"Relics of the Lost Age" Post-Release Discussion Thread

I don’t think the question is how does the player know he died, as much as how does the MC know what happened to him.

Presumably the MC somehow found out later. It’s a fairly minor detail if he did actually die, after all.

Can anyone help with these achievments please.

Objection!: Think like an ace attorney

The Better Angels of Our Nature: Save a troubled ally from his own worst instincts

Calling Dr. Jones: Find and quote five iconic lines from a certain classic movie franchise.

Under the sea - ?

Objection! : You need to find evidence that Winton Elliot couldn’t have stolen the amulet. There’s writing at the crime scene, but you know that Elliot is illiterate, because he signed the register at the police station with an x. So when the game asks you for your definitive evidence, you need to select “precinct”, “register”, “crime scene” and “written message”.

The Better Angels of our Nature: You need to talk Zhu out of going after the Colonel in Chapter 6, and persuade him to go after the Relic with you instead. To succeed, you need a high relationship stat with Zhu, and there are a few other things that make it easier. Being in a relationship with Zhu makes it a lot easier; having high Charm makes it a lot easier; having moderate Charm makes it a bit easier; telling Zhu in the conversation the previous night that he should be loyal to his friends makes it a bit easier.

Calling Dr. Jones: You need to quote five lines from the Indiana Jones films. There are more than five in there. Ones I can remember offhand include “Don’t call me Junior!” (chapter 2), “It’s not the years, honey, it’s the mileage” (Interlude); “They’re digging in the wrong place!” (Chapter 4); “We’re here to inspect the tapestries” (Chapter 5); “It belongs in a museum!” (Chapter 5). I think there are one or two others too.

Under the Sea: At the very end, don’t fight Schneider. Let him use the Most High console and see what happens!

Hi all, can you still get cleo if you decide not to flirt at the dinner and stay professional?

In one I think the four romances are Zoo, Cleo, ezmay and Abdul if I’m correct.

Yep, you don’t need to flirt with her at the dinner

Hi all,

Started playing this game recently and really loving the game a lot. I was just wondering is there best skills to match certain specialities so for example if I select survivor is there certain skills I’m better off choosing in the first chapter going onto the ship in order to make survivor the strongest it can be or does that element not matter?

That is good to know as I want to go with professional as much as possible in one play through. Also for people struggling with saving steevo you need to really be a survivalist as you need to make him comfortable etc. I left him when I wanted to save Zoo but thanks to looking at answers on this forum now I know it does not make a difference I’m never being that selfish and leaving him again.

The thing about Survivalist in particular is that it sometimes duplicates other skills, specifically sneaking/subterfuge. There will be a lot of times where you want to sneak and you’ll get options like “I’m good at being sneaky! (Sneak Skill!)” and “I’ve spent years hunting and know how to move quietly. (Survivalist)” and they both have the same outcome of “you successfully sneak”.

This means that, perhaps counter-intuitively, I think it’s ‘better’ not to learn a lot of stealth if you have Survivalist as your specialty just because they often double up this way.

At the moment in this play through I’m mainly focusing on reactions and athletics and I’m a survivor. Just on chapter three and managed to get it write about proving Elliott did not do it. Really love this game and the different types of MC you can play. I’m going to try and RO Cleo in this play through although want to make sure my professional stat is not damaged to much.

What’s the best way to get the worst ending for the congo chapter? I keep trying to fail but I end up succeeding every time.

I’m assuming you’re trying to fuck up the battle with the Germans here. First, you need to make sure you didn’t execute the Belgium prisoners earlier. Next, you need to focus on defense plans based around your worst stats before the actual fight. This would mean doing stuff like setting up snipers with low shooting, failing to convince the Belgium prisoners to join you with low charm or the wrong personality type, that sort of thing. send Cleo alone to the south gate, when the fight starts, pick the choice that corresponds to one of your worst stats when it asks you what you’re going to do during the fight itself. The initial barrage with the grenades is something you can’t go out of your way to botch that easily, but when it comes to the dudes in the trucks, make sure to shoot at them with low shooting, and then the gates should fall. When Cleo asks for Southgate reinforcements, don’t give any, continue on with the fight. When the fight is back to the main square, set off the machine gun. Oh, and try not to die. If everything works as planned, Cleo should be Dead, Sam should be badly wounded, and you shouldn’t be much better off either, and look like a colossal idiot to boot

As a refinement on the excellent advice above, perhaps don’t send Cleo alone to the South gate. You want the south gate to have the weakest possible leadership, to make sure that it falls ASAP. That means sending Jeff alone. Everything else in there is solid though!

Also, if you want Sam to be badly wounded, you need to keep the machine gun on the balcony of the headquarters, so don’t move it to the walls. When things are getting really bad inside the compound, you can signal to Kurtz to open fire with the machine gun even though it might mean hitting your own people. That’s how to get Sam wounded!

Right, forgot the south gate had its own leader ship factor. Now that I think about it, I feel like this was a missed opportunity for another achievement, the game does award you for screwing up miserably in other circumstances like during the museum chase in chapter 5 and the museum robbery in the second game so this could’ve been a good place to put one as well

So having replayed the game multiple times, I have come to a very odd conclusion:

The game is excellent. I love the puzzles, lore and character interactions. But there is one aspect that I found myself absolutely hating:

The casino.

I get it. The casino isn’t weighted to let you win. However, most of the time whenever I went through the casino, I found myself losing money more than winning it. It absolutely ruins the pacing of the game for me as I spent more time clawing my way through tedious small bets rather than enjoying the story. At the end of the day, other than showing up with a stack of 100 to do a con with Maria, I find that the casino’s games are something to be avoided (And frankly I avoid the casino entirely most of the time because of this). They’re not fun for me, and I hold to the opinion that they do not mesh well with the rest of the game, especially when you play the game on a format (Such as mobile) that does not allow you to savescum if the odds go completely south on you on a terrible loss streak.

This is now the most realistic game in the entire CoG catalog.
