Samurai of Hyuga Book 5

I’m guessing that this scene is different and depends on the Ronin traits you have. I had the brutal trait, So my Ronin didn’t beg Toshi. They pretty much just powered out of it with the jigoku and elbowed them. I also remember my Ronin being much more violent with Toshi when they were listing the names. My Ronin started slamming Toshi on the floor until they drew blood.

I truly believe that Hatch is a shounen protagonist in a seinen setting and as much as i love our adorable himbo sometimes i wish he could just isekai into a world where soh is an actual shounen and everything could be solved with the power of friendship :pensive:

I think he’s starting to finally grow up

There’s a lot of valid criticism to be had on this thread. The less-valid criticism and those I see after each and every release, involve a fundamental design decision in the Samurai of Hyuga series. I’m talking about the relation between the player (you) and the game.

This is a first-person perspective story. You are roleplaying (getting in the “skin” of) the protagonist who is a badass and troubled ronin living in a fantasy world. They are an established, fictional character which you’re experiencing the game through. “You”, the player, aren’t in the game.

I understand that this dynamic is unlike practically every other choicegame in existence. That’s why I have a lot of sympathy for choicegame fans who struggle with this series. But with these many years into SoH, I would expect readers to either accept SoH as it is, or accept that it isn’t for them.

It’s a big compliment that those who struggle with or just plain dislike “playing pretend” as a main character who isn’t them are still reading. But I don’t want them to suffer any sort of anguish–nor do I wish to continue to hear about their anguish after every release. I hope they understand that.

It was 2017 when I first read this series and since then I’ve been a fan of CoG games, this game is one of the best I have ever read. I have never ever hated this game and no matter what happens I will always appreciate the hard work of our author, my comment earlier was just some of my concerns but I will never hate this game.

Great ride. Well written, I enjoyed it. Now I’m going to sink into depression that I don’t have a sequel.

Personally it’s the contrary.
I think it slightly becomes my favorite serie because the MC got a personnality, is depressed, have flaws, and you have to deal with it.
It’s really a breath of fresh air compare with other books in Hosted games.

You have the right to be unhappy, to say why, and at the end stopping ou continuing the book.

But some people here want to change what the author is doing or made “recommandations”, that’s not fair.

You don’t like it ? Discuss here, and then enjoy other games.

Now that I finished the game, I have to ask.

Could it be that I once played a demo where Tosh was a eunuch and Masashi died at the end but then he talked to my samurai in his head? I had a feeling while playing that some parts were familiar to me, and now I don’t know if I really read it or if I just dreamed about it and it’s bothering me.

Hell yeah good thing that our classes already started lol, i need to forget that I have to wait another 3 years :sob:

I wonder why have problem with this book? I think it’s excellent work and Ronin’s situation can understandable.

Hey-o, major fan of the SoH series. But after replaying all 5 books a few times ((i dont like premade characters, 5’s version was good. But, it looks like it randomizes some of the smaller choices)). After doing this i realized theres one type of route you cant take, and one i woild very much enjoy doing.

One where the MC is just tired of the petty mission snd begins to genuinely start to dislike his companions. Hatch can be annoying, but is a guy with a giant heart; but him preventing you from ((and this is gonna sound cruel)) killing the kid in the tournament could have stirred up resentment.

You can sorta/kinda start to dislike the emperor, but meh. You can actually hate Junko. Momoko you cant have the MC hate anywhere, despite peddling opium ((before you even met, even if against her will)) for years. Just forgiven.

But if there’s one character i want my MC to be able to hate its TOSHIE. I mean, dont get me wrong i love Toshie lol. But i want my MC to be able to hate her, but you just keep apologizing to her; kinda makes the MC seem like a pushover. Like, she manipulates you THROUGH THE WHOLE SERIES. But all you can do is “Im so sorry i was rude, Toshie.” Like WHAT, she would have gotten clapped by my Ronin. Brutal nature, Fam. Take your claps.

