Samurai of Hyuga Book 5

I completely forgot about that, makes it even worse lol, also they still fell in love with them like you can’t even deny that the Ronin is important to them after that.

I understand what your saying. But if were being real about this,Tosh is pretty darn toxic there self as well. Lets remember that part of the reason why the Ronin ends up attacking Tosh so many times, is that they keep lying to them. That doesn’t make the physical abuse justified, but its a far cry from someone like Jun/ko who simply would attack the Ronin because they didn’t want to be with them anymore. Tosh and the Ronin both have there issues because they are incredibly flawed people. Tosh and her absolute loyalty to the emperor, causes them to lie and deceive the person they supposedly love. The Ronin on the other hand has a violent temper, especially so after being tortured and having a mental breakdown, which causes them to violently lash out when they feel hurt, even with the people they love. They are both pretty darn unhealthy for each other when you think about it. The only thing I’m hoping is that, they eventually can move past those issues, and become a stronger couple.

Toxic? Maybe that’s a stretch too far… Tosh’s behavior is definitely flawed and repeatedly so, but maybe not to the level of toxicity… In this specific instant Tosh doesn’t know what to make out of the message and intends to protect the Ronin even if the emperor supposedly wants them eliminated. But Tosh is also proud and doesn’t have a habit of working with other people, so they try to solve it on their own first. Flawed, but not toxic. And come on, if someone was kinda a lying bitch and their partner beat them for it… Yeah, it’s not exactly symmetrical, is it?
And Jun was genuinely thinking that the Ronin was a predator and that fueled their rage significantly. So it’s a proper mess. Everyone is a proper mess here. Except for Hatch, he is just a himbo, bless him.

It honestly isn’t really a stretch to call it toxic though, If someone in a relationship continues to lie to you repeatedly, even when they have said they would stop. What would you call it? The Ronin feels hurt and manipulated by Tosh’s actions. Tosh has also lied to the Ronin plenty of times even before book 5. You can say they were doing it for the greater good, but it still doesn’t change how betrayed the Ronin feels because of there actions. Also your reasoning, for Tosh not showing the message to the Ronin doesn’t really add up. Because even though Tosh can be proud at times. They are still very submissive and subservient to a least two people. Those being the Ronin and Satsuma. So Tosh keeping that information from the Ronin has nothing to with being proud. And I have already said that in no way is the physical abuse justified. However, that also goes for Tosh as well, who you could argue always ends up indirectly manipulating the Ronin to help Satsuma. So yes, while you could say it isn’t symmetrical, we still shouldn’t downplay how both parties feel hurt for the others actions. Even Tosh feels guilty for lying to the Ronin. As for Jun/ko this isn’t true really at all, even before when the Ronin and Jun/ko were in a relationship, Jun/ko would often be verbally and physically abusive to the Ronin. They even go as far to try and kill them when the Ronin tried to leave the relationship. Lets not even get into the whole various sexual assault/rape, and overly obsessive behavior Jun/ko displays toward the Ronin. Jun/ko’s relationship with the Ronin isn’t comparable at all to how Tosh and the Ronin are. For the simple fact that the Ronin would never try force Tosh to stay with them against there will.

You know what should be Ronin’s spirit animal?

Yes.

It seems the level of self-blame, despairing and apologizing to everyone has reached a new level in this book - this killed all my joy of reading. It was too much, I’m tired of how much “MC” is set in their behavior.

Apart from the depressing Ronin, the book was rather boring and monotonous most of the time (I should be glad it wasn’t as weird as book 4, but… :weary:). Maybe that’s my impression because the main goal was to save the kid - the most annoying character in SoH series, imao. I don’t really care about their fate, I literally rolled my eyes every time MC went into protective/possessive mode. Ugh. Ah, can’t forget the pretentious and malicious comments of imaginary Masashi. I preferred imaginary Jun’s voice :skull: everything better than the kid!

Tosh… another disappointment. I won’t say that I didn’t feel hurt and betrayed after what he said (although I’m trying to understand him. Somehow). But once again MC’s set attitude pisses me off - why do they have to act like everything’s alright and make up so easily?! I’m sick of the emperor and that stupid mission of his.

Now, ladies and gentlemen and others…the worst thing, worse even than demons, zombies, Jun/ko and hell itself!

BOOK 6, AND MC IS STILL ILLITERATE!!

My bookworm heart is bleeding.

Okay, enough complaining, I already proved to myself that these games are not for me. Even though I once read books 1-3 and actually loved them. Even though I still have some fondness for my perverted and crude Ronin with Scandinavian name

The ending, I must admit, interested me so much that I will probably want to follow this series to the end. Ugh, I guess, I have to say I hate SoH and love it at the same time. Strange games.

