Shadow manipulation, teleportation, I must pray for absorption, Umbasa.
Also what about romance?
I’m definitely planning on including romance. There will be four or five options, likely four of variable gender based on the player’s preference. If I can, I’d like to include a fifth, nonbinary option, but that, as with everything else, depends on how much time I have. There will be two romance options for with the Vigilantes and Enforcers each, all of which will be available regardless of your affiliation. Dating an enemy will be extremely difficult, however, and is likely to end in tragedy.
Would y’all like to read short bios of some of the NPC’s described above? I do have those, if you’re interested.
I can’t speak for everyone here, but I wouldn’t mind a short bio. There are a few on the list the peak my interest, such as VFX and SFX. Are they siblings or just a random coincidence that their names are soooo close? OH and please tell me Cronus and Photon are on opposite side, that would be the best fight EVER!
Yea I would like to see sime.
Black Tie- Shadow Manipulation
White Collar- Light Manipulation
Twins
Im also interested in the romancable Npc bios
Would definitely like to see the bios may give me some idea of what side I’m on. Also if you include someone who could control paper I would love you forever Bosoncat lulz
You might also want to consider transmutation the power to turn your body or things you touch into any substance you would have to be touching the material to transmutate your body though
Hey there everybody! It’s been criminally long since I’ve posted here, and I wanted to let you know that this project (If y’all have ideas for a name, I’d be glad to hear them) is still going, though it’s on the back burner until I’m through with college apps. If all goes to according to plan, that should be around Thanksgiving, but there’s a very real possibility I won’t be done until January. Either way, I’ll try to have a demo for y’all over winter break (that’s the latter half of December for me), and some text samples before then. Here’s where things stand right now, plot wise:
- Supers are required to register their powers with government at the age of twenty-one
- The PC will be somewhere in the realm of eighteen to twenty- under the age of registration, but still in most senses an adult.
- The Oligarchy has been in power for five years, not ten.
- The PC will be able to choose one of three economic backgrounds:
-
Rich: The word took on totally new meaning after the Oligarchy’s rise.
Your wealth means you are close to the upper echelons of the government;
you probably feel some personal loyalty to the Oligarchy, but you
also have a front row seat to the worst of their corruption (though
you may lack the perspective to recognize it). -
Middle Class: Last of a dying kind. Your lifestyle is comfortable,
but not opulent, and it’s getting harder and harder to maintain as the
prices for even the most basic necessities continue to skyrocket
as inflation runs rampant.
-
Rich: The word took on totally new meaning after the Oligarchy’s rise.
- Poor: Just as the Oligarchy’s rise made the rich richer, the poor are poorer than ever. Most poor families have to take out loans at exorbitant interest rates just to pay for food. Many children do not receive education after elementary school, instead learning a trade or becoming the henchman of a “legitimized” villain- not that either position actually pays enough to pay off the mountains of debt they will inevitably inherit from their parents.
- Rather than being presented with a choice of several powers, the PC will have the ability to copy the powers of other supers for a limited time.
- While the origin of superpowers in this universe is unknown, the going theory is that they are hereditary in someway or another. Evidence for this theory lies primarily in powered families; one’s powers will be similar to those of their parents and siblings (VFX & SFX). Identical twins have exactly the same powers (Peace & Bad Trip). There’s evidence against, this, however- adopted children will often display powers with a level of similarity to those of their adoptive parents & siblings consistent with that seen in blood relations. Soulmates or very close friends will also have powers that are connected in some way, though in these cases, their powers are usually complimentary opposites (Black Tie & White Collar).
- The PC can be male, female, or agender (using they/them/their), and can be gay, straight, bi/pan (functionally the same in the context of the game), or asexual.
- Asexual PC’s will still have the option of pursuing romantic relationships
- There will be four romance options, one male and one female with the vigilantes and enforcers respectively. Here’s some short bios:
- Impact: Already a well-known hero before the Oligarchy’s rise, Impact’s inhumane methods have always drawn significant criticism. Described by many as “brutally efficient,” this high-ranking Enforcer uses his position to stop criminals by whatever means necessary. Whether or not they live long enough to see a trial is, in his mind, a triviality. Off duty, Impact is gruff and slightly misanthropic, but a good and caring, if slightly overprotective, friend to those who put up with his jerkassery.
