I’ve played through to the point where he meets the scrappy, imprisioned mage.
In spite of the story seeming pretty linear, I like it, and it is pulling me along. I like the use of greyed-out choices in the dream sequences to indicate half-remembered things from waking life – clever.
I’d rate it as one of the more promising WIPs.
For what it is worth your proof-reading seems better than many published hosted games.
If there’s one thing that bothers me, it’s that your fantasy world lacks any kind of individuality. There’s obviously magic, gladiators and emperors, but everybody talks and acts exactly like modern western people. It doesn’t really feel like a different world, or different culture.
EDIT:
Another downside: After my browser lost my place, i’m not really feeling inspired to start over, and go through all that prologue/dream part again, since it doesn’t look like i can change much.
I just finished playing this and I am enjoying the heck out of the characters mostly Evan and dude Jess since they are jokers like Joker from Mass Effect which work well with my more serious but sometimes funny Mc. I also like the overall setting and such I would like to see what the first couple of moths and year of the MC as a gladiator was like.
I cannot wait for the next update and will be following this WIP like a hawk starving for its prey
Hello! We have an update! Yes, I am very surprised by that as well.
@eleazzaar Thanks for the feedback! Setting is definitely something I’ll have to work on. I have trouble integrating exposition without making it too clunky, so I usually just avoid it altogether, haha. Not to spoil anything, but there’ll be some parts later on where you get to see more of the societal workings and things.
Also, if you don’t feel like rereading a bunch, I’ve added an option to skip ahead!
With regards to the dialect and whatnot, I’m trying to err on the side of making it easily understandable and not so archaic that it gets jarring? YMMV, of course. I can keep making stylistic tweaks later, if necessary.
I’m getting the error “Cannot read property ‘crc’ of undefined” after choosing “Make a final choice.” in the first section of the dream/memory/whatever sequence.
EDIT: crowretrieval line 309: Non-existent variable ‘perceptive’
At first I was looking for a semi-okay game to end the night on but you’ve raised my expectations. This is up there with Heroes Rise & Community College Hero (my two favorite CoG games) and I cannot wait to play more! Shut up and take my money.
