where if he loved the movie or game it was Awsometacular, if he hated it it was Dog shit., yeah I know sorry folks, harsh yeah but that is the world we live in. Lets be fair, sorry to a the person or people whom found their way to said bottom but hey, kudos for even trying and putting it out there, still, it does not take away that the material was bad. That leaves in between, there is 4 ratings in between and in some sense they are subjective to personal preferences, but in this system behind Awsometacular is (I’d Buy It n Blue Ray) but where I will change it up being this a game and not a movie I will just Say I’d Buy It, next is A great Time..If You’re drunk, next is T-Minus .. 10 minutes (yup forgotten) and as you all recall, lastly being a steaming pile of dog shit.

Okay that rating system all said and done, explained and yep, this is all my personal view and should be taken with a grain of salt. Please note that even if I don’t like a game remember that this is not a personal assault but rather just my opinion on this particular game but rather I hold the author in high regard because regardless they achieved something most of us will not and took the plunge and showed immense courage to even try.

Okay, this is my first review ever, I am no writer, I am nothing really at all but a person like most anyone else on here that enjoys playing these choice games. This game I am about to review just so happens to be the most recent game I have played and has that chance to be my first review, I have played now most every game in this sites collective be it CoG, HG and HC. Yeah well over a hundred games thus far I have played, so without further adieu, lets get on with it shall we?

Velocity: The Race Begins - This game starts you off where you are just being born, a few games have started things off like that, some meh do it okay, this one I think pulls it off well, it gives you a kind of playful way of building your character from name of course, ethnicity and a unique way of deciding how you choose your gender buy whom you choose to pick as the person right off as a baby chose to grab at. Fun right? Anyways, you go through some minor events that help decide a few stats early on like a choice on how you played with a toy car, this will dictate a stat on things with how you handle driving skills and such, another event you are playing soccer with your big brother and dad, you get hammered b said ball hehe, and how you handle it sets a stat such as if you are tough and such or just cry your little eyes out, it is a great moment heh. But this game does pull this off well in setting up your character for his later years, One other event that will happen, this event is very spoiler-ish, it dictates how you will handle yourself, here a student gives you trouble, you can choose how you deal with it, one very specific thing and the path I chose was deck the little bastard, it will result in your immediate expulsion, no get out of jail free, you do not pass go and nope no 200 bucks, just you pack up and momma ships you off out of Philadelphia where you was born and raised only no rich aunt or uncle in Beverly hills our ass is going to Compton, or Compton-ish. That will set us into the time period we will play in. Now this game here I love how it sets how you will have your characters style of dress, it has you go shopping on deal old mom’s dime and it gives you a whole lot of choices in how you want to dress from varsity jackets to leather ones and some real impressive old school 90’s expensive stuff. Even the choice of pants and such. It also allows you to make a personally choice be it a watch, shades or a chain, then the hair style. Mind you all the style and such is 90’s based but I rather loved the nice freshness to it all. After this impromptu shopping stop it takes you into a truck shipping you and mom off with your stuff to your nice new ghetto. The choices here made once you see your new hood will set a stat too, I do love how all these character building choices are fun but in most all aspects do play a big role in shaping the said stats your character will be, thankfully there is a save system so you can save and such so that you don’t have to reset until you find that right stat set up you are pleased with.

Once you get settled in you will be off to school with mom and a friend, on your arrival you go through several scenes where you will meet some main cast mates, pay attention and choose wisely because yes unlike many games your choices will mater a lot not only with how they set your stats but also they lay heavily in how your friendship will develop, some choices can effect any and all romances too so be thoughtful there as well.

Early on through unfolding events you will encounter things like cool cars, attitudes some needing checked, and yeah races. Now races, I will say are fun, but, save early because you need to pay attention because how you do things like shift, clutch, break, drift and the order you do said things matter a lot because how you do so makes the difference in being first place of third and even last. I love how this game does this because you need to pay attention and there is no faking it until you make it, even down to when and how you use nos, yes, later on you will be able to mod your car with nos to win races. This neat addition will mean the difference in winning a race and losing it, so save early, saves are your friend in this game. You will lose and by saving you get to think hard and play until you figure out how to win then by saving often you then can win. This game you will have to play ad think a lot, if you want a game that you don’t even have to try then this game is not for you because you will have to work at it and that I love.

