The Price of Freedom - Vigilante superheroes vs government enforcers

Would love it if the you could change the romanceable NPC’s gender

Can’t wait to see the demo sounds amazing

Choice of Principles (or Loyalties or Causes).

The Price Of Freedom

Liberty or Order

Something invoking Which Side Are You On and pro-labor songs like that would be good, but no names are coming to mind. Just that the Council sounds like the ultimate expression of what they sing against - rule of the upper class capitalists at its most despotic and most corrupted.

I suppose if you want to portray the Council as a (morally) legitimate choice that gets more complicated, but if this is “the Council vs. the freedom fighters”, the title needs to make it clear that the Council is, at best, in need of major reform from a moral standpoint (whether the PC cares to make a moral point is on them, of course).

I like “The Price of Freedom” a lot, because that kind of go either way. I was initially just going to call the game “Vigilante”, but since I’ve decided to make playing an Enforcer a viable choice, that doesn’t really work.

I think Watchlist would be a cool name (Because if the media is watching the PC and what choices they make…)
Also, will Telekinesis (and therefore) Levitation PLEASE be an option? I was really excited when you suggested it and got really sad when it was shot down by Plant Manip and Absorption!

I’m giving all the powers that the PC would have had to NPC’s, so you may very well be able to absorb them at some point. Watchlist is fantastic, thank you!

Yeah, I agree. I’ve been hesitant with this because more work!!! But I like being able to have full range of romantic options to pick from without having to worry about gender.

All things being equal, who would y’all most like to romance?

Impact
C4
Labyrinth
Diamondback
Tesseract
SFX
Zippo
Nereus
Huitzil
Ragdoll (Cloth control would make nakedtimes so much more fun)
Phantom
Photon
Anther
Cronus

So I’ll just be posting bios of people for a little while, so y’all can see those. I probably won’t be writing the romance sections for a while, so If you guys would like to see other characters as romanceables, let me know. The only ones you definitely won’t be able to romance are Black Tie and White Collar because they’re a thing.

Awww, come on, can’t we get a little polyamory in here?

I kid, but I get it.

Awesome idea here, especially with the whole Civil War thing between heroes. One thing to point out is that Diamondback is already taken as a name, she’s one of Cap’s old flames in the comics. Looking forward to the demo though.

EDIT: Same with Ragdowl and Photon now I see it.

I know that a few of these names have been used in the past, but I’m confident that the characters and their powers are different enough not to cause trouble. I’ll start looking for some alternative names, though.

Yeah I think you should be fine for some of them, I mean I know that Marvel and DC alike have reused names before (eg. Captain Marvel) so it’s not like all of them are copywrited. It’s probably very hard to have an original code name for heroes these days. Anyway your concept sounds awesome so I look forwards to the demo. I think the main thing is to make the government types not be outright bad guys, they can rationale their motives. And consider having the vigilantes do things which are just as controversial - one only has to look to a character like the Punisher to imagine what a dangerous aggressive anti-government type could be if he goes bad.

How about the saga of the hero? Or the journey of a hero?

I think I like ‘The Price of Freedom’ as mentioned above, it reminds me of one of my favourite lines from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

“The price of freedom is always high, but it’s a price I’m willing to make.”

That’s the plan. If you scroll up through the thread, you’ll see a lot of conversation about this, but the main thing is that the game will never guilt you for your choices or your reasons behind them. You do the right things for utterly selfish reasons or vice verse and you’ll still be vindicated.

Good to hear, I did see you’re giving the player the chance to explain why they’re with a certain group, including being former villains (like Thunderbolts, awesome) or that they might even agree with the other side somewhat. I mean in Civil War I was on the Pro Reg side - rookie heroes do need training and it makes sense to have their betters provide it and help out, even if it does mean sacrificing some liberties in the process. That saying how the Pro Regs went about stuff wasn’t all that great. But I’m sure your game will reflect stuff like that.

Post #35 discusses all the base motives currently in play. You will also have the option to play a double agent.

Sounds kind of like Marvel Civil War; not sure if anyone’s mentioned that. It would be a good idea to finish it as that movie comes out, and maybe ride the wave? EDIT: Yeah, people have mentioned it, eheh, I’m soo original. Also I love the names VFX and SFX!

Yeah, Chrome won’t let you run script from an ‘untrusted source,’ but you could definitely write and edit it on Chromebook, then compile it into a Dropbox, and test it on a phone or something?

I do like the idea of being able to go undercover with the other team, especially what that could mean for the romance options if you have to decide between your love and the mission.