- VFX: Born to a poor family, she escaped poverty alongside her brother, SFX, by becoming one of the Oligarchy’s best Enforcers. She has serious qualms about many of the Oligarchy’s actions, but is ultimately willing to get her hands dirty to keep her hard-won financial stability. Like her brother, VFX is bright and personable, but there’s a hard edge beneath her effervescence; she’s survived this long by being a predator, and that part of her personality isn’t going anywhere.
- Zippo: Regarded by many as a hero of the Middle Class, Zippo fights to protect the comfortable lifestyle his grandparents, penniless immigrants from Eastern Europe, worked hard to build and that his parents work even harder to maintain under the increasing pressure of new legislation. Kind, understanding, and full of boy-next-door charm, Zippo is someone anyone would be happy to call their friend and one of the Vigilantes’ best spokesperson. The pressure of that position weighs heavily on him- few things inspire doubt like a big audience.
- Diamondback: Fast talking, gun toting, and 100% certified badass, Diamondback is famous for toppling several supercrime syndicates single-handedly. One the Vigilantes’ most effective agents, she gets the job done, no matter what. Her sights are now set on “legitimized” villains with large numbers of followers. Fighting mobsters has put her face-to-face with some of the worst of humanity, and this has taken a serious toll on her; she’s slow to trust and quick to lash out, preferring to fly solo in whenever possible. The few to whom she affords her trust will find in her a reliable confidant and fiercely loyal friend.
- Cross-faction romance will be possible, but it’ll be very risky and liable to end badly for all involved.
- I’m considering making the gender of romanceable NPC’s variable, based either on PC orientation or player choice. What do y’all think?
Those are the only real developments for now. I wish I had more to show y’all, and hopefully I will soon. As always, comments, criticisms, and suggestions are more than welcome.
Thanks!
Limited time? Wouldn’t It be useless to go solo then since enemies have more experience?
Sounds good so far. Can’t wait for a demo. Will it be impossible for a cross-faction romance to end well?
@Shawnheatherly It won’t be impossible, but it will be extremely difficult. You’ll probably have to either convince them to switch sides or switch sides yourself, though I’m still figuring out how that plotline would progress. In either of those case, the option to play a double agent will definitely add an interesting wrinkle to cross-faction romance.
@Dark_Stalker Could you rephrase the question? I’m a little confused as to what you’re referring to. If you mean Diamondback, her abilities and MO lend themselves more to flying solo.
Playing as a double agent sounds really fun.
I think she or he is saying want it be hard for the MC to go solo or fight some one if we can only use their power for a short time or we want be able to use the power as well since they have more experiene with it.
I’m so excited for this! Especially since you allow an ace character that still has romantic inclinations!
@Bosoncat I meant our copy power.
If it comes for a limited time then wouldn’t it be useless to be alone as the enemies hmave more experience with their powers or fighting non powereds would be useless too? Just as @vampierkid222 said.
Ah. That makes more sense.
@Dark_Stalker I’m still trying to come ups with the exact parameters of the MC’s powers. One major consideration is changing “Absorb an unlimited number of powers for a limited time” to “Absorb a limited number of powers for an unlimited time.” In the first one, you can absorb any number of powers you like, provided their original user is around for you to copy from, and toggle at will between them for a limited time. In the second one, you can only absorb two or three powers at a time, but can keep them as long as you like.
Edit: The more I think about it, the more your point makes sense, so here’s the deal:
- The PC can copy and store up to three powers at a time
- The PC may keep powers stored as long as they like.
- The PC may use any stored power whenever they like, but only one at a time.
- If the PC has three powers stored and wishes to copy a fourth one, they must swap out one of the three they currently have for it.
- The PC’s proficiency with copied powers is roughly equivalent to that of the person the ability was copied from.
This affords the PC enough adaptability to be a gamechanger in the conflict without making them ridiculously overpowered or overly limited in their capabilities.
The MC is starting to sound like Peter from heroes though he could only absorb one power at a time, and yes I watched those seasons
Can’t wait to play the demo it sounds awesome
I’m serious though, does anyone have any suggestions for a name?
I’m just gonna spit ball a few ideas here then

And maybe I can think of more later