I love also how you acquire a car to race with, you have choices, you could choose to become indebted to shady underworld people to get one, you even can choose to raid a cop impound lot and get one. That later I did because I did not want to owe anyone anything, keep in mind, this whole aspect is great for replay-ability purposes bemuse by who you choose to get to help acquire a car will also help in setting up a gang or affiliate you may want to choose to be with. This also keep in mind can effect your relationship standings with certain people because some gangs some relationships won’t like you affiliating with, others will. Me, I chose to be that independent rebel hence why I raided the impound lot and stole my ride heh.

Bare in mind, you can not play this game by playing from point A to Z and over, many choices will mea some of the game you will never experience such as an event in how you handle things with your mom, if you choose to value being number 1 in racing over family then an event will happen and it will effect the game, so keep that in mind because it leaves much replay-ability for this game.

I will say and the writer will even say this game does hold a lot of resemblance to fast and the furious, oh in so many good ways but it does leave out the so so unrealistic aspects where you get that fast, furious moments without the eye rolling Hollywood bullshit.

Okay, if you are like me and love romance, this game does allow for some, if that is what you are looking for well maybe this game is not completely for you, this game is not about straight romance, oh it does have some, some of them are easy to achieve I am looking at you Amaya and Jason. Some okay yeah hard as hell and a wrong move and you will never achieve it, those that has played will know who I mean, that said though, I LOVE that aspect, so many games all romances are easy to get and there is no working at it, this, there is 2 choices that are so so hard to get and make you work at it. If that is what you like then this game is for you.

Okay, now comes my overall view of this game. I will say that this was the writers first game he ever did and for that alone hats off man. Sure, there are moments that I am sure with age and experience will make for the writing to become more polished. That said, you do not notice much the newness to his writing skills, it is well thought out and established in all. The choice agency in this game in my opinion is excellent, many games you play it seems your choice agency is meaningless but not here, it feels like most every choice matters throughout the game and that in retrospect they all matter in how they develop who you want your character to be. The racing system is riveting to me in how if you misjudge just one shift or drift and shift wrong in matters in if you win or lose period. There is no bluffing it, either do it right or try again. That said, once you pay attention and get it down you become a racing legend indeed.

Okay, that leaves me one thing, I mentioned romance, I liked how they did it for most aspects, that said, I do wish there was a bit more, you did get to do a few things but the choices are simple, a movie or out to eat, and rinse and repeat with all characters. Yeah a few events might be a little different like one with Amaya and that is you go to the Hospital to see her dad, it is touching but I would like if for example Britney, she is a spoiled rich brat, as such I would have liked if you could have showed off a bit and be able to use some of that money you make and maybe take her out to an expensive restaurant in like a limo. Just something special just to her. Over all though it was okay.

On to the over all rating, I will give this a I’d Buy It - at full price!! I went into this game not know fully what to think, I was not let down at all, if anything I was left very impressed, for a first time writer I think that he did wonderfully well and I can’t wait to play Velocity 2: Burn it down or whatever the sequel will be named lol. Hell, I look forward to see whatever the writer does next.

That said, Give it a read folks I don’t think you’ll regret it.

Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review. I genuinely wasn’t expecting something this in-depth!

First off, I’m really glad you enjoyed the game. One of my biggest goals with Velocity was to make players feel like their decisions had real consequences, so hearing that you noticed and appreciated that means a lot.

I also appreciate the constructive feedback regarding the romances. Initially, it wasn’t part of my plans to include romance in the game, but after much convincing, I added it almost midway through development. As you can see, it sometimes feels bare-bones.

And thank you for the kind words about my writing. This was my first interactive fiction project after Hunter Sky, so I knew there would be things to improve, but I gave it everything I had over the 3 years I spent developing it. Reviews like yours motivate me to keep learning and make the sequel even better.

I’m honored that you’d recommend the game, and that you’re looking forward to the sequel honestly means a lot. Thanks again for taking the time to play Velocity and write such a thoughtful review. I really appreciate it!

You’re more then welcome Matt. I am just glad that my honest and well earned personal point of view in your game mattered even if only with you. The way I see it is this, the game is left in such a great place for a well deserved sequel. Sure, the romance aspects in the game thus far might be a bit sparse but that just means that it is in the perfect spot to let it shine well in the next one.

See, it kind of makes sense because time wise there is not a whole lot of it that has past and what amount of time that has the MC got to know the crew and thus he wished to well enough so that in a sequel game it would realistically make sense for a romance to then progress along with the plot line of finding that Smokey bastard with your brother and your crew to make them pay. The sequel has a very bright future indeed.
