I just finished the demo, I loved it, I’m going to play it again just to see if there’s anything that can be improved on but narrative wise it’s great
Not good to ask authors about such against the forum rules as well based off this post and what youhave connected it to there is no relation to such a thing it was there real world life situation.
Good stuff dude. Looking forward to more
Ah yea sorry I had the thought when I had Ben up for far to long and it slipped my mind that it was a rule
As I said I believe it has potential to be a trilogy or at least your main character can join the likes of other brilliant warlords noted in history, such as Shingen Takeda and Kenshin Uesugi for example.
Anyone here watched any Japanese movies directed by Akira Kurosawa? Many of his movies are samurai movies which can provide inspiration.
Plus I might add Kurosawa himself is a descendent of Samurai.
I’ve watched several Kurosawa movies and they serve as a big inspiration! Ran in particular with the more grand narrative.
I love the optimism and interest! Thank you for always bringing that, sabre. I will have to, regretfully, smash any trilogy hopes. This is a self-contained story that I’m REALLY hoping to keep under a million words. As you may have noticed, there’s a lot of work that goes into interactive fiction like these: historical research, writing droughts, periods of not even wanting to LOOK at samurai. It’s surprisingly draining!
This is a story I’ve always wanted to tell. I’ve always felt there’s a lack of feudal Japanese representation in these works of art, and it’s a period I’ve always had an unhealthy interest in. That said, it’s just one of many stories I want to tell. I have no interest in dedicating the better part of a decade to just this story, especially given that I don’t intend to be a full-time writer and I’ll always be struggling with the balance between my normal life and my writing.
So, to my great dismay, the (ahistorical) story of the Amago clan will likely end with this book
I understand
As I said in an earlier comment the Main Character can be among the more famed warlords of the era such as Shingen Takeda, Kenshin Uesugi and a few others.
I agree with lack of feudal Japanese representation in these interactive fiction among the reasons I am so very interested in Tale of Two Princes.
We need more standalones
Would we get involved with the invasion of Korea?
Also what other historical IFs do you want to do?
Good to see this still goin strong. Lookin forward to playing my Nobunaga/Cao Cao inspired mc again.
nice to see the author alive and well. Being a samurai is always fun to play and this story easily caught my interest
Fully agreed. I see too many barely upkept WIP’s proclaiming another 2 or 3 books. If you’re not able to release a standalone book, you’re definitely not able to release a series. If you start your first ever work for hosted games with the scope of several books, it’s almost a guarantee no one will get to see it finished. Not to mention the amount of stories that just REALLY suffer from spending so long as a WIP only to end on a cliffhanger, case in point with Sword of Rhivenia and Unsupervised.
I don’t envision the story to continue past the proclamation of Hideyoshi as Kampaku, possibly even earlier. It’s a rather regionally contained story of the rivalry between the Amago/Amako and the Mori. Historically the Mori won by around the 1570s/80s, at least 10 years before the invasion of Korea. It’s just too big of a scale for this single book and it goes too far beyond the arc I envision for the book. You grow up, you struggle and develop, you have a final big conclusion. An invasion of Korea would require at least a second book focusing on the end of the Sengoku Jidai and the Toyotomi succession struggle.
I don’t intend for my next work to be historical in nature, I’d rather do something more supernatural/fantasy oriented. One idea I’ve been spinning a bit, without drawing too much focus away from this work, is where you’re a demon possessing what the world believes to be the chosen one. I’ve always wanted better demonic stories and I’d like to tackle some of the gripes I had with The Passenger (mainly how underpowered we felt).
Still, I’d rather not distract myself TOO much from this work. Fantasizing about future works helps when you’re desperately in need of a break from your current venture but I would never want to tempt myself into leaving something unfinished.
Hope you’re going to enjoy the amount of personification I’ve put into this upcoming update then, even if there’s no large scale conflict for a few chapters. I’m hoping for the update to breach at least 60 000 words before I publish it, I’m currently around 50 000.
A story like tje Passenger would be wonderful
That sad to hear your story about feaudal japan will end but yeah also happy that you’re still here and still writing this story i feel worried sometimes that this story not gonna finish
