Psy High — Read minds, fight evil, and save the junior prom!

@Jason_Miller I haven’t played Fatehaven yet, I’ve specifically stated that in this thread. The game’s been out four months? I’ve surrounded your spoiler in spoiler text but please can you be careful of posting spoilers in unrelated threads in the future. Thanks.

Actually, that’s not true. There’s two deals Choice of Games offer their official authors. One of which offers royalties and a small advance. The other of which offers no royalties but a larger amount of money upfront. So, no, if authors are on the second deal it doesn’t matter to them whether a game costs $5 or $1 they’re getting the exact same amount of money.

Also we’re getting a bit off topic but please feel free to start a new thread if you want to discuss any of this. (Or dig around there might be one already about)

My point was…that we are paying for it. Either of they select the cash up front or the royalties. They’re getting some type of funding for it. On the main page of the website. It reads “want to offer, suggestions feedback etc post here” Fate Heaven has been out much longer then four months I believe. Because it’s been on the site ever since I first signed up.

I thought it would be helpful to add my input that games like Robot, Fate Heaven and Mobster that give a person several options and alternative ending’s would be helpful. I didn’t realize I’d get the push back that Fate Heaven was a novel on rails. I and others think its a headache to add alternative paths. I thought that’s what choice games was all about. think I’m just going to stick to silently reading the games instead posting on the forum.

Respectfully. I’m just going to stick to reading the forums. I look forward to reading the new story’s as they come out. Thank you.

@Jason_Miller

No one’s saying that your feedback’s not useful. We’re not trying to discourage you. No one’s saying your views aren’t helpful. I’d definitely suggest signing up for the next beta test that appears on the forums since I know you’ll be really good at helping to shape a game.

I’ve not played Fatehaven, but there’s a thread you can discuss the game on, If you haven’t already posted there you should, since I bet the author would love to hear how much you love the game. The sort of positive feedback you’re giving means a lot to authors. It was released on August 8th 2014 (according to the blog), which is a little over four months ago, however it was tested on the forums before then so you might have seen it there.

You’ll also find firstly, these forums don’t always represent the views of the general audience of choice of games. We’ve a rather diverse range of opinions. There was a very vocal contingent criticising Heroes Rise, for instance, however Heroes Rise is one of the most popular and best sold choice games.

We were just trying to explain to you a little of how things work. That adding alternative paths isn’t as simple as it seems. For those who can do it it’s incredible though. I’d definitely suggest you have a go of coding up your own game too, if just to fiddle around and see how it all works. It gives an interesting insight into things.

Psy-High does actually have multiple endings.

Choice of Games is definitely about having alternative paths, of having choices, of telling interactive stories. I, for one, wrote over 10,000 words of feedback on Psy-High while I was testing it and you can bet that some of that was suggesting a few alternative choices.

But, by the time we get to this point, when the game’s finished. Well, of course we can wish there were extra powers, but all that can be done about that is just trying to explain why there wasn’t.

I don’t think you should stop posting. You’ve very valid points. You can definitely help the authors here. Have a look at the various WIP and Beta test threads for instance, and you can have a direct hand in shaping games. Or have a go at making one of your own. (Or do both).

Well. I do enjoy the games. I just bought the newest game. Monster title last night. I just felt like I was having to be on the defensive to explain why I am more interested in “alternative ending story’s” that what I gathered this whole “Choice Games” was about. Like the Witcher, and Bioware games.

Where it matters where you pick. Games that have a high replay value. It just felt when I was describing the games. It felt more like a burden to some people to include that in their games. I played Psy High a few times. I’m aware there are different endings. Nothing’s wrong with it.

It said “suggestions are welcome” on the fourm. I decided just to describe what I personally liked. I searched for Fate Haven thread. I couldn’t find it. If you haven’t played it already. I suggest you do so. It’s a long story but a good one with tons of options.

Jason – glad you decided to stick around. (: The Fatehaven thread is here, per the review I linked to earlier:

Suggestions are warmly welcomed on the forum; so are comments on suggestions, and the conversations that start that way.

There are at least a couple of fun conversations that could spark off your feedback – one about the work that goes into writing each alternative story line (where I agree with FG that it’s not as easy or economical as your posts suggest) and one about what specifically Fatehaven did right to make it feel less linear than it is. Probably best done on its thread.

But if those wouldn’t be fun for you, then they won’t happen, and that’s fine.

Yeah, thanks for your insight. I did end up buying the game, and actually just finished it. Even though I found it quite short, I really loved it! Very enjoyable. It’s definitely worth my time and money. Kudos to the author

So happy with this COG. I thought it was going to be another incomplete COG like so many others. Glad I got to see the end in one setting. Maybe the new titles could learn something from this. I’d rather pay more for finished work than pay little for incomplete stories. I know this sounds more like a rant(maybe it kinda is), but the last few COG’s I got didn’t have an ending only a hint at a sequel that might never be worked on. That’s the only frustrating thing about COG’s. So yes I was quite happy with this title.

At prom it when you find Mackenzie crying it says you can cash in on your favor. What favor do you have to do for Mackenzie and how do you get there

@joejoe21Depending on how events unfold, MacKenzie can get in trouble with the principal, and you may act to get her out of trouble; the favor you can get is basically for her to create a distraction.

@Lys how would i get to this scene

@joejoe21 It’s been a while since I played this, so bear in mind that I could be wrong on how to trigger this scene. The key is not to join the Gold Crown Team (the ones studying for scholarship).

There will come a point where Taylor/Tyler will ask you if you wish to join the Gold Crown Team. I chose not to do so. Then your parents will ask almost immediately afterward if you have plans to join the Gold Crown Team as well. I chose not to do so.

Then, in Chapter 6 I believe, you will get a page about the upcoming prom, such as whether you’ve been dreaming about it for a long time (or if single, it will mention that). Immediately after that one, the Mackenzie scene will trigger. There will be a line like: “It’s going to be horrible!” Mackenzie wails, as her friends bob their heads in sympathetic nods. “Jen’s going to ruin everything.”

At the bottom you will get a series of choices. Pick the middle one to defend Mackenzie. Then a few pages later you will get a choice of whether to follow up with Mackenzie…pick the third one, letting her know she owes you a favor.

@Lys thanks you so much it worked i found that scene

Is it possible to not get arrested at the end if you are romancing Carla?

Yes. I don’t remember what I did or didn’t do, but I didn’t even know you COULD be arrested.

Damn I get arrested every time I try to be with her

Could someone please tell me how to get mackenzie to owe you a favour? And how can I get the triple date achievement?

I can’t remember the exact situation, but at some point later in the game she gets accused of something by a teacher and you can stand up for her. You can then ask for a favor in return. Sorry if thats vague, its been awhile since I played. Scene should be pretty clear when it happens though. Just help her out when shes about to get in trouble.

Just curious, but in the scenes where the main character (you) and Carl (a possible love interest) make out, is there…uh, more implied? I kept thinking that sex was happening, especially in these parts:

//The instant you turn the car off, Carl reaches for you. “I’ve been waiting to do this all night,” he murmurs.

What happens next is much more fun than staying at the party would have been.

It’s very late by the time you drop Carl off at his house. //

Maybe.
You might need to ask the author for a definitive answer but it seems like alot more is implied.

I expect it’s left ambiguous for you to mentally fill in however much sex your character would be comfortable having. I think it works better than having an awkward choice of “first base,” “second base,” or equivalent.
