Samurai of Hyuga Book 5

I had thought that at first, but you can still give the player choice. The Ronin should be unhinged with what they had gone through, however, if the Ronin was more of an unreliable narrator that would have solved all the problems. Having it nullify the choices you make with explanations just hurts it further. This felt like I was stuck watching the character when I wanted to alter and shape the character to what I was going for. Again this issue is rooted in all the games, I just hope that the author expands that aspect as I feel it’s important for a CYOA.

Hahaha, yeah shaping my character in CYOA is what I deeply love about them. Spot on with this comment, got a chuckle outta me

You can shape your character though. Personality wise, they can be entirely different, even if the plot itself is still the same. Sometimes, how the main character reacts to the events surrounding them can be more important than the events themselves, as long as it’s well written

Not really. It’s more Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher games more than anything else.

I mean, there are deserts and prairies, and grizzlies, and coyotes, and native people in buckskins… I just need to know how Japanese people made the vikings hold their beer so, like what fuckery has happened, I need answers, goddamn it!

I understand, it’s maybe one of the few COG where the MC is suffering through the entire book. You can control what he said but not really how he acted because it’s the other characters who act, and not him.

And due to his spirit nearly broken it’s quite a mess.

Personally, I find it so refreshing.

You can role play fine, just because you don’t make choices for every single thing doesn’t mean it’s not. You are role playing a character and have choices that are in the realm of what that character would do and say in that situation. This has been the case since book 1 and hasn’t changed.

It is valid criticism, but the style won’t change. It’s been 5 books already. SoH won’t suddenly change in the last 2. Criticism is all well and good, but if the mechanics of a series didn’t work for you the first FIVE books, maybe it’s time to look for games with mechanics you like and stop repeating the same criticism over and over in every book when you have to know it won’t change.

No, it’s the same email.

Is attunement is still important?

Hi @Kimotski
You could try sending an email to support@choiceofgames.com informing them about the saves. Worst comes to worst, you might have to read every thing again to create another save.

@Harian
No, as far as I’m aware unless you want to see 100 attunement in your stat page. I’m not sure in future books though.

It really isn’t a decent point. I’m genuinely starting to understand and sympathize with the authors frustrations. They have clarified multiple times, that the Ronin isn’t a blank slate character, and they already have a established background and relationships. Yet, We still keep getting “haters” or I don’t even know what to call them at this point. That have to keep making the same argument BUT WHAT ABOUT MUH ROLEPLAY! Like its an intentional design feature that I and many others enjoy. If it bothered you that much, then you probably should of stopped playing these after book 1 Especially after book 4, if it was that much of on an issue. Now if they had a problem with the writing or didn’t like the character’s. Then fair play to them. But for people to keep having the same annoying criticism about a unique feature that has been there since book 1, even going as far to tell them that they should change it, even though were almost two books from being finished, is just quite frankly ridiculous. It just comes across as being overly entitled.

What your interpreting as a “glaring problem” is mainly a personal problem that you have. As like I have said, the author has already stated that the way the Ronin acts and responds to certain situations is by there own design supposed to be intentional. It has been that way since book 1. So, instead of hoping that the author changes there own personal writing style to fit what you want, why don’t you just play other CYOA games that fit your preference. Cause I can tell you right now, that the odds of the author changing things up this close to the finish line are very slim. Were literally at book 5 at this point. Its more then possible that this series just isn’t for you.

Naw, the only one who is mad in there feelings is you guys, who cant respect the Authors personal choices when it comes to there writing style. I like how you edited your comment to be even more passive aggressive about it. Nobody is upset over people criticizing the series. Its because the criticism itself isn’t genuine that is the problem. Its super annoying at this point.

On the other hand, please stay away from Masa and Tosh and everyone else as far as possible, please and thank you
(But it’s gonna be absolutely glorious when Jun/ko is back, you know it will be, I can’t wait)

Me three :sob: Book 4 was my favorite and after being with Jun 24/7 I had some nasty withdrawal symptoms in Book 5… And I don’t even think we’ll meet them again until the last installment so probably Book 6 will be more of the same :sob:

Out of curiosity, does the charm Jun/ko buys for us reappear in the book 5, do we know what it is for? (I kinda suspect that it’s for fertility, but who knows)

Nope

Can verify that the charm doesn’t seem to appear when I checked the code. It either lost during the battle in hell or when you got captured by the Silent Lady’s men.

Damn, I kinda hoped it’s gonna be some plot point since it’s relevant in the recap. Maybe next book or smth.
