The CoG TVTropes Page

There’s now some content on the Way Walkers University page, thanks to some great fans of the game. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/WayWalkersUniversity I have no idea how to index it or anything though.

@SamuraiMantis The more the merrier when it comes to helping out. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I’ve made some content for Sabres of Infinity, check it out here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/SabresOfInfinity

I have to say, it’s only my first time editing, but it’s pretty slow work if you’re trying to do it properly, I only have around 25 tropes partially developed, but it took me nearly 3 hours altogether. I really enjoyed the process though, and I’ll definitely keep at it, either with some more content for SOI or look into other COG games.

@RupertDragoul Wow. Nicely done. I bet @Cataphrak will be pleased with all of the work you’ve put in. I’m impressed.

@FairyGodfeather
You win… an unspecified amount of whatever you bet. I am, indeed, quite impressed @RupertDragoul! I’ve put up a tweet about the page. Keep going if you have the time!

@Cataphrak

Haha, glad you like it, I enjoyed Sabres of Infinity a great deal and was invested in it from the moment it was just a few posts on a forum page. I’ll do some more work on it while playing the game in a side tab, and see if I can bring it up to 100 tropes by the end of the day.

An update on the Sabres of Infinity page: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/SabresOfInfinity
I’ve taken the total up to over 50 tropes with a greater emphasis on detail over quantity, I’d say the page is perfectly functional on its own now, but I’m sure I can add more as soon as I find out how spoiler tags work. For now I’m taking a break, I’m pretty pleased with how my first entry has gone so far, but I’d be happy to hear any feedback people may have.

@RupertDragoul Wow. You’ve done so much and those are really well written too. Are you going to put entries into the tropes pages too?

Yes I think I’ll get to that in a day or two, it should help SOI and COG games in general get some more publicity.

Dude, you’re like the master of tropes. Kudos!

@kakistocracy
You’re too kind, I have to say, I was rather intimidated by the editing interface at first, but it wasn’t so hard after all, though until I learn how to use spoiler tags, there are limits to how much I can put in without ruining several surprises. Have you played SOI yourself?

I think you do spoilers by [[spoiler:SPOILER TEXT GOES HERE]] Nonspoiler text [[spoiler:More spoilers go in here]]

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Administrivia/HandlingSpoilers?from=Main.HandlingSpoilers has some examples on what to and not to do with spoilers.

@FairyGodfeather
Thanks, I’ll give that a shot tomorrow.

@RupertDragoul
I have, and it’s one of my favorites! I’ll have to contribute sometime too, when I’m not swamped.

Aha! the spoiler tag works! thanks @FairyGodfeather It won’t be long before I finish editing on SOI now.

@kakistocracy good to hear, its quite a work, and with all its material, an excellent piece to start work on as a new troper. Were there any tropes I’ve listed that surprised you, or ones you hadn’t thought of before?

I never thought about the muggles comparison, but it’s very apt once you pointed it out! I also never explored Hernandes in depth, so it’s interesting to see his tropes spelled out.

Well after learning how the spoiler tags and quoting tags work, I’d say I’ve just about finished editing Sabres of Infinity, standing at around 70 tropes, including Crowning Moments of Heartwarming and Crowning Moments of Awesome subsections. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/SabresOfInfinity

@FairyGodfeather Thanks for encouraging my involvement, I had a lot of fun with this, and will probably look into setting up other COG pages too.

@Cataphrak
Now that I’ve made a comprehensive page, what’s your opinion on this interpretation of your work? Anything that was unintended, or stands out for you in particular?

@RupertDragoul
Honestly, I’ve always considered TVTropes to be an outside eye looking in, and I categorically refuse to edit, or order someone else to edit a trope page for one of my own works: it feels like I’d be altering the whole thing to fit my own perceptions as opposed to the perspective of people who enjoy the work in question.

Personally, if I were looking at the page with fresh eyes, I’d be astonished to realize that it was primarily the work of one person. You’ve done a great job (though I think tropes and their descriptions are supposed to be separated by a colon. Just a minor nitpick) and I’m really grateful that you’ve put in the time and effort to put this together. I definitely had a few tropes in mind when I wrote a few characters or scenes, and I’m glad that I’m not the only one that recognized them in the text.

All in all, well done!

Also, if you have anything in the wider setting or inside the characters’ heads you want clarified as “Word of God”, just shoot me a PM, and I’d be happy to answer as best I can.

@Cataphrak
Thanks for pointing out the absence of colons, all tidied up now. That’s great to hear, and I can appreciate such an objective attitude, I’m glad my first foray into editing has gone so well after years of being just an observer.

I’ve learned a lot of new material in the process, which will help as I’m in the process of writing my own novel, I feel that editing on TV Tropes also helps in the development of creativity, organisation skills and attention to detail. Of course, it’s a huge motivator when you are building a page on a work of fiction you greatly enjoy, which in my case applies to the majority of COG games.

Bumping this http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/ChoiceOfGames since we still need contributions.

@Grapefruit Reminded me that we have a TV tropes page for Choice of Games. (And thus also reminded me that we had a thread for the TV Tropes page that hadn’t been bumped in over a year.)

It’s looking nicely up to date in terms of Choice of Robots, although there are some games that are lacking entries. The Hosted Games section in particular is looking sparse.
