In 2115, an asteroid collided with Earth killing 99% of life on the planet. The few remaining beings died out soon after. Humanity on Earth was gone.

Shortly before the event, many nations sent out huge spaceships to distant stars to prolong humanity and preserve life. All had the aim of starting fresh on a new planet. Many failed with the perils of space a temultuous place to be.

Yes, it’s true it’s been a few years since the first installment. What do you mean over 7 years?
I don’t promise to be fast with this. At present it is fully planned out but only 10k in writing on the page. I am working on a demo, but my priority is getting the engine up and running. It’s going to take me some time so please be patient there. This announcement is my commitment to the project. While you wait kindly for me to get around to making a proper demo, I have prepared a different sort of treat for you. Put on earphones, sit back and listen.

The Days Before

This is a song from one of the few people who was lucky enough to get a place on the spaceship you sent to Kepler 62e.

Lyrics:
I remember the days before the asteroid came.
Driving down streets without a care in the world.
You could move freely and breathe the cool air.
The sun on your face as you walked through a park.

Celebrating birthdays with the people you love.
Taking photos with trees and flowers and…
And beautiful scenery. Mountain, lakes, and rivers.
Swimming. Now that was a beautiful thing.

Then it came.
And it scared.
And it burned.
And it killed.
The Earth is no more, The Earth is no more.

Talking with friends as we ate icecream.
Romancing your crush with a future ahead.
Worries of money the only problem we had.
Futile, when you think about it. How everything changed.

Then it came.
And it scared.
And it burned.
And it killed.
The Earth is no more, The Earth is no more.

That asteroid killed my family.
It killed my friends and the people I knew.
It killed the children.
Those poor. Those poor innocent children.

When it came.
It scared.
It burned.
And it killed.
The Earth is no more, The Earth is no more.

Now, we are stuck in a tin can in space.
We will never get to leave this limited place.
It’s essential I know, but I often wonder,
Why we get to survive. Why not others. Others more worthy?

Then it came.
And it scared.
And it burned.
And it killed.
The Earth is no more, The Earth is no more.

Well this is intriguing!

Always down for colony sim, and I now have to play through the original again to see what all could be affected by choices in the original.

Looking forward to seeing more!

3 things

1- congrats on the live demo

2- bruh one page in and you already killed off everyone on earth now I feel like there’s no purpose on building the underground bunkers :sob: wasted billions of tax dollars on false hope

3- are you planning to include an import save from the last game or is it semi standalone

1 Thanks!
2 Point of view is everything. Since the asteroid hit, there has been no communication with Earth. 1200 years later, I think everyone aboard the ship is assuming.
3 I still don’t know… The nature of the end of Evacuation is very open. To do it justice, I would need to write a compatible opening for a cryogenic ship (which I do have planned out), but then also adjust how people talk to each other in the later game… Many factors would be different including your age, the people you know, and how you interact. For now I’m focussed only on the main story from a habitation ship point of view.

Maybe you could unify things by having the Cryo start to fail? So in this game the maintenance team with the advantage of the superior tech a cryoship implies starts having to wake passengers up and create a hybrid cryo-gen ship.

I would hope the results from game 1 would be significant without creating unmanageable branching.

Hmmm… While that would ruin a LOT of planning for the cryogenic opening, it would definitely be easier to marry up with the habitation opening.

Your character from the first game (if saved on the ship) could be your great-grandfather. That would solve the problem of the age of your character. The next issue is the history aboard the habitation ship. That history has heavily influenced how people live and your first steps on Kepler 62e itself (without giving too much away). The cryogenic survivors wouldn’t have that. There is a possible workaround though with the hybrid-ship history (now merged into the habitation ship).

That just might be a great idea, cascat!

This seems interesting.

I did notice that sometimes the game uses ā€œsheā€ for Jo-Too, I may have understood it wrong but is it not supposed to be ā€œtheyā€?

Oh, good spot - I thought I’d changed all of them! (switched from she to they during writing).

So why is China hard mode and Scotland is easy mode, also haven’t read the first book, so I don’t know if there’s a I lore reason why Russia isn’t apart of the country list, because I feel like they would be

They are throwbacks to the first game. I’ll tidy up the character creation menu at some point. Basically, in the first game, if you played as Scotland, you started with a lot more cash each year. With China, I think the rioting stats were high. Neither of those will be relevant with this game.
As for Russia… I’ve no idea why they’re not there! I’m guessing an oversight on my part. You are the first person to question it.

I watch CoGdemo regularly and when I seen this pop up I was hyped! I still remember playing the first game so many times to see mostly everything and played about 5 of the county’s seeing what I could do. I also remember getting so good at the ship and tech stuff I had enough time to build a whole second ship if the game would of let me. Also robot wife is best wife and upgraded to be light enough to be my carry on :joy:

Haha, that’s wonderful to hear! I’ve been working over the weekend on the next part of the demo. My aim it to update fortnightly, with something else each alternate week. You will be happy to know that there will be a ā€˜building’ section within this game along the same vein as the first game.

Writing is going well and the next update will go out on 26th/27th October.

This Saturday, however, I will release one song from the game.
The first four songs are from individual nations and were written during the journey to Kepler 62e.
The last option is from the book Evacuation and changes depending on the (English speaking) nation you play as.

  • America Alive
  • The British Still Go On
  • Vers Kepler - French
  • ä½ ęœƒčØ˜å¾—ęˆ‘å—Ž - China
  • (City) Lights - Amela le Mara song from Evacuation.

Results are in!!

The poll is now closed with the British beating America by a couple of votes. As those two songs mirror each other in the game, I’ll release them both together.

The demo has been updated with the new songs. To play them, select ā€˜Listen to Music’

I’m interested in everyone’s perspective on these songs - both positive and definitely negative too! Please indicate your nationality when giving your opinion here.
