Tale of Two Princes - Feudal Samurai Warfare - [26K WORDS] [UPDATED 01/29]

Alright if those kind of decisions are added like I said with the after battle decision you could spare and recruit which would add to the army if you recruit them but it will lower discipline
but if you kill them it increases loyalty and maybe discipline depending on how dark it goes using them as moving targets would probably be a separate choice but it would definitely reward dishonorable characters (may lose favor or relation on honorable characters it could depend on the clans actions as in if they where doing similar things or not)
Assuming those stats will be a thing most games have that be the case so I’m assuming

DEV LOG #3

My sincerest apologies for being silent for some time!

I’ve been thrown left and right by life for the past week and neglected to keep you guys updated on what was going on.

I was away for 5 days on a military exercise, spent the weekend celebrating finishing the exercise as well as celebrating my 20th birthday, and the last few days have been me acclimating to a new academic course. All in all, I’ve been rather busy.

I haven’t had that much time to work on the game yet, but the time I have managed to squeeze in, I’ve spent on fixing all the reported issues and creating a more robust system for handling the personalities of characters. I’ve also been working closely with kckolbe to improve stats, stat checks, and the writing quality of already existing content. I envision that the next update will come alongside some large rewrites and additions to the previous chapters, much like the last update did. This is a consequence of my inexperience as a writer, and especially as an IF writer. This book will be an iterative process, and I’m very happy for any feedback you’ve given me regarding both mechanics and story content.

I don’t have a lot more to add other than the promise that characters, including your own, will be significantly more interesting, involved, and deep going forward. This dev log was mostly just to keep you guys in the loop and announce my official return from my short hiatus.

Stay tuned!

Just watched the 2 first episodes of Shogun and I have to say I’m thoroughly enjoying it so far. The names of historical characters being different than in reality was somewhat jarring but overall I’m really looking forward to the next episode.

I’d highly recommend watching it if you’re interested in getting some material for your minds eye so you can visualize things in this book; it captures the environments very accurately.

When it’s ready

I’m working on it as much as I can, it’s not easy balancing writing with my military service

That said, I’m very glad people are interested in the next chapter. It’ll come, as Nevantyr put it, when it’s ready.

Is there gone be more romance options or just only one?

More than one, all will be genderlocked, at least one will be male, and one is a foreigner. More will be introduced in the coming 2-3 chapters and I plan on expanding Tomoe’s presence in the existing chapters as well!

What does notoriety do?

It’s, as mentioned, a measure of how well-known you are. It will have an impact on several aspects, most notably how people react to your presence and how your diplomatic relations go. Notoriety isn’t always good as people can band together against you if they feel that you are a major threat. High notoriety can easily take on a life of its own as well, with rumours and eventually legends becoming larger than life retellings of you and your actions.

Are you going to have 2 forms of fame? because usually notoriety is referred to people know for being dishonorable and dreadful whereas people who know to be honorable are know as famous or prestigious things like that.
And I’d get not wanting to have 2 forms because their would have to be different dialog for each so if you don’t want to add 2 might want to make it fame.
And it could be where being prestigious or famous would make getting allies easier but it would be way easier to lose points in it (I can’t really think of a negative for that so if that’s the reason you didn’t add 2 that would make sense)

And infamous stays how you seem to be planning it

Chapter Two was great, but I did find it odd how Kunihisa didn’t have a single word to say before his execution? So the whole scene felt very rushed. Similarly, the narration talks a big deal about my character losing his belief in the honor of the Samurai, but my character was dishonorable to begin with?

WTF? Noteriety doesn’t refer to moral alignment. In fact it really doesn’t refer to anybody because it isn’t an adjective. The word is just used when discussing how widely known something or somebody is.

Might have explained it wrong but if someone is notorious he is known to be dreadful their is different terms for the type of fame someone has notorious means their dreadful if I still didn’t explain it correctly look up the term of notoriety

Notorious and noteriety are two different words though with two different meanings even if they come from the same root. Plus there’s already a stat which keeps track of how honorable or dishonorable you are which is why your question blew me.

Not exactly, the trait system redesign by kc is going to involve a lot of combining: charisma+social = charm, physical+social = intimidate, and so on. One of these is notoriety and how it plays into your personality and actions. It doesn’t swing one way or another but combined with other things you can end up with fame or infamy.

Is there be any chance like MC get old enough that his father give him and his brother a castle or village to test them who is better?

Might be an interesting way to grow your character, I’m on the lookout for interesting things to include in the “growing up” chapters.

Thanks for the feedback! I do believe the tail portion of chapter 2 should have been fleshed out more and I let it out of the oven a little too early, it’s partly why I’m taking more time with chapter 3. There’s been work done on chapter 2 and especially the whole ending sequence, I think you’ll like it.

No need to be so harsh, we’re all here to enjoy and improve upon a story

I’m guessing you just searched the word notorious because both mean a state of bad quality or deed the difference is only in the state of that fame being current or as a past tense.

And fair enough their is a honor and dishonor system hence why I also suggested calling it be called fame it doesn’t really matter it’s just the word that seemed weird to me hence why I mentioned it

Ah alright didn’t realize that.
but that’s a cool way to do a fame system.

I dont think they give handshakes in sengoku era. At this point Tomoe is lower class than MC it might be better if she bow. Correct me if im wrong.
