Relics of the Lost Age (WIP) - Submitted, demo removed

Maria?

Almost surely. Maybe there’s another Kurtz situation where one of the Nazis turns out to not be so bad, but it’s probably Maria. I, for one, am interested to see if the villain’s comeuppance will be Indiana-style, where their death is largely their own doing.

I should say that the Endgame is nowhere near as long as one of the main chapters, so my speed on this isn’t as impressive as it sounds!

I’m making even faster progress than I thought. It is frickin’ scary how close to done this thing is now …

FINAL UPDATE

Oh yeah. The last update of the beta draft has gone live! Just over 350k words without code.
Get off the damn boat! Take righteous revenge on some nasty, nasty people! Stop the Nazis’ sinister plots and save the world! Get to the bottom of the mysteries of the Relics! It’s all here, it’s all happened, and it’s done.

You can skip straight to the Endgame from the end of the Prologue, as usual. Just a special note for those who are continuing with saved characters: because I’m a dumbass, I forgot to track a couple of things that are important to the Endgame in the earlier versions of the game. So, uniquely for this section, you will have to answer a couple of quick questions on your game as you move from Chapter 6 to the Endgame. Sorry about that!

As always, any and all feedback will be appreciated. In a day or two I’ll probably post some specific questions about the game that I’d particularly like people’s perspectives on, but not tonight. Tonight I’m going to drink a huge quantity of whiskey and watch back-to-back episodes of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air until my eyes bleed, which is the only way I know how to celebrate completing my draft in lockdown.

Thanks so much for all your comments so far. Keep them coming!

EDIT: Also, I plan to take the demo down in 2-3 weeks and submit to HG, so if you want to get to the end, make sure you do so in that time-frame.

I wasn’t involved with Esme or shown interest with her also my character was single.

How odd. Let me take a look.

EDIT: I think something must have gone wrong with a long chain of if / elseif statements at the start of the Epilogue. Should be able to fix it soonish.

Great can’t wait. Also after this chapter with Maria, Chloe who? Next book should be fun.

OK, I think I fixed it. I just did a speed-run through with a single character, and it goes to the right place now.

It’s a shame it didn’t work for you, as the “single” epilogue is actually, IMO, a really nice scene!

I’m still getting it even restarted from the beginning.

OK, that’s a headscratcher. I’ll take another look.

EDIT: I literally don’t know how that could possibly be happening! The code shouldn’t let you access the Esme epilogue unless the “Esme relationship” stat has been ticked.

Also, I can’t seem to replicate it. Could other players with single MCs please keep an eye on this and let me know if you get the wrong epilogue too?

Here’s the problem.

*if epilogue != 6
    [...]
    *if epilogue = 1
        *page_break
        *goto rejoin1
    *elseif epilogue = 2
        *page_break
        *goto rejoin2
    *elseif epilogue = 3
        *page_break
        *goto rejoin3
    *elseif epilogue = 4
        *page_break
        *goto rejoin4
    *elseif epilogue = 5
        *page_break
        *goto rejoin5
    *else
        *page_break
        *goto rejoin6
*label rejoin1

[Esme's epilogue]

You set epilogue to 6 if Spillane is single, but all your *gotos are under an *if statement that requires epilogue to not be 6. So it just drops into the first rejoin scene—Esme’s. I believe simply unindenting the block of *gotos should fix the problem.

Oh crap! I don’t even know why I did that!

Thanks so much. I must have been looking in the complete wrong place.

EDIT: Yeah, that’s the problem. When I was looking at the code trying to fix it earlier, I was looking at the start of the Epilogue, where you go to the correct part, not later, where you rejoin. Fixed now. Thanks so much!

Why I got emotional seeing two of my fav WIPs authors support each other? This is so nice.

Ouch… Lol somehow lost the saved data…

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. I had to mess with the Startup file a lot this time, which might have wiped saves.

Reember, you can skip to the start of different chapters from the end of the Prologue, so you wouldn’t need to start from the beginning to get back to where you were.

Oh no, Lol this story is interesting enough to replay couple more times without it getting on my nerves…

I supported oppressed like efé every chance I got, but everytime it shows the same… That I favour the powerful…

If you send the relics to the colonist, you will support the powerful. Your stats are pretty high, so that is what must have happened.
