@Lithophene
I swear, sometimes it’s like you lurk in my mind…
As part of the game, you can learn abilities and certain weapon/attack styles from other characters. And if you fall, there are several new weapons/weapon modifications available–at least that’s the plan right now. It’s only a handful of new/modified weapons, because I want to spend more time working on the depth of the story rather than writing each path for 14+ weapons or something like that
@FudsyWoiffles@Joey_Lai
I’m glad you two are enjoying replaying it so much. Just graduated so the next couple updates should be coming a little quicker now.
Not gonna lie - I just kinda laughed at the idea of being able to manifest your angel blade as a pair of pistols 'cause of your (future) experience as a police officer. That’d be a sight. Now there just needs to be a character to teach my Gabriel krav maga and I’ll be content!
Though on a more serious note, I figure the 'panthers would probably be the ones to teach some sort of martial arts fighting. Beyond the more traditional fighting styles that… Well, actually, now I have a question. We know that our Gabriel becomes a police officer. Now I’m wondering: are they just… plopped in there? Or are they going to go through the rookie treatment where they have to go through police academy and all that good stuff?
@Lithophene@Lizzy
These people are the ones who reminded me through their posts in the Best WIP that I should actually get back to informing others of what I’m up to. This is not a dead WIP at all. I’m still actively working on it, and in fact if you want more stuff check on the tumblr I made for it here. Also, because the rate of updates is slow and meeting a large amount of the characters in the game will take quite a while at this rate if you would like to ask characters questions or see notes/more potential spoilers and characters who won’t be around for a while, head over there. The questions can help me by letting me know what you folks might like to know about characters and any areas that I may want to reconsider/redesign.
and much thanks @FairyGodfeather for reopening this when I inquired!
And back to answering questions! (With answers that have been sitting on my computer for months…)
They’re kind of plopped there. What happens, as will be explained, is that the shell has a backstory crafted for them to A. explain why you are in charge of Daniel (Aunt/Uncle) and B. to get you the job. Sabriel, who you will be meeting relatively soon, does a whole lot of explaining about how things work, but the background is that your character used to be a part of a joint police and FBI task force working on bringing down a group of gun smugglers. After the murder of your ‘sister,’ your nephew was passed into your custody. Because you are now responsible for a child, you decided to switch to a new city for personal safety and transfer to local law enforcement for a steadier, more reliable time-table, but really, it comes down to what Sabriel is able to conjure together. They still get treated as the newest rookie of the team because: A. They’ve never actually been part of the Homicide department and B. They are new to the city and have the least years on the force according the forged background. Sabriel chose this profession because it has order and Gabriel still gets to chase down bad guys, so sort of like being an archangel to a degree. The lack of official training is going to be a point of some problems, for sure. But you get help in the form of Manual, who points out things like the need to do your paperwork and not let it sit and pile up. And you can learn martial arts, several different styles from different characters… including one of the panthers.

Thanks! @Zsero hand shoots out from the shadows to steal the virtual cookie
Noms…
I mean, thanks!
And in the shortly coming update I’ve made a few changes.
To toggle the fade effects go to stat screen, and there is an option there to switch them off.
More save slots. (Only a few more).
Since 1, I will no longer be updating the ‘version without effects’ so please do not use that link if you wish to see new content.
I will have a series of questions to ask when I get the update up (aiming for this weekend/Friday) but for now this is mostly a post to say that this isn’t dead… nor undead.
Wonderful news! I did consider mentioning this on the best WiP thread too, but I didn’t dare hope it wasn’t dead. Glad it isn’t so. While there isn’t much content yet, I love everything I’ve seen so far. Probably the highest anticipation to existing content ratio I’ve experienced in a WiP.
It took every fiber of my being to not shriek in joy when I saw this was opened back up! I’ll wait at the edge of my seat waiting for more news! This might just be my best weekend yet! =D
@Dae-kalina, it’s great to see that you’re here! I was starting to get all wistful over Iain and pairing up my male Gabriel with him. Gosh, I’m getting mini flashbacks of all those discussions we had back then, haha! Don’t be surprised if you get a message from me over on tumblr asking about Iain, heh… It’s good to have you back.
Damn okay so I’ve only read a little bit but I love your writing style it’s so good I gotta keep reading I’ll write a more thought out review later. Just wanted to say it’s very good
I loved the appearance customization, there are very few WIPs with this freedom to choose to have a body with two different genders (actually I just found two counting with this one).
OMG my internet craps out for a few days, and when I come back I find out that my favorite WIP isn’t dead! Totally worth having to do all my work on the iphone.
Let me just make a friendly observation, when an WIP is closed it doesn’t mean that it’s dead. Many of the times it only means that the author is having other things on his/her plate and that the game will remain a while without being updated, at least to the public eye.
So don’t be too sad when you see an WIP closing. Eventually there is an high probability that it will come back.
Still enjoying this WIP greatly and am liking what I see on the tumblr. Just caught a pesky little typo in it though.
“You wonder if it has to do with the rumor, completely unsubstantiated, that you dipped your wings in metal and that they will cut any who get to close.”
! You’re asking if Daniel, the child we become caretaker of, is a romance option? Even if there was a time skip and Daniel was suddenly of age, that’s a big bucket of worms that might best be left closed.
