Samurai of Hyuga Book 3 (Patreon/Early Access info on Post 1297!)

Unfortunately, they aren’t canon anymore. It’s okay because the games stiffed you when you tried to play as them anyway.

I think the MC does still have feelings for Jun/ko, and that is supported by the text. I mean, there is a connection. But how they still feel about Jun after they finally meet again is another matter…hopefully we will be able to make those choices when the time comes.

I think the MC just realized erasing Jun erased a lot of other important things about themselves too…he/she believes now they are no use to anyone like that.

From the way I see it, people will interpret the ending of SoH 3 based on how they played the game. Some people might interpret it that their Ronin might be looking for Jun/ko in order to save them out of love or pity. While others will just want to hunt them down due to what happen to Masashi before etc etc. So there is really no right or wrong answer for this one.

I have to agree with @harmonia that as much as we want to erase our past, it is still part what we are right now. What we decide to do now is what important. On how we will change for better. That is why I am excited for Book 4 because we will be exploring our past since right now my Ronin is like a lost sheep trying to find themselves and what they are really fighting for. She can’t deny that she have “loved” Jun/ko before but for her, its all over. There are might be lingering feelings there but overall, she just want to see if Jun/ko as part of her life.

One thing also, I want to see that we get to confront why our friends lied to us. I know they meant well but a lie is a lie. My Ronin felt betrayed but hopefully by the end of Book 4, she will forgive them.

And by the end of the series, I just want my Ronin to be happy with Tosh and rest of the gang have their own happy endings. Well that was I hoping anyway.

That’s what I really like about the interactive stories we are all getting different feels from our playthroughs.

I would like to say something to the others over the whole not telling about Jun/ko but I get why they hid it. I think they genuinely believed it was for the better. While we don’t know I feel it was Toshio’s idea (maybe not), he seems like the type to notice first and Masashi agreeing due to his experience with Jun. Maybe Hatch just followed the wisdom of the other two.

Also if romancing Tosh I wonder if there is not some personal reasons to his motivation for not telling MC about Jun. With MC feelings still lingering for the other, if he/she doesn’t remember them then there is no worries for Toshio that the Ronin could choose Jun over him. It also seems like there is an unrequited love there for the Emperor and he can’t be with him so maybe Toshio has extra determination not to lose a chance at love with the Ronin.

Maybe Masashi doesn’t know about MC’s memories of Jun being erased? He says we’re BAKKAS! and gets angry when we try to write Jun’s name. At the moment, I thought Masashi thought MC knew exactly who Jun was, and therefore, that “joke” of asking how to write it was in bad taste. He’s mature when he wants, so he wouldn’t get angry at us if he knew we didn’t remember. I think Tosh is the mastermind here, sneaky little ninja… and Hatch is following orders and hoping for the best

Oh I do think Tosh is the mastermind but Masashi out right lies to MC if asked who’s sword is this after it fails to cut the grass. “I am no swordsmith and one sword looks no different than the other to me. I do not know how you came across that weapon.” I think they had meeting without MC and agreed not to tell them.

I still get the feeling that Masashi knows about it. Tosh might be sneaky but they would confide such plan to Masa.

@Pixelf in regards to Tosh, that would be great if this would be part of their real confession to the MC.

I hope Toshio feelings for the Emperor is explored in more detail later. Maybe we can go the wedding.

As much as it hurt to say, it would be nice to be explored. When I saw that one paragraph, I just heard my Ronin’s heart cracked. :sob:

@resuri08, yeah I did get the sense they were just trying to protect the group and the MC by lying about Jun… it’s just that it wasn’t that simple. The Baron couldn’t erase Jun, without erasing a big part of the MC’s identity, including how to fight. And the new identity the MC had been building since then wasn’t enough to save Ige… so MC lost faith in it. That was how I read the situation.

Oh, and I agree it seems like Toshio’s idea. He kept saying stuff like “focus”, “be present”, “let go of the past”, etc. He comments about the MC being happier and smiling more afterward. But Masashi is a bit of a trickster sometimes with his fake spells, and would go along with it for sure.

There is also a moment between Masashi and MC where MC is wanting to know how Masashi got his neck scar.
(You get this if you pair with Nishi during training)

MC: “Why can’t I remember you getting hurt? What’s wrong with me?”
Masashi: “Toshio-san was correct, after all. The Baron must have erased that person from your mind completely”.

So he is definitely in on it.

Assuming Jun/Junko gets a redemption arc (and joins the group) how will the character dynamics work when she cut out Momoko’s tongue and nearly decapitated Masami/Masashi?

I can see people’s MC’s being accepting of Jun/Junko, but the MC’s friends? That will take some masterful writing for them to all become buddy, buddy. Especially in regards to Momoko.

The other characters don’t have the same background that the Ronin does with Jun/Junko so I hope that if the author goes the redemption route that the people Jun/Junko maimed don’t suddenly become bff’s with him/her.

I wouldn’t expect them to become all buddy like and I think that it could add interesting tension if they didn’t.
It could also provide character growth for Jun/ko and challenge the others on perspectives of right and wrong.

Our MC did a lot of bad things but the group is very accepting of them because MC is one of them. MC just hasn’t done the bad things to them. So with Jun/ko I get the wrongs are much more personal but I don’t think Jun/ko joining the party would be impossible to write well.
Either way this is all conjecture so we don’t know what is going to happen or how anything like this would be handled.

Then there the issue of Junko being built up as a demon we have to slay…so yeah.

I’ve been wondering how the General Shatao was alive when he met Jun/ko so your theory has a high probability of being true.

That and Junko expicitly stated they would become a demon…can’t really get more explicit  . Which would explain why Devon always said they wanted to build to the confrontation. It seems fitting enough not only do we kill a demon of the list, we kill a demon of the past.

I don’t ever recall the MC doing something such as cutting a kids neck open, or removing tongues.
Correct me if I’m wrong.

The MC is a bad person, but Jun/Junko is on another level and feels zero remorse for what they do. There’s a reason why she/he was better at the Hell Release then the MC.

I’m okay with her/him getting redemption, but if they receive it then I hope the author finds a way to magically give Momoko her tongue back.

There’s absolutely NO reason why Momoko should continue suffering if Jun/Junko gets a free pass.

Thank you!
While the MC did horrible things, they did so mostly out of survival. Junko meanwhile, was stated to be pycho before and is still unrepentant.
If Junko gets off Scott free, it would go against the theme of not running from your crimes or mistakes.

Throwing in my two sense here but i actually do hope we have an option for jun/kos redemption something akin to zuko’s in atla if it could be possible afterall the road to redemption is not an easy one but is a very powerful story to tell when done right…

Yeah but the point is Zuko still had a road. He was in no way as bad as Junko.
