Just had to jinx it.
Seriously, as presented in the context of the game, the “old man” seems more of an overseeing meddler into the MC’s affairs.

Hehe loving the game I look forward to seeing more with every update keep it up!
The godSun HIMSELF has his eye on your MC…fortunately HE doesn’t know who you are or where you are. But HE knows you exist, in one form or another.
Consequences will be as a result of the choices you make.
Your MC can read and write.
I’m so happy this effect came across. It makes the writing a bit longer, since I do multiple variations of the same scene, but if you’re noticing the game adapt to the dominant personality you create, then it’s worth it!
As an open question…I wonder how everyone is finding the personality system? Do you feel it gives you a sense of freedom to craft your own unique character? Do the dialogue choices and the way they get presented feel satisfying?
A lot of what the next Chapter is going to be about is how you process the death of your mother, which can happen in a few different ways. As well as introducing the next batch of key characters. But we’ll explore the heartache, definitely.
Thank you! I’ll check that out
Yep, okay d&d-esque diety, great. I’ll chalk it up to mc being super duper doomed then.
That’s at least something, given the state of the village though I wonder when and how they learned, but it is perhaps the one thing making me slightly more optimistic about the mc’s chances…if they were up against a normal inquisition whose human weaknesses and above all their prejudices could be turned against them with the proper knowledge of how to do so.
Against an actual deity…I don’t know what chance a peasant kid stands, even if they can read and write.
Maybe, but I think my mc would be too busy surviving as an outlaw vagabond with next to no useful survival skills to properly deal with his grief. Doesn’t mean it magically goes and it may come back later to haunt him, assuming there is a later. But we see this in real people put in extreme situations under extreme duress all the time. They mostly seem fine as long as the situation last on a combination of adrenaliine, grit and survival instinct. It is if the situation ever gets more “comfortable” again that I would worry for my mc’s emotional state.
That’s a cool suggestion, I don’t mind since you’ll be meeting some of these key characters very soon. It would be interesting to hear any thoughts or opinions on them, and gauge the interest levels as I dig into the writing. For those who would prefer to meet this organically, I’ll keep it blurred.
So I have a few characters planned who I’d prefer to keep close to my chest for now, but there are three who you are about to meet.
- Wintriss: 17 years old. female. you encounter her in chapter 4. She is from the Windswept Lands, from Gailand specifically. She is a Caster, able to channel and control the five Threads of Nature with her Aura. When you meet her, she is only able to cast Skythread (a Skycaster) and is being taught to Windrun by her father, Tevye who was an Askari General in the Sundered War. Although she loves to dance, laugh and sing, she is a warrior at heart, and holds much resentment toward the Sunblessed Monarchies, the Kingdom of Temia and King Uthrell in particular. Her resentment comes from the loss of her brother, who was slain in the Gailish Genocide, when King Uthrell sent an army, aided by Sisters of the Sun, to kill all first born Gailish sons. She is antagonistic towards your Teller at first and you will need to prove yourself to her before she’ll accept you.
- Aphiwe: 19 years old. male. you encounter him in chapter 4. He is also a Caster, though he is a Watercaster, only able to Cast using Waterthread, he is particularly skilled at Casting ice. He is from the Seaborn Isles, and when you meet him, he’s on the run from the seaClave, who wanted him to be trained as a Prophet (their version of the Chosen Few, for the godSea). He is in search of adventure, and dreams of being a Shiplord with his own fleet one day, which is why he ran away from the rigid order of the clave. He has skill as a waterwalker (uses his icecasting to walk across), tidebringer (summons waves) and deck boy (sharp eyes). He is a rogue at heart, with a grey sense of morality, though at his core he wants to do good and be good, even if he doesn’t always make the best choices.
- Cyn: 24 years old. female. You encounter her in Chapter 4. A rebel and an idealist. Born in Amia, one of the Queendoms in the Sunblessed Monarchies, a Queendom that was destroyed in the Sundered War and remains a ruin. She cannot Cast, but she is an exceptionally skilled archer and healer, using natural herbs and remedies, as well as other strange gifts. She has strong leadership qualities, and cares deeply for the welfare of others, sometimes to her own detriment. When you meet her, she is part of a Jipsee Train heading to Hamlyn. It’s not clear what she really wants, but it is clear that she bear’s a deep love and sense of responsibility for the people around her. When you look closely, you can see that despite her young age, her eyes are old and tired. She is a fantastic singer, which she uses to raise morale on low days, though she is not yet very good at playing any instrument.
Oh! and Ehren and Aivah, both of them are a bit of a bait and switch in terms of being an RO. but that’s mainly because your MC is going to be separated from them for quite a while. It will be a long time before you see them again, and have the opportunity rekindle any old flames.
Barring Ehren and Avia they all seem so relatively important and most of all skilled, in comparison to the mc who can at best use a rusty dagger and cannot cast anything…well except maybe aspersions on the old man.
Or maybe they can but the mc suddenly doing magic can only come from one source and my mc already hates having to deal with the demon inside of him now. And the mc doing “magic” is likely akin to begging it for favours and channelling its demon powers.
Oh, I like it. I like sarcastic mc they’re fun. Although I think my mc is now well on his way to this trope. Nothing hides staggering insecurity, unprocessed grief and very real existential dread better than a veil of jocularity after all.
Pretty sure I’m well on my way to being one of those tropes
Is there save option or I just can’t find it
I can’t lie, I really enjoyed killing that Inquisitor. Not many games seem to offer choices that dark and graphic. Hopefully the game won’t shy away from choices like this in the future as well.
One thing though, there’s a lot of ingame fantasy terms thrown around and for first time players it can be a bit overwhelming, I hope a codex will eventually be implemented in future updates.
Yeah I think choosing you have feelings for Aivah in chapter 2 is bugged. Everytime I choose it when I talk to her in the bar she says she knows I don’t have feelings for her even though I chose I did.
@Cynical_Toaster Is that when you play the game from the beginning, or use the function to skip ahead to certain scenes?
Hey ya’ll thank you so much to everyone playing the game and finding enjoyment! This past month got a bit hectic for me, but rest assured that I am writing in the moments I’m able to spare. I can’t say rn when the next update will be, but definitely within the next 2/3 months. I want to add a nice sizable chunk of fresh content before posting another update. I’m noting the bugs that are being pointed out and really appreciate the feedback on that, I’ll squash those bugs as I find them in the code.
There is a codex in the game but I’ll be adding a lot more detail to it, especially in terms of the magic system, by the next update!
I did have a save system at one point but it became a bit buggy so I removed it. I’ll see about adding one in the next update, I see there are a few threads about implementing a save system so I’ll do some reading through those and see which one works best. It might not be there in the final game though, cause I know CoGs policy is against saving, but maybe Hosted Games are different, if you can justify it to them? Personally I quite like a save system, especially in a game like this where I really want to present tough choices that change the game and multiple paths. but I’ll be led by their regulations in the final game.
I quite Iike that trope! I’ll use as inspiration. To everyone else, feel free to suggest tropes you’d like your Teller to embody and I’ll see if I can make them work in my writing.
Both, I’ve tried having an attraction to her while just playing and just to confirm I skipped ahead and chose to have an attraction. And when at the tavern she says she knows I don’t feel the same way about her. It’s probably a bug then I assume?
Looks to me like you only get the option to hold hands intimately with her if you’re bi or homosexual.
Strange I thought she was interested in males, could be wrong though.
I look forward for when the buying is fixed, gotta buy Aviah that book
She has a crush on the MC no matter the gender so its a bug
