Song of the Fallen WIP: New Battle Mechanics tester (25 October 2024)

Wow, this has gone quiet for a while

Is this Story still active? I wanted to know because I really enjoyed the concept.

I cannot find a tumblr or any other other dev site so I think it might be dead, or at the very least on hiatus

Damn I forgot the name of the IP so I was searching for keywords and I finally came across it hoping it’d been updated. A little disappointing but what is there to do?

I’m surprised this didn’t close sooner. I believe there’s an automated system that shuts threads down after 3 months of inactivity and, well, looking at the dates, the last time anyone made a post on this thread, before yours, was 12 months ago…

I took a peek at the author’s activity and the last time they wrote anything was about a year ago. Either they became lurkers or simply moved on. Either way, fair to assume this game is dead.

It’s 2 months, but the automated system actually needs to be enabled. I’m pretty sure it is enabled by default now for non-announcement posts, but it’s likely that the thread is old enough that that wasn’t the case yet.

Sorry for the long hiatus. I died and had to be born again. Busy working on a new update though, to drop end of the month. Stay tuned…

I’m sure we’ll get a chance to stab her back when she does that. That was too much for the Mc. Time to embrace the dark side

I’m so happy I had heard this wip was gone for good I think this is one of my favorite story’s so far. I also really wanted to ask if the best friend is a future RO.

I have spent these days&nights of silence, living life and weaving together the next Chapter of our ongoing Tale. I continue to live life, but I’m also finding more inspiration and time for dreaming and writing. I’m working on an update, to drop at the end of this month. It will be all the new words I have at that point. I’ll continue to drop updates each month, with the new words I have at that moment in time. My dream is to complete this story, as soon as possible. I appreciate all the support, felt and received so deeply from people I’ve never met. You all inspire me in ways I truly have no words for.

As I prepare for the month-end update. I’ll be dropping pages I’ve written many moons ago, of a key character you’ll meet at a key point in our Tale. Her name is Cynderella, though unless you know her deeply, her name is Cyn.

Your character will meet her, eventually, and you will decide what to make of her role in our Tale.

Cynderella - Page 1

The Jipsee-Train
The night is cold. The air speaks in shivering songs of frost and acid bite. Cyn watches the children play. It’s an old game, perhaps the first there ever was. The little boy closes his eyes and begins to count, each breath nestled by a tinkle of laughter.

“One for the lady who sits by the bay. Two for the man whose eyes never stay. Three for the sunset lit by the day. Four for the badman dressed in the grey.”

As the little boy sings out his count, the others all scatter, desperately searching for a place to hide. Cyn smiles, remembering long gone days of breathless play and the simple innocence of running and hiding.

We still run…we still hide .” whispers her griefDaemon.

Cyn’s nose twitches at the unwelcome interruption. “Can we please not do this today? ” She mumbles, in thought.

Nothing is ever done .” snarls the griefDaemon.

Cyn bristles, before slowly taking a breath and shifting her focus back to the boy as he continues to sing his count.

“Five for the wind when it blows by the trees. Six for the sight that your eye never sees. Seven for the flower, a gift to the bees. Eight for the wave, a child of the seas. Nine for the time left clicking on the clock. Ten, no time left, everybody stop!”

The boy opens his eyes and looks around in wild delight. “I already see you Wendy!” He shouts, pointing at a girl crouched behind a tree, as he starts dashing towards her. She squeals with ecstatic fear and stumbles as she tries to run away from him. The boy taps her on the shoulder, his face full of crooked teeth as he beams his grin.

“You’ve been found, you’ve been found, stay in place without a sound!” Sings the boy.

The girl pouts and sits back against the tree, her arms folded in defeat. The boy puts his finger against his lips, the universal symbol for silence, and creeps off to search for the others. Cyn crinkles her brow, trying to remember his name.

Not the Butchers son…Maybe Alric’s little brother…No wait, I’m sure he tends to the horses…

“Why do we pretend to care about these people? They’re lost, like all the others”. Whispers her griefDaemon

“No’ones pretending!” Thinks Cyn, clutching her dress as she feels the Shivering begin.

You don’t even know their names! ” says the griefDaemon. “Besides, you’ve seen the signs, you know Lady Death is kind but never merciful. The end has already begun.

Cyn tries to ignore the Daemon, and focuses on her breathing, like the Old Man taught her. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Deep and intentional. Ignore the outside noise. Ignore the inside noise. Find the quiet balance within. She bites her lip as the Shivering grows, her clenched fists starts to shake. Her memory starts to wander…

It begins with the smell, an oily stench of decay and violent sex. Of many moving bodies, sweaty and unclean. The smell is metallic and putrid. It is leather and food left outside for too many days. So familiar, too familiar. Cyn tries to reject the smell, desperately tries to spit out the taste of semen and blood. She tries to breath and direct the Shivering away from her mind, but her whole body trembles and shakes, and thinking has become a cloudy affair. She feels the pull of old memory claiming her, desperately trying to fight against it, even as she feels her will slipping away.

It’s going to be the day you murdered him, this time. ” says the griefDaemon. “We need to remember our shame, it’s the only way to be better.

Please don’t do this… ” Begs Cyn, her thoughts already heavy and dreamlike as the memory claims her mind.

Nothing is ever done. ” Purr’s the Daemon. “That’s the problem.

The Shivering takes her. She vaguely feels her body fall to ground, her muscles twitching and convulsing. Though as the seconds become infinite moments, her body becomes a whisper, as her mind is taken by the old memory.

The best friend, Ehren, will return in our Tale, but it will be many Chapters before you see him again.

And here I was thinking that we’d be seeing our mc’s forced and no doubt very awkward transition into an outlaw vagrant vagabond…with a minor case of literal demon inside…not that there aren’t many figurative demons inside my mc as well at this point…but at least they are less immediately life-threatening. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Lol, have no fear, there will be a few scoops of outlaw, vagrant, vagabondery. But, perhaps not quite in the way you may be imagining right now.

Damn, that game made some impression on me. I thought about it sometimes. Awesome it’s coming back!

And yeah, that stabbing still hurts even after all this time :sleepy:
