Seas of Aquobo (WIP, working title, previously named Modern Piracy) 4-28-15 update

I planned on giving the player choices for their base they can change it at different intervals in the game, and more become available as your power increases.
As for the submarine thing, I’ve already been mulling it over. I’ve been planning on implementing a stat that allows the player to stealthily approach ships, and if I can successfully balance it, submarines would pretty much have the best stealth stat. Maybe you should give CS another shot, it’s an easy language to learn compared to stuff like Java.

this sounds like a great idea and a game that I can not wait to play. Good luck

Nice! This sounds very original. Definitely following. Good luck!

Hmm…as with a lot of future features, I’ll have to think it over, but I might consider both for use in different situations.

Sorry I just have fond memories of it…
That reminds how much improvised weaponry do you think about? We run out of ammo sometimes and you can’t always hope for plastic bags, knives or bricks… and will we choose our weapons in general?

I was hoping to implement a system where you could designate a particular weapon as the standard for your normal crew, and you could buy it for the price times the number of ordinary crew on payroll.

Somalia coastal waters and Strait of Malacca have those. Other locations are just too ‘lean’ with loots. Madagascar Channel perhaps? Bay of Bengal and Sri Lanka can be good for starter too. Or just make a fictional world?

I’m hoping to make things happen in our world, question is still up to allow the player to expand to a global scale or not.

Global would make us known can we have the option to be an anonymous fleet ruler?

I’d like some more detail about what you mean, but PM me with any ideas you have, you sparked this idea after all.

throughout your journey, you will have a chance to recruit several specialists based on your choices. As for weapons used on pirates, I plan on doing extensive research (that seems to be the going theme for this game, lots of research before I can code the parts it’s needed for.)

Your co-founders and specialists recruited will most likely be ROs if I can work it in while keeping the story’s original tone.

well plenty of people like them, but while ROs are relevant to the game, if you want to talk about your hobbies and such it should probably be taken to PM.

Is this game going to be set on Earth or in a fictional world?

You did mention a lot of real countries, so I guess it is going to be an alternative version of Earth, right?

I second the privateer idea. It’s how many pirates back in the 18th century got their start and it makes more sense than just waking up one day and deciding to become a pirate.

I intend the MC to grow up in a village they choose. The gameplay as I current want to make it will include expanding your operations past the normal holdups. Privateering and mercenary work was something that was something I wanted to apply from the beginning. Also, I wasn’t accusing of talking about your hobbies on here, I was just saying let’s not let the thread turn to that.

@ballmot well it will be Earth, but due to fictional criminals I want to create, and to avoid being banned for including actual groups, the world will be slightly modified, but other than some extra outlaws and some situations that most likely wouldn’t happen (SPOILER seriously, the nuke hijacking I’ve been kicking around in my head would never happen by pirates.)

@Verand well in modern day pirates privateering might come later, but the main spawn of today’s pirates is when someone with a few thousand bucks teams up with some other founders to make more money. I wanted to try to show the rise from rags to riches kind of in the village, but if enough people want to be a privateer right off the bat, I’ll add it in as a choice.

@TechDragon610
You don’t really need to be rich to become a modern pirate, you just need to be kinda crazy, I guess.

AK-74 = 15$
Crew = Teenagers from a nearby village
Speedboats = Use your AK-74s to steal two of those from a random boat rentals place

So technically, a random guy from a poor village could become the leader of a huge pirate operation with enough luck.

(The privateer idea might work too.)

well considering that most pirates form bonds in their home community to the point that they are actually defended by the residents there, I don’t think stealing is a good way to start the relationship.

Oh well, it really depends, some pirates are feared, while others are seen as heroes, but from what I know, most of the equipment they use is usually stolen, unless you can find a way to make an alliance with arms dealers and other important people in your area.

Since reactions from the population are mixed, I’ll just make it so that they will protect you if you aid them and don’t kill or steal from them. But if you push them past a certain point, they may burn your hideout or report you.
