Pon Para and the Great Southern Labyrinth — War against dark gods to save reality!

I’m playing PPGSL again so I an have a character read for PPUS. I’m currently up to chapter 5 and I’ve been wondering, does the killer at Fort Ulgas depend on my choice or is the answer random? I’ve played a few times with various results.

Two times, I’ve guessed it was Twane and I was correct. Once I guessed it was Vespet, but it turned out to be Ecnifien. So far, I have not tried every option yet.

The correct killer is randomised for every playthrough. Your investigation can help you narrow things down (by discovering the murder weapon, footwear, cape colour, and gender), but there’s a combination of clues that still leaves you two options: knife, sandals, brown cape, and male voice can be Twane or Ecnifien.

Or, at least, I haven’t been able to narrow it down past that.

EDIT: Don’t forget to inspect everyone when you’re given the chance, and then check the “Consider what you know” option for a rundown of the clues you’ve collected.

Can anyone give exact choices that will increase the scholar, priest, diplomat, artisan, and burglar skills? I’m trying to do a playthrough where I end up at least skilled in all 5 while succeeding at most important checks, (such as Melaxu keeping her hand while sparing the Emissary, keeping good relations with important characters, Mytele surviving, unlocking secret magics, etc.), though I’m having a lot of trouble. My biggest issue is finding ways to raise my diplomacy skill. If all 5 aren’t possible then being skilled in scholar, artisan, diplomat, and priest would be my choices. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, I know some people don’t think it’s in the spirit of CoG to min/max but it’s part of my playstyle as a perfectionist/completionist and gives me comfort and satisfaction. What I’d specifically like help with is identifying the “canon” build for each of the archetypes purely in terms of personality/profession so I can have the “correct” playthrough for the General/Hierophant/Sage/Shadow.
I’ve workshopped a few PTs and still haven’t quite been satisfied that I combined the intended traits, and going into TUS with 4 pristine PonParas would be great.

Hey Kyle!

I had a couple of questions.

  1. I noticed early on that you can raise some stats like wisdom to a godly level within the first chapter. Do you really need a skill at godly? Or did you make it overkill on purpose?

  2. In relation to the second game, how necessary is having to play the first?

Hey! First of all, congratulations with second game being released! I have one question.

While playing this part, I encountered interesting situation. During fight against Wormhand we have this one amongst available options:

#I throw my @{yune_weapons conjured dagger|knife} at Wormhand and retreat. He can't catch me, especially if he has a knife in him.

And this options checks our Bearing and Archery. I may be wrong, but isn’t this supposed to be Grace? We also aready have bearing-related option right next to this one ( #I call Melaxu and Tamur, coordinating them to stop Wormhand before he kills me. )

I guess it’s nothing critical, I just wanted to make sure that eveything works as intended.

  1. You certainly don’t need stats that high, though specialist playthroughs reward extreme focus. I think that, in general, the second game rewards stat focus more than the first does.

  2. If you play the first game, your character’s stats get ported over to the second, as do certain events in the world (NPCs alive or dead, cities devastated or slightly-less-than-devastated, etc.). It’s fine to jump right into the second game first, though. If you do, the first chapter fills you in on important background details, and though you can’t actually change the setting details, you’re able to build a custom character.

@Darakkuu_Nobelu You’re right! I changed it to Grace, which is what it should be. The update should go through in a few days once I finish compiling and fixing more bugs.

Is there a way too save barec? I’ve tried everything I can and he still dies.

No, his death is important plot point.

In universe, are babies given names based on their parents’ names and then they choose their own name later? Or is Pon Para just special because their parents are war heroes?

People with important parents have titles like Pon Para, especially if those parents held political positions in the Sea Kingdom. You’ll meet a few more (Thon Mordu and Var Cora) in the second game. Though come to think of it, I don’t think you learn who Cora, Mordu, Thon, or Var were…

What I’ve been wondering is what would have happened if Pon and Para had had another child together before Pon Para came of age, since the conversation with Gronput implied that was the only name Pon Para had had until recently. Would Pon Para’s younger sibling have also been called Pon Para?

Does anyone know how to increase the diplomat profession other than the politics choice in the beginning?

Did you ever figure out what goes best with Mariner? If so what is it? I’ve been stuck on it for days smh.

I was wondering the same, i fancied having a go with that to. Would be greatful for help on this to.

I know you can max it by chapter 2 but leaves you very one-sided

Yes makes it harder when investigating the murder etc. I’m thinking probably warrior or something similar like that or maybe a scholar or diplomat etc.

If you have the DLC, taking Amiri gets you another diplomat point (or thief, depending on what you pick), and… I got another Diplomat point form somewhere, but I can’t remember where.

Hello again! Found another peculiar thing.
During attempt to steal Lacquer Tablet near the end we have this option:
#@{tamur_knows_about_condors Tamur and I|I} just throw the whole chest out the window. Hardly a dignified burglary, but I can retrieve the tablet below and flee.
I noticed that it always gives us *set safe_mod +((tamur/10)-5)
But, if i understood idea correctly, this bonus should apply only when you have Tamur with you.
