I must agree with most assesments here. The beginning is very promising. The pacing is good and I really apprechiate the authors humor.
The end though… I litteraly am failing every stats check at the end(I guess I am just not choosing the right things). I am at my 5th or 6th playthrough and it is a little frustrating to be honest. I guess I should try a brute next (not me prefered gamstyle but I really want to have an end where I am not bloodbound and have no agency…)
are you playing on the app or your device? try restarting the game/App. It should help.
On my laptop. Though, yes, restarting the game fixed the problem.
Just wanted to chime in and say that yeah, like the others, I felt this one started in a really positive way and I was SO excited I bought the game the moment it dropped. But about… yeah, I’d say the same, 60% of the way in, the plot just starts to feel disjointed and super rushed.
It almost feels like it’s missing filler/relationship/“quest” chapters in the middle, if that makes sense? Stuff that isn’t necessarily critical to the ending but usually helps flesh out characters and bring the universe to life a little bit more.
I thought either Night Road or PoK did a really good job of that (I can’t remember which off the top of my head). You could go to the club, meet people, choose to go visit people you knew, etc. This iteration had some of that, too, but it felt much more shallow.
I feel honestly the problems with pacing in the second half and the issues with not forming strong enough connections with the characters could actually be fixed by just adding some content like that here and there. Maybe a few more quests. But that’s just my .02.
Is there a way to make Sophia Prince without dying?
Yes, there are several.
As a Ventrue?
And how?
As a Ventrue, you would have to convince her that your support can help her get what she wants without killing you. I haven’t managed it myself, but I’m pretty sure it can be done.
I really like the writing in this (as usual with this author), but I just seem to be hitting fail-state after fail-state, and often not really understanding why. I think the mechanics on this one really need looking over and refining. I was enjoying this so much to begin with, but I just found myself rage-quitting, and I don’t think I’ll be back for a while.
One or two things that may need fixing (or not)! I placed them in spoilers as they reveal elements of the plot.
I romanced Persa. Gor is alive, thus I avoided having anything to do with Peisistratos’s court since I didn’t kill Gor. So, after dealing with Selene, I get to choose the ending where I start a fresh life together with Persa. However, it seems your romance is not exactly reflected in the ending. Perhaps it’s supposed to be this way, but it’s a bit jolting not having your romance with her be properly acknowledged.
I don’t know if it matters but I played a Ventrue and a female vampire.
And on that count, if you are a Ventrue, Sophia is your sire. However, the gender of your sire doesn’t seem to be properly reflected in this same ending. It refers to your sire as a “He” even if you play as a Ventrue. It’s a minor detail though. The above romance reflection is more important.
Next,
Is there no way to have an ending with your original lover? I tried several options, but didn’t seem to have a result. I nearly thought when the game description says that you can embrace someone and have your own childe, I thought you can do that to your own lover.
I get that it’s likely meant to be one-off scene. But it seems a tad unfair that you can have an ending with Alex but not with your lover (Both of them are from your pre-vampire mortal past).
No, there’s no way.
Oh wow, thank you for this!
I was about to try again to see if I could make this happen!
I’ll agree with others and say the beginning was good, but then it felt very rushed. Most stats felt worthless to me – I got to Belgrade without using my tech skill one time. Honestly, I ended up quitting after failing another fight; it seems like the only real stats that matter are combat.
Definitely the worst VtM game IMO, and one of the very few CoG games I purchased that I can’t even be bothered to finish (couldn’t finish Rent-a-Vice either). I really liked the art, though.
Frankly, it feels kinda mediocre. I enjoy VtM books but this one? The latter parts feels rushed and sometimes the plots just seems “unfinished” and ends up unresolved.
Can you send this stuff to me in an email, so I can forward it to the author? As well as any other details you noticed.
Has anyone found out who our sire is
There are five possible sires you can have: Kapriel, Markos, Peisistratos, Sophia, and someone who remains unknown.
As unfortunate as it is, I think Night Road set a very high standard when it began the VtM CoGs and so far aside from Parliament of Knives, nothing else has come up to halfway of its level of immersion.
Sins of the Sires doesn’t seem to know what aspect to focus the narrative on and it shows in the unresolved endings, lack of in-depth npc interaction for us to feel attached to anyone, no visible relationship or visible faction stat to keep track of. At this point, even a Masquerade breach stat would’ve been helpful for our undead lives. There’s some promise there when the plot points began to converge, but because of the lack of scenes and the rushed pacing, the choices neither had fulfilling rewards nor regrettable consequences.
I feel like Sins of the Sire is a book with half of its pages torn out. It shows promise at the beginning and then after a few clicks we’re thrown right at the end without understanding what’s really happening. Still, it’s better to have +1 VtM game than none, but oh well.
I agree with everyone, the game starts off really great and pulls you right in, but then everything feels rushed and relationships feel like they don’t matter or get mentioned. the writing is really great though, it kept me interested and never bored. It’s a shame i really wanted to love this game but i just like it. I think people are right when they say Night Road and parliament of knives set the a very high standard that we compare this game to so it falls short.
Oof, was really looking forward to this one, especially considering who the author is, but it looks like it just didn’t have nearly enough time in the oven.
Pass.