As much as a cliffhanger that ending was this book answered a lot of questions and my personal favorite that I think people are sleeping on is it answered why we even took the job in the the first place to bodyguard some noble kid after playing assassin. And oh boy, that’s rough. Knowing that, it makes the ronin’s over reaction to tosh calling us dangerous to the kid all the way in book one make sense.

Lol i agree :sob:I have mixed feeling after reading the book. This had gone to a new level of torture I have never expected most of my friends will die. The mc felt like shit And I felt that this is getting crazier and humiliating. The mc can’t do anything alone and weak so different than how they singlehandedly killed shiroyama and the baron. efter reading the book I don’t know if I should be happy or sad about it, I just know that I have to wait another 3 long years for the next book and I realized that this book will not end sooner than I expected which is a good thing I just wish that the time skip is in the next book. Also in the book 5 you accomplished nothing, couldn’t defeat the silent lady, couldn’t save masami either, the mc just returned from the hell with a mental disorder and the book was about returning to your old self and now you get body swapped facing another demon. Don’t get me wrong okay, Im not saying that I don’t like this book cause this was one of my fave book along with infinity series, I just voiced my concern cause it felt like I can’t sleep if I don’t voice them out.

At a certain point, I kind of have to wonder why you guys keep buying the books if you hate them so much… You say the Ronin’s set attitude pisses you off, yet the Ronin has had a set attitude that you could slightly modify since book 1. Also, you aren’t really even doing the Emperors mission in this one, as your main objective is to save Masa. I mean you can indirectly help with the Emperors mission. But considering how things turn out in book 5. The Ronin mostly ends up doing there own thing.

I mean, why wouldn’t they still be illiterate? I very much doubt that the Ronin would have had any time at all to learn how to read. Considering all the shit that is going down in this book.

The Ronin has plenty of badass moment’s though out the book. Even in the first few early chapters, they mostly have been doing stuff alone. Also, you are blatantly wrong about the Ronin when it comes to there battles with shiroyama and the baron. In both those cases the Ronin had help. And they wouldn’t have been able to defeat them on there own. One of main growths for the Ronin’s character is learning that they don’t need to do things alone. Its been of one the key themes of this series since book 1.

Not really true either, You do end up saving Masami. It just ends up coming with a price. So the Ronin does end completing the main thing they set out to do.

I don’t think we know for sure if we did save Masa. Like they were caught by the spirit, they might have stayed in the spirit world. And maybe the Ronin’s body will be inhabited by that mountain spirit since it’s been looking for a vessel. And somehow a timeskip should fashion into all of that. Can I have one of those to have the book 6 already?

I might need to replay it again. But I was sure that Tosh pretty much tells you that the Ronin is sleeping, but I ended up getting the indication that they would wake up. So yes in a manner of speaking I do think masa is safe, due to it being a body swap. I’m not sure how the demon is going fit into it though.

Yeah… I mean, Book 1 I would understand but… this is Book 5 already… It’s a bit depressing trying to interact with other “fans” and seeing all the hate tbh.

I mean, we see our body drooling, but that’s it, I think. I wasn’t sure then and I’m not sure now, I might be wrong.

Maybe that’s a bit like me reading Doctor Zhivago. Like I can appreciate how masterfully it’s done but holy shit why this harem self-insertion Tolstoy’s philosophy fanfiction even exists. Some wrecks are too magnificent to turn away, you know. And SoH is surely magnificent. And maybe a bit of a wreck. Well, at least everybody in there is. Except for Hatch, bless him.

To be honest with you, I could even understand maybe quitting after Book 4, for those reasons. Considering it ends up becoming very apparent at that point, that the Ronin is mostly there own character and that they are pretty much following a linear path that is there own story. But yes, I agree with you that the hate can be depressing. Constructive criticism, and even different opinions are always great to see. But people complaining about the same things that have been a staple of this series since the beginning, start to become so tiresome to see…

I think they were drooling because there sleeping, I mean wasn’t Masa in a comatose state before the Ronin went into the sprit world? I think the fact that the Ronin was drooling was a good sign. But we honestly cant know for sure. I’m still going go out on a limb, and say Masa is alright.

The scene where she picks the emperor, there is no hitting involved except when you burst into the room thinking she’s trying to kidnap Masa (because of the letter: that’s also when you confront her about the contents of the letter) and she once again outwrestles and puts you in an arm lock till you literally beg her to let you go.
The choking scene is when she lists the names of the children you ate (She continues and finishes despite the fact that you start choking her from the first name)
I’m not justifying MC’s violence on Toshie or saying it’s ok because of it but it’s implied that Tosh “lets it happen” as opposed to being “powerless” to stop it happening. It’s like the scene in book 2 when you get angry with her in the middle of shogi and your supporters carry her away. She is said to be smiling throughout the scene, Maybe she has a BDSM fetish🤔?
