Relics 3: Ashes for Gold UPDATED 15th October, Final Update, see Post 741 for details

Oh great! I’m pleased to hear that it all worked for you guys. Thanks so much for taking the time to show it around!

Prob not, as I don’t have any plans to go back to France in this game. Those guys are just there to illustrate the point that the traveller specialist knows people everywhere!

Does that mean no more Agent theta in this book?

There will definitely be more Agent Theta!

Also, in case anybody didn’t see this announcement on the Relics 1 discussion thread, I’ll copy the text below of an announcement of a big new feature in the first game:

Hey everyone!

This was a little late coming but, in keeping with several requests on the forums and in reviews, we have just pushed a big new update for the original Relics of the Lost Age game adding chapter saves! Now, if you die mid-chapter, you’ll have the option to go back to the start of the chapter (in addition to the old option of just going back a few choices), and you’ll also be given the choice to replay a chapter at the end of that chapter, too.

We still haven’t got endgame saves set up for the upcoming sequel, but we’ll hopefully be getting to that soon!

Oh wow, I’d completely forgotten about this series… I remember giving feedback for the demo on the first game but then I stopped coming to the site and I never got around playing the full game till yesterday. I’m glad I did, the finale was some crazy stuff.

I just saw the message about crediting beta readers for the first game @Schliemannsghost but I feel bad because I never replied! Oh well, it’s still a touching gesture so belated thanks for that lol

Still, I’m kinda bummed out that I can’t play the current demo now, since Relics 2 apparently isn’t out till June and I never knew the demo was a thing… :frowning: I’d forgotten just what a magnificent bastard Maria was and now I’m left wanting more!

Welcome back to the site, I’m glad you rediscovered the Relics series!

You’re not the only person who can’t read the current demo because they’re still waiting for Book 2, but the good news is that it’s coming along now, and we’re just a few short months from release. And if you liked María, I think you’ll like Book 2 as well. She’s back - and this time you can get to know her very well indeed!

Starting to think about Chapter 4 now…

It’ll be called Dead Man’s Chest. Readers of the series will know that I always try to have one chapter that’s very silly and full of comedy and clowning (London in Book 1, Venice in Book 2). This will be the silly chapter for Book 3. A big, colorful, over-the-top pirate adventure with Zhu in the Caribbean, featuring Heidi Hahn, Vince Tran and a couple of amusing call-backs to earlier books. Timbers will be shivered, buckles will be swashed and no pirate cliche will be neglected. Yarrr!

Here’s the moodboard!

The little boy in the video is actually Zhu. They made him make videos like this at his spy school, as part of their psychological warfare operations. It was even more inhumane than we realized.

OK, a new version of Chapter 3 is up! Main changes below.

  • You can now select Bailey’s gender! I realized a couple of days ago that I really screwed this up and uploaded a placeholder thing that I never got round to updating before upload. Now, for players for whom Maria is dead, you’ll get to choose whether your temporary companion is Adam or Amy Bailey.

  • Tweaked the dinner party a little so that the MC already knew Madeline Blake from their student days.

  • Added a new conversation scene with David Stirling just before going into the pub.

  • Slightly lengthened and reworked the María sex scene.

  • Added a couple of amusing “let’s pretend to be a couple” moments with Maríá in the dinner scene.

  • Reduced the number of pronoun drops in the Becker conversation, to make that clue harder to spot.

I hope this all helps with some of the issues people have identified. I’m going to spend a few days implementing suggestions to Chapters 1 and 2 that I haven’t got round to yet, then it’s on to the next interlude and chapter!

Oh man, I can’t wait - I wish the release was sooner!

Something I wanted to ask (I don’t want to go through the thread for Relics 2 just in case I get spoiled) is if there will be some sort of character porting between 1 and 2? And for Relics 3 down the line too, of course. There wasn’t anything like SoH where you can save your character at the end of Relics 1, but maybe an update for when Relics 2 is released?

Yes, there will be a save import feature. HG only add that feature when it’s getting close to the release date for the sequel, so it’s not there yet, but hopefully it will go up soon: I’ll announce it when it does. And yes, the intention is that it should be possible to import the same character all the way through, into Relics 2 and then again into Relics 3.

Interlude 3 will be coming with chapter 4 or before that?
Btw nice look of chapter 4. A crazy chapter without the Amazonian will always be less crazy. The lovable agent theta can add just the right amount of craziness to any chapter.
I have a slight issue with current distribution of choices based on specialisation. Ghosts of book 2 were exorcised then but they are rearing their ugly heads again. I’m afraid that Traveler is not again getting its due so far in the 3 chapters and overall specialised choices have been somewhat less. @Schliemannsghost maybe please take a look.

I’m having a bit of difficulty comprehending you, but you’re essentially saying that there aren’t enough grandfather/speciality questions, correct? I’d have to agree, but I’m sure he’s aware of it.
