Yeah this, the winner gets to choose who it is it doesn’t have to be who is the winning artwork.
purely out of curiosity: could the winner choose the main character? or is it only the NPCs who are options?
NPCs only the MC can die but the game ends then and there whereas NPCs die and the game goes on.
