So now that I’m done giggling at my computer screen, ahem…
WARNING: I sort of try to review? I guess?
Really good so far, I like that we got to see more day to day town stuff, very nice touch.
Tina and Verda are still awesome, and Doug is…awkwardly cute. (But seriously Doug, not straight. Not going to work, sorry buddy.)
Reuniting with the vamps was only as awkward as it should have been. (Nat’s how’s my hair nearly had me on the floor.) (Also super cute how Ava has semi-reluctantly warmed up to us…still my favorite. <3 )
I like that some supernaturals are just as freaked out by humans as humans would be by them, it’s sad but…is very interesting. The way the carnival was introduced was amazing, seriously stunning writing there.
EDIT: Oh, also like that we can have physical scars along with the emotional once after our encounter with Murphy…Feel slightly bad for liking that but still.
What has this series done to me? This has to be the only series I check updates for on tumblr and after finding out the demo for book two was being posted it’s the first thing I checked for when I woke up this morning.
I just wanted to suggest that if you can, can you add some special equipment for the MC, because it does not feel immersive when the MC is part of a special unit that deals with the supernatural, but has no way of protecting him/her self from them. I have a few ideas about things you can add to the game that would make sense and work well with the stats of the game. If you are interested in adding extra options into your game that affect what and how the character can interact with the supernatural let me know. (Like adding special gadgets and weaponry)
Demo is really good. I’ll have other comments later (and found a bug where in the character choice setup one set of choices cases combat not to be greyed out for the second skill if you used it as the first, but will have to run through again to find it). I sped through every RO, after an initial careful run, just to see where it all goes.
A few random thoughts thus far:
I love F. I can’t stress how much I love F after the demo. Felix is very close to edging Adam out as my second choice, because he’s fun, caring, and nice without being overly sweet. And out of all of them, F seems to want the detective around the most.
The LT… I said I wouldn’t play it, but wanted to test it since it’s the demo. It is… painful. But, honestly, A seems more into the detective in the LT than in an A-only romance. It’s like N’s interest puts A’s feet to the fire. Some dark part of me loves it.
The demo made me realize what a waste of time it is to befriend M in the first book, romanced or not, since you’re barely teammates despite any friendship points. Makes sense, given the fact that M won’t warm up at all until the detective has been around a long time, I suppose, but it makes trying to be their friend utterly pointless, since it changes nothing. Guess I need to replay all my saves for game 1 and throw my friendship elsewhere!
On the same note, I do like it that M is the only one who shows no regrets/concerns about Murphy (other than a look inside the warehouse) and the only one who doesn’t bring it up. It fits M’s persona of not giving a crap about the MC past getting in their pants (I love that he said it right out, lol). Can’t wait to become Fbuddies with him… don’t think FwB fits since you aren’t friends, though.
I love that, if you befriended A, you get to be respected teammates. That’s pretty awesome.
Agreed. I saw a couple of other places where adding another choice would be appreciated (for those who have detectives who don’t freak out over anything, are basically fearless, but aren’t starry-eyed/excited either).
Best scene thus far: M and F battling over laundry. That was hilarious.
So far I’ve been content just lurking on Tumblr but this demo got me way too excited, haha! I played all the routes (though that definitely doesn’t mean I won’t be playing them again at least twenty more times) and Felix was so sweet?? I mean, I loved him in Book One but in this demo he completely stole my - and my detective’s - heart, lol. And I think I just now realised exactly how slow burn Mason’s romance will be for my other detective; it’ll be so worth it when he falls in love with her, though, hehe

I think that’s a bit pre-emptive, don’t you think?

Be sure to leave that feedback. She might find it useful.
I’m getting hyped! Good luck with the sequel, @Seraphinite! One thing I noticed that you may want to look out for:
My gaze passes over my own apartment, everything in its proper place. The only out of place items are my remnants of what I used to make breakfast peeking through the doorway as it sits on the countertop in the kitchen which adjoins the living room.
The second sentence left me breathless–and not in a good way! I think it would serve your writing well if you read it all out loud. Great for placing commas!
I do love the fact that the game gives you the option to choose a good friend in the group as well as a love interest. Jamie and Farah are totally gonna annoy everyone with their wild paper airplane schemes…
You probably never saw it because you play the game the way it’s meant to be played but if you don’t romance anyone in book one there’s a fourth wall breaking plea from the author that it’s supposed to be a romance and that cracked me up.
Excuse me 5’4" is average height I will not stand for this slander
Also I didn’t like the pacing of the nightmare, I’m not quite sure why but it didn’t draw me in the way the rest of the demo does, maybe use shorter words to make it seem more fast paced?