Also, put of curiosity if the author ever reads this, i have one question i just need answered: Why do we get some weird spirit animals? Swallow makes sense, snake yep, boar yep, monkey yep, dog i guess, Aligator is legit. But then you went rogue! Giant Salamander, Spider Crab, Chipmunk, firefly. Junko can be a wolf, but were a Shiba Inu. :sob: Also, side note, would have been super cool if each spirit had their own technique; kinda like what you did with the spirit armor.

This is a bit unrelated but i was wondering if any of you has a playlist for reading this series for some reasons i literally can’t read anything without fitting music playing it makes everything much more impactful to me lol i highly highly recommend “Take you down” by Illenium and “Hope in front of me” by Danny Gokey i swear they just fit the ronin so much :sob: If anyone has a recommendation of their own i’d love to hear them!

Bwahh how am I supposed to endure the suspense until Book 6 :scream::scream::scream::scream: Amazing work, as always.:heart: Hope my ronin is out of Masashi’s body ASAP bc I got used to staring at MCs portrait just about every five seconds (and want him back to his hot self :sweat_smile::sweat_smile:). Also I hold out hope for saving Jun from hell bc yeah.

I listen to LiSA mostly! She has songs that fit most moods: sad, badass, romantic, light-hearted, etc. Just pass the songs until you find the one that fits the part that you’re reading:

Totally agree with the hating our companions’ bit. Like I’m in love with this series with book 4 being my controversial favorite of all fucking time, but this book was so meh for me. Throughout the whole story, the internal dialogue between Masa and mc was very annoying and made me dislike them, but hey I get it. It’s an important part of the story, but what I deeply despised was that all of a sudden mc and Tosh are just… in love now. To be fair I did try and get into the pants of any available ro in the previous books but that was before reading book 4 and completely falling in love with Jun/ko’s character. So imagine my surprise when now that they’re gone mc’s just like “Jun/ko who? I’ve always hated that cyka?” I thought it was very weird that mc just switched up like that and there was no choice asking “hey does this character still do it for you or no” cause I definitely would’ve said no in chapter zero for Tosh & Momoko, but since I initiated it in the previous books mc’s just like “yup these are the women I love and Jun/ko’s dead fuck them” (which is also weird bc I made sure not to click any dialogue choices that confessed love for Tosh and Momoko but that were more one-night stand-y?). I wish mc could hate Tosh not even for hiding shit about the Emporer, but for not being honest in book 3 about mc’s past and instead chose to purposely ignore the fact that mc wanted to know who tf cut them up. Tosh is just like “I dunno that’s crazy tho… anyway wanna love me??” which is enough for me at least to despise them for the rest of the series. Guess I’m going back to book 2 to not pick any form of intimacy with Momoko and Tosh to see if that changes the results in book 5 at all. All in all: This game is wicked cool :upside_down_face:

I just started the series, and I really like it! I’ve only read the first one, so I’m not going to stick around for too long. I was just wondering if there was a list or a guide or something for the RO’s? I like to romance all the male RO’s at least once, so I like having a checklist :joy:

If I may, I think what the writer want us to read is that our MC has been broken. I don’t want to give spoilers, but all that stress, the revelation of Jigoku, watching Jun/ko went to Hell (MC’s long time friend/rival/love interest), Masami and everything that has been happening for a year (?) and 4 book, has truly broke our MC.

And so, in their lowest moment, I feel that knowing that people still think highly of the MC (the sacrifices MC’s companion made) and could still be in love with the MC, is the perfect cure for our MC’s self hate and despairs.

In this series, if you’re still looking for RO’s, then I don’t think this is for you. This series is a ronin/samurai’s journey upon destruction in mankind, we watch all the characters grow and dies in all chained events, seen in MC’s perspective.

Male love interests so far: Jun and Toshio. I think Kohaku is also considered one? But I wouldn’t call him a RO, at least not yet. You can also have fun with the Baron, Roderico, but not a romance.
