The Sword of Rhivenia (Remake) (DEMO UPDATED 02/12)

And the day has come! After much thought, I’ve realized I’m not fully satisfied with the result. The ending felt rushed, and some scenes didn’t turn out right. So, I’ve decided to rewrite the story. Book 1 will now include parts of Book 2, combining both storylines.

Features

  • Customize your character’s personality and appearance.
  • Play as a prince or princess and work your way to the throne.
  • Romance one of the ten ROs, enjoy casual hookups, or engage in poly relationships with certain characters.
  • Build friendships and shape your relationship with your family.
  • Lead your kingdom into battle.

What’s new?

  • All scenes rewritten, with new scenes added.
  • Two new romance options (now a total of 10 ROs!)
  • New characters and storyline.
  • More locations.
  • More fantasy elements.

Romance Options

  1. Daemir - The Stoic Lord. The tallest of the twins, Daemir stands out with his tall, muscular frame. His long, white hair is often tied behind his head. His sky-blue eyes are often emotionless and cold.

  2. Xavier - The Prisoner. His chocolate-brown eyes gleam with warmth. His short, curly brown hair adds a touch of charm, with a single rebellious curl that always rests on his forehead.

  3. Tameran - The Pirate Captain. He has an intimidating presence, marked by his tall physique and tattoos that snake around his neck. His slightly curly brown hair frames a face where rebelliousness sparkles in his light green eyes.

  4. Nicholas - The Rebellious Prince. He has mischevious dark blue eyes and wavy blond hair, parted into two curtains that frame his forehead. Tall with a slightly muscular build, his physique hints at a few duels fought, though fighting was never truly his focus.

  5. Jarean - The Mysterious Servant. With his curly red hair and tall presence, he is a charming young man. One of his eyes is a deep, dark blue, while the other bears a white pupil, a lasting mark from an injury that left him blind in that eye. The scars across his face add a layer of mystery, each one telling a part of his untold story.

  6. Maevra - The King’s Guard. She has dark, curly brown hair and deep brown eyes that radiate confidence. Her tall, muscular build marks her as a intimidating soldier, and a scar over her bottom lip stands as a testament to her rigorous training.

  7. Clara - The Adviser’s Granddaughter. She has a youthful face framed by medium-length blond hair. Her light blue eyes radiate kindness and respect, and a small mole rests delicately above her lip.

  8. Astryn - The Enemy. She has red-kissed hair, deep brown eyes, and long, dark waves cascading down her back. Despite her slim build, she’s a fierce fighter, favoring speed over brute strength.

  9. Lena - The Hateful Queen. Her long, straight dark brown hair perfectly matches the cold, merciless glint in her eyes. Though shorter than her brother, her presence is undeniably dominating, and her slim build hints that she has never touched a sword.

  10. Revna - The Lord’s Twin. Though shorter and slimmer than her twin, Revna still commands an imposing presence. She keeps her white hair cut just above the shoulders for ease in battle. Mischief glimmers in her sky-blue eyes, a sharp contrast to her brother’s icy gaze.

Book 1 will be longer than the previous version and will end with a battle and a (determinant) marriage.

If you’ve played the old version, I recommend forgetting everything and playing the demo with a fresh perspective for a better experience. I’m mostly active on Tumblr, so feel free to connect with me there!

Please let me know if you encounter any bugs, grammar mistakes, or typos. I’ve tested it, but there might be something I’ve missed.

I hope you enjoy the new version of the game!

Glad to see you’re alright! Hope everything is well.

A question: for those of us who already own the game, will the rewrite be applied to the game or will it be a different product?

Hi! I’m not entirely sure, but I think it will be up to HG to decide. Most likely, it will just be updated.

I see that the skills have been cut down to just fighting, is there a reason why? I know you said play with a fresh perspective but I was just curious :joy:

Welcome back! I’m glad to see you’re ok. I loved the original version, but I’m sure the new version will be just as good. As long as my beloved characters are still here, I’m sure it’ll be fun

How many chapters will the new remake book 1 have?

I’m glad to see this return but I’m a bit worried about what sort of precedent this can set with Hosted Games and their demos on Patreon.

I’m not naming names and I’m certainly not trying to say that Ayan is one of these people as I think they are a very sweet person, but there’s already a precedent for demos on Patreon to remain on Patreon for years with the slightest edits and claiming that progress is still being made on their stories despite never progressing past three or four chapters, and I worry that this move will encourage this strategy of grifting (I actually think that there needs to be a broader discussion about Patreon and its role in interactive fiction WIPs but that’s not something relevant to this demo here).

I’ve also never been a fan of stories being altered after publication and not being able to preserve its former state. I totally understand the desire to go back and rework past art, but as game preservation becomes a more important conversation to have I worry about the preservation of interactive fiction games; especially if we now are entertaining the idea of heavily modifying published games from two years ago at the time of this demo posting.

I’m glad you’re back! The little changes are interesting so far. I can’t wait to see what else you have in store!

I love the moments with Freya, especially after lying about saving the thief. Truly the sibling I’m most attached to <3

Edit: actually the more I read the more I like the changes. It feels more… juicy? Complete? Idk how to put it

Also… since more ROs were added, can you drop the current poly options available? :eyes:

Even though I won the duel it still says Richard won.

Yeah I’m curious about that too.

Just finished the demon which was really good it really dose help build the story and background a lot the first couple of chapters and the complete new chapters are really cool as well
So far the only errors I have seen are small being only names being wrong like the Richard situation in chapter 4 even tho I won it did have one section where is said Richard one
I would show the examples (thru pictures)but I don’t know how to do that
