That is true enough.
I’m quite fond of Ruby, but the love of her kind of snuck up on me (and my MC, Misty). I treated her as a friend throughout the game, and it was only at the very end that I realized that Misty by now probably has a serious crush on her.
Too bad that we can’t choose to go for her romance later in the game. Since I don’t like having to make this choice this early I tried to stall there, but I don’t think the choice was offered ever again.
This is all making me very excited to write more Ruby in Lux!
She isn’t really romanceable in Sordwin. Like Gunther, you can build a relationship with her and then make the decision about how strong your feelings are at the end. Not choosing the attraction option in Chapter 1 has no impact on the route and definitely doesn’t close this path.
Having an Evertree ally however, does mean she doesn’t play a very big role in the story so that’s another reason she probably doesn’t get the same level of love
PS. I’ve been away for basically a month and didn’t take my writing with me so apologies all for the radio silence. I’m now back and look forward to updating on progress over the next few weeks!
Thanks everyone for the continues support. I always read everything put in these threads so thank you for sharing
Yes, that’s what I thought. I’m looking forward to how the initially unrequited emotions pan out later on.
The Sordwin edit has been submitted! This means that I can finally get back to working on Lux! The edit of Sordwin is mostly for punctuation, grammar and a few errors that occurred during the copy edit. I suspect most people won’t even notice the difference
The only change that might affect some people’s playthrough (apologies! It was a necessary change for Lux!) is that the duelist class now has spellcasting as its dump stat. Casting spells is illegal in professional duels so if you want to pursue this ambition, your spellcasting will take a hit at the beginning of the book.
Anyway, that’s all for now from me on this thread, although I’ll continue to check it out as people discuss the characters and stories. If you’re on Twitter or Facebook, please do follow me for more details and to see some of the amazing fan art/fiction that readers have sent me. As always, so grateful for all of you. Without readers like you, the series would not be what it is today
Duelist’s dump stat used to be observation, yes? This is great news!
Yup. When I was writing up the introduction to the Duelist plotline in chapter 1, it just didn’t make sense to have observation be weak. The point of the duelist is that you use tricks and terrain to your advantage. Plus, thematically I think it will be fun to have certain limitations and restrictions in duelling. I hope it will make it suitably different to the military careers and the crusader.
My MC was a duelist before I noticed the observation drop and had to switch to be a scout instead (perception’s her second-highest stat in Evertree). I thought the explanation for it made sense then, but this makes me even happier! I’ll keep her as a duelist now when I replayed her file.
Prepare to be wowed by this Daisy Thorne
Commissioned by xla-hainex on tumblr (because I just can’t get enough )
So gorgeous!!!
right! I’m back on their waiting list to possibly do a combined Daisy + my MC. Im looking forward to hot virtual smooches
Pretty sure i got the gist of it from other posts but agreeing to a threesome at any point with Dandy/Daisy brings up complications later on right?
No, not necessarily. Your major choices throughout the story matter more. In one playthrough I had, I did the second threesome and had no complications.
Yeah i figured as much. I’m hoping that since my elf ain’t up for it a second time & doesn’t cheat getting them to not end things will be a bit easier. Dandy/Daisy really love to make things complicated that’s for sure though they do have their reasons, really helps make 'em a more three dimensional character.
So, from time to time I think about the World map for Evertree Saga. Re-reading Sordwin today, I see the center of the Empire is the capital of Pnuja [EDIT: Author, ThomB, confirmed this is months travel away!]… In our MC’s northern province, the city of Lux is considered “the gateway to the southern plains”. I struggle to wrap my head some other things (until more info in future books) so here’s what I’ve got so far:
- I noted there’s a mention that Leah’s father escaped into the Firstwood on his way to Lux back from Flom [“village” of homes in some Plains in our northern province somewhere, confirmed].
- While following the edge of the Firstwood for at least 2 days (from unknown inn/settlement/city)–we see the Serpentcoil mountains–known to be in most northern part of the Empire (though we watch the sun set behind them)–beyond the vast green of the Firstwood, a day’s travel away from Lux.
- Tyr [mages’ city] is snuggled in the foothills of the Serpentcoil Mtns, so I imagine the “thousands of miles” of Firstwood still might have a fair gap before reaching the city up there.
- I’ve headcannoned that the small city of Blackstone is north of Lux, while super law-abiding Veyawin is on the opposite side of the Firstwood. Though, no evidence of the layout that I’ve found yet.
- Shores of Lytia province [1 of the 16 provinces, apparently, that borders Ettijan province somewhere] are the southern most of the Empire
UPDATE: I got some names of islands, cities, and/or provinces from Daisy, Ruby, and Lady Carlotta Rivera. But little idea exactly what/where some things are exactly. Was there more World map info elsewhere?
Found things, For interested folks
Presumably islands or coastal mainland towns:
- Everwinter (near Ruby’s northern island, Forbard)
- Roanach
- Longo
- Hanmor (Ruby won the Phoenix; best rum)
Presumably Towns or Provinces (& known for):
- Helon (cakes, per D)
- Ilios [province, confirmed] (spices like meals, per D)
- Sol (firewater, per D)
- Credou (string quartet, per D)
- Via (Flavia Di Santiago singer, per D)
Other:
- Tagith high temple, lone mountain in Southern Plains
- Gonin, Lady Carlotta’s hometown, border of Lytia & Ettijan provinces (with Mausoleum of Emperor Hamar)
- Gonin, a village “on Eladrey” (a river?! an island? a place name?)
- Seven Kraken Sea (1 day’s travel between Lux & Sordwin island)
Any further help or thoughts?
Dude, that scene where MC and Daisy discussed about their relationship was intense. It seems Daisy has problems with the relationships, that’s why she’s trying to avoid serious talks and engaging MC with threesomes.
I gained the happy ending with her. Let’s see if I can break her mask and fears in Book 3. I’m going to make her fall for my MC so hard that she will forget about open relationships
What I took from the conversation with Dandy/Daisy was that they are actually a surprisingly insecure person - because they think their fantastic looks are basically their only good/attractive feature, they’re fearing that once the sex appeal has worn off, MC will drop them for someone more interesting. They don’t quite want an open relationship - if MC sleeps with Winter, D will be furious and hurt. The threesome was a way to spice things up, because D doesn’t know how else to keep a person interested in them
D doesn’t want to be alone, and it isn’t quite that they haven’t fallen for MC. They seemed more surprised that MC has actually fallen for them and doesn’t just see it as a sexy fling (if you so choose).
That’s how I remember understanding the situation, but it’s been a bit since I played Sordwin. So maybe my memory is warped a bit.
I want to know more about the Firstwood. Whether in terms of geography or otherwise, it intrigues me. I hope that we end up there again sometime in the later books, especially since it’s so close to Lux.
well, apparently it extends “thousands of miles” towards Serpentcoil Mtns, so I imagine it’s possible! And if what D says in Evertree Inn is to be believed, you can read a bit more about some of those creatures within the Firstwood by peeking in the Encyclopedia of Monsters found at the bookstore on Sordwin.
