Thoughts on being a gender locked game? I know I enjoy when I can pick when I play others stories. Am considering on making it gender locked to male, and would appreciate some feedback.
I would personally prefer this game not to be gender locked, however I believe I could still enjoy this game if it was.
Itās okay to gender lock games if thatās what you think is the best for it,take the infinity trilogy for example.
I think I would prefer the option to choose as well. Thanks!
Undergoing a bit of a rewrite as a part of editing. Will include more options to choose from, and a character builder. Will be updating the parts as I rewrite them. No changes to story line, just wanted to have more options available. That and the writing was terrifying lol.
The rest of chapter one will be rolling out as I rewrite it. This time I wont be rushing to get it out there.
I had to do a little research before deciding. Mc will start at ten while younger brother will be 8.
The journey will involve a parent, but not the mother!
Something towards the opposite of that
haha yeah I type too fast and then get lazy editing
Thanks though!
The six posts in a row thing is getting a bit annoying, so I guess itās time for a basic course in forum functionality.
@Mydoghasfleas Instead of writing a reply to each post separately you can reply in one post. When you do so you can refer to the person whose question youāre replying to by typing an @, and then their forum name, like I just did with yours. You can also refer to specific questions by selecting them, and then pressing the "quote reply button that pops up. For example:
(Make sure to separate quotes and other special features from the rest of the text by a blank line, because otherwise the text might go wonky.)
Lastly you can separate chunks off text by typing ā on a blank line. It will create a stripe like somewhere near the top and bottom of this post.
Hope that helps.
I understand that this story is set in medieval timesā¦
If you want the story to be more realistic, you should change:
You found yourself at ease around adults, listening to their discussions. You enjoyed learning and were never found without your favorite book in hand.
In medieval times books were very expensive and rare. So I donāt think that 10y old kid would run around with one. Not to mention that ability to read was quite rare too.
Kierstan greets you at the tone entraceway to your house, āTake those boots off before coming in. I cleaned a bit while you were gone.ā
Boots were expensive, and peasants rather used wooden clogs or bast shoes.
You knew he was right of course, but the soft cotton sheets were just too good to escape from.
I guess I donāt have to explain that one.
I had figured books would be unattainable to most in these times. However they are family owned left behind by your father, and it becomes revealed later that your family once had money.
I hadnāt however considered the boots or bed. Will have to reimagine these.
Thanks for pointing it out!
Thatās not a happy beginning at allā¦
Why would a slave or serf become a Knight, they are far more likely to be part of a poor peasant levy, no matter how skilled in warfare they might be (or more likely how much heaps of raw talent they may have in that direction).
For that matter why would a slave or serf even want to become one for the people that enslaved him in the first place, instead of using the chaos of the war to flee and gain freedom somewhere else, or even become a highwayman or a mercenary, both far more lucrative lines of work and the level of danger is about the same.
Historically, if the slave started out a knight but was sold into slavery then later released ⦠a la Crusaders but maybe @Mydoghasfleas could explain the society better of his world because ⦠[quote=āidonotlikeusernames, post:36, topic:18354ā]

The Janissary forces were an example of such forcesā¦
I agree that the story could develop everything better for us to understand.
But we start out as a peasant, even if we may be one from a long since fallen former noble family, whoās literate and numerate to boot (which I like very much), not a Knight.
Yes, but from what little there is of this game its got a standard, medieval European feel to it, not one that evokes the Ottoman Empire.
Even so being forcibly inducted into something like the early Jannissaries, the ones who where subject to brutal discipline by eunuchs would have been a death sentence to a gay boy, the latter ones (from the 16th century on, I believe) apparently much less so, but it still wouldnāt be a role my mc would relish.
Going with the standard of dark or dung ages battle however a tactic used with some success by historical (former) peasants was to simply drop and pretend to be dead and hope you got lucky enough not to be trampled on by the horses and then join the battlefield scavengers afterwards and work your way up or out from there. A chance my mc would rather take than bravely fighting for his āownersā, unless they have some special leverage like holding his family hostage or something over him.
We agree there then, because at the moment Iām not seeing any compelling reasons to fight for our owners instead of trying to escape.
