I like the thread being busy, but not if the comments are too off topic. It will undoubtedly quiet down every once in a while but I plan on releasing chapters regularly, so that will keep it going, I’m sure.
Sooooooo, we get to choose the gender of the MC in the next update, right?
Yep! On the second choice of the game, in fact.
I’m making very good progress. I’ve got a little over 14k right now, and the chapter will probably be ~ 17k so I think it’s likely I’ll be posting the full first chapter tomorrow or maybe Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest.
Cool, I look forward to it
MAJOR UPDATE:
Chapter One is now out! This brings the wordcount to well over 16k, and each playthrough is about 5.5k, so there’s a considerable amount of replay ability. In chapter one, you can meet 4/8 of the ROs: Rigel, Keano, Violet, and Mabelin.
Typo catching, bug catching, comments, and suggestions are much appreciated!
Love the update!

Thanks! Those errors are now fixed.
Ok, so something weird has happened twice now to me while I have my MC go to the woods; after meeting Keano (I think that’s how his name is spelled), when I go to the stats page and then go back to the game, I am sent to the beginning of the game, but all of my Stat changes stay the way it was before it sent me to the beginning. At first, I thought I had accidentally hit the “restart” button instead of the “back to game” button, since they are both right next to each other, and that maybe I had misread the stats the first time around, since I didn’t notice the stat changes until after I reached the part where I was before the “reset”. However, when I start the game over to make different choices (I like doing that), I choose the woods option again and met Keano (again). This time, I made different choices when interacting with him, deliberately trying to raise how he felt about my MC. After I went to the stats screen and saw how I was progressing, I made sure I was careful to not touch the restart button, and yet it still sent me to the begging of the game. I went back to the stats screen and I saw that, even though I was at the beginning of the game, my stats looked the same from before the “reset”…
Okay kinda inconsistent with the topic. But Allister and Sven as name choices. Two of the main characters from dragon age origins. If you’ve ever played that is.
If not that’s a huge coincidence that I’ve had the pleasure of spotting
Look at that beautifully created stats screen. Look at all the perfectly arranged skills and relations. I look forward to seeing them developed.
I can’t wait to see how you incorporate certain skills into the story (agriculture. Time to earn a green thumb).
I also look forward to doing two polar opposite play through. One a complete jackass. The other completely humble. Excited to see this story develop I really am.
Keep up the great work. It already looks amazing.
Wow, that is one bizarre bug! The only thing I can think of is that maybe you refreshed the stats screen right as I updated the game (fixing some typos.) Do you think you could try again and see if that bug is still there?
@justareader
Wow, that’s crazy because it’s pure coincidence. I don’t play video games, let alone Dragon Age: Origins.
Thanks so much!
Found an error
Playing a girl when choosing to head to library
Hobby line: 779 invalid set instructions
It seems that was the problem, because now it’s working fine.
Thanks! That’s fixed now.
Hooray! Sometimes the weirdest, most ridiculous bugs have the simplest solutions.
Question, would it be at all possible in the future to actually do a few of the pranks that Zaleth keeps suggesting? I mean, a few of them actually sound like they would be fun for a darker character, which does seem to be an option in this game.
Hmm, that’s actually a really good suggestion! Yeah, I think I’ll do that going forward, and maybe I’ll go back and add a couple choices where you could go along with his pranks.
Another small suggestion. I automatically try to set my character up a certain way to benefit from it’s stats. But (so far) they don’t have an affect on story line. I slightly expected having better strength or speed in the beginning to affect the results of sparring.
Example: I chose to run away from the bully to boost speed, and then the woods climbing. These boosted my speed skill which I expected to affect the outcome of using the staff to spar. It didn’t. But I hope for that kind of thing in the future of the story.
As you probably guessed from the large amount of stats, they will all end up having big effects on the story and choices as they progress. For the first two chapters, though, you will mainly just be building up your stats. It isn’t until chapter three that I’ll be giving stat checks, but by then they will be plenty and very important. I’m planning on doing something similar to what Mike did in Life of a Wizard, where you have several options that require a certain stat, and then a “fail” option if you aren’t able to succeed using those other choices.
As far as sparring with Mabelin, she’s such an experienced and skilled warrior that at this stage, she would always beat you. Although, if I did do stat checks at this point, higher speed/strength/melee stats would of course allow you to at least put up a better fight.
Oh I fully expected to lose. Just not so spectacularly. I felt just as dejected as my character felt looking as my staff broke in two.
I like the concept of having different ways to pass a scene that can cater to the players build stat as long as they choose correctly.
