I hope I’m not digging into spoiler territory, but can we confront this? Not that the MC is necessarily inclined to being sensitive about something like this (one of my MCs is a sweetie who actually enjoys their newfound humanity but the other is impatiently waiting for the day they get to shed their mortal casket), but if Jonny’s a freak then wth is the MC. Although, it did seem like there was some subtle nuance to Fiama’s opinion and treatment of Jonny in the way she stops just short of badmouthing him to the MC but can’t seem to restrain her disdain from showing. Tho I might be overanalyzing lol
but yeah, as a fellow freak, I would love to confront that shit and would love to read that interaction
It’s a cool concept, but I’ll probably leave it up to the players’ imagination, since some seem to align with Fiama’s point of view (It’s been 10 years, he really should move on/Jonny is rather odd) and others seem to empathize with Jonny (He was different and people treated him like trash for it). I’ll keep it in mind and see if I can work it in, but for now it’s headcanon territory.
Yeah, this is actually what turns me off on Fiama as in I’m not keen on building relationship with her. She was rude to Jonny based on the idea she’s got in highschool. And that was also shaped by her brother.
If Jonny is a freak for her, what would she think of MC and Roach.
Yeah @pimenita, I certainly don’t mean can this be a subplot or a huge point of contention or even a drawn out interaction but I agree with @lynossa that it’s turned me off on Fiama as a character. It’s a little frustrating because I really want to like Fiama more (her personality, her work ethic, single, adoring mom to an adorable child fuckin queen) but it’s hard for me as a reader to like someone who’s holding a grudge against someone who was bullied by their family member as a kid/teen, even someone as rude and bitter as Jonny. Esp since he’s kinda harmless, just caustic and weird. I think if the two characters were only ever going to interact in passing like before Chapter 3, this wouldn’t have even crossed my mind but after reading them in a scene together it made me feel a type of way about it
that being said tho, Fiama and Jonny’s relationship or lack thereof is definitely not the main focus of this story, so I trust your judgment and look forward to whatever we get
The way I read it, it seemed like Jonny was more at fault for the animosity between him and Fiama. Remember Jonny and Fiama’s brother were a grade or two above her. Some guy bullies you so you’re going to be a jerk to his little sister?
Regardless of who started it, this seems like petty high school drama that’s lasted for a decade and I’m rolling my eyes at both of them. That’s not to say it’s not realistic, especially for small towns. That type of thing happens all the time. I just think one of them needs to put on their big boy/girl pants and be the first to sincerely apologize for their behavior over the last ten years or so.
EDIT: Although now that I’m thinking about it, sniping at Fiama about her job when Jonny knows she’s a single mom trying to take care of her kid is extra crappy.
EDIT 2: added the spoiler blur in case people haven’t gotten that far.
Not from the conversation the MC had with Fiama (if you decided to visit her at DC Diner). MC asked about Jonny and she somewhat admitted to be part of the bullying and waved it as in it’s highschool thing and Jonny should get over it. Jonny is weird and he holds grunge forever but for her to say yuck at him seems very excessive for someone who didn’t interact with him a lot.
And that’s why I just don’t feel like making effort to build relationship with her. My MC is all for the freaks and the weirds.
And also, because her behavior toward him somewhat reminds me of highschool bullies who don’t realize that they were terrible back then and continue to dismiss people they bullied when they grew up. So yeah, that just rub me the wrong way.
I don’t know if that’s what @pimenita plan though or I’m just thinking way too much about it.
Not really. She said her brother made a bunch of jokes. And if you ask Jonny about it he says Brandle and his class group that bullied him. There’s really no evidence that she did anything, yes she thought he was a freak, but there’s nothing saying she joined in the bullied him.
The first time you meet him she asks if he’s bothering you (which he was I didn’t like him staring at me), the first thing he does is make fun of her job as a waitress. Alot of the interactions between them at the park is Jonny saying something at her and her ignoring him.
I guess we see it differently. For me, I always have sympathy for those who are socially awkward so I have a soft spot for Jonny. His rude behavior seems like a self-protection mechanism because even though he talks as if he thinks he’s better than most people, he doesn’t seem to believe that. If your MC tries to flirt with him, he even thinks it’s impossible that the MC would like someone like him.
Kudos for @pimenita for making characters that we care. I have a feeling you are reading this gleefully.
I’m not saying you can’t have sympathy, i have problems with social interactions as well and yeah she does thinks he’s weird. But I’m just saying so far all I’ve seen is Jonny continuously poke and prod her, the only thing she’s said to him in the demo was at the diner where she asks what he’s doing here and asks if he’s bothering me, then he makes fun of her being a waitress and she throws back his job as a cashier.
So far I am not having that much sympathy for Jonny, tbh. I do feel sorry for him, for getting bullied an all that, but damn, he is one ball of bitterness
10 years is enough time to kind of get over it. I am not saying he should be friendly towards Fiama, I know I wouldn’t, but you can just simply not interact with her and not give her a second thought. Instead it seems like Jonny is so hanged up on the issue that it keeps affecting him even after all this years.
@No_This_Is_Patrick
I agree that Jonny was not being helpful to himself. He was rude to her but I kinda understand why; he was so pricky that even a simple social interaction threw him off.
I guess this is just me but Fiama should be the one with normal social skill so in other word, I was hoping she could be the better person in her interaction with Jonny.
@pimenita
Don’t worry, I’m also not interested in starting RO wars.
@Meira_Litch
He is but that just makes me want to poke him until he shed all that bitterness (if that is possible)
Watch out it doesn’t infect your MC with something
Still, regardless all of this I am gonna romance the shit out of him lmao. In fact it was pretty funny when I was talking with him about the bullying with my anti-social-but-intimidating MC, and he said something like I didn’t get bullied because I am scary as heck
Can’t wait to roleplay that ruthless MC getting a slight soft spot for Jonny.
She didn’t say a single word to him and the first thing he does is insult her for her job. She fired back yeah, but the next time he does it again at the park and jabs at her the entire time and she just chooses to ignore him.
Uhmm, my issue is that she talks bad about him when he’s not there. So Jonny attacks directly but it’s all barks no bite. Meanwhile Fiama said to MC that Jonny is a freak and yuck she couldn’t stand breathing the same air with him after he left.
I don’t know if it’s different scene but I didn’t remember reading that part where Fiama said he’s poking to get reaction.
Obviously we see it differently and I don’t feel the need to make people agree with me. This is just the way I see it and I’m curious if this is intentional by the author or not.
@Meira_Litch
For some reason my first MC was magnetic (I think I might be too friendly to people) and he called my MC ray of sunshine
He’s insulting her constantly, and its problem if she cant stand him and doesn’t want to be near him? Yeah she talks about him behind her back, but he’s harassing her every time she shows up so instead she holds it in and ignores him besides that one time at the diner.
It’s at the park if you ask her if it’s going to be a problem.
MC should just show up on their true form, chastise them both and end the problem
Eldritch monstrosity: You humans. I have enough problems as it is, so if I have to forcefully coexist with you, you better stop this nonsense before I eat both of you and throw your useless bones in the backyard.
Now both of them are traumatised and without fighting!
Okay, this is might be more about me than Jonny. I just don’t like people who talk behind people’s back, no matter what. And I’m also the type of person who, if someone told me bad things about a certain person, would end up making that certain person my best friend to refute what other people said. So Fiama irks me.
Edit: my reaction when Fiama said Jonny is a freak: ‘Oh really miss? Well then goodday to you, I’m off to find that freak so we can be gloriously weird together,’
Like I said, we see things differently and to avoid this turns to be a RO wars, let’s just agree to disagree
