Playing as the Henchman? (Interest check)

Ok, so this sounds like an awesome idea! I am sooooooo looking forward to this! Heck, I’ve been looking forward to something like this since Pokémon Blue! I have ALWAYS wanted to join Team Rocket, help build it up to the greatest organization it can be, make my way up the ranks until I am just below Giovani, and then TEAR IT DOWN FROM THE INSIDE!!! :smiling_imp:

I doubt I’ll be able to do something like that here, but it still sounds fun :innocent:

I WOULD love this I can imagine myself playing as a Harley Quinn like hench(wo)man! I wish you good luck on writing!

This idea seems thoroughly compelling, though if you don’t mind, I have a few questions. Since this is just an interest check, you don’t need to do too in-depth…I’d just like to get a sense of what you’re thinking(what is it with me and trying to get inside people’s heads? :stuck_out_tongue:)

  • Why exactly is there an evil orginization in this world? Do they all have one collective cause, or are they just drawn together by the fact that they’re “evil-doers”?

  • Have you considered other classes of characters? For some reason, information brokers seem like the perfect type of villains to me. Sneaky, normally pretty smart, and have the tendency to stick it to you when you’re least expecting it(or maybe you do expect it but you just don’t know when it’s coming?)

  • Would there be an option to do a little coup d’etat action? Overthrowing the head boss seems like the perfect villainy thing to do. After all, the power-hungry can’t be powerless forever, right? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Overall, the premise seems to hold much promise. I’m eager to see what you’ll do with it.

If you have a question about anything, I’m sure that the CoG forum family would love to give you a hand. We’re here to help whenever you might need it.

  • Think less Legion of Doom, more HenchTemp Inc. There are plenty of evil organizations, but the place you start in is pretty much a business, just catered towards villains. A bit more of an explanation is in the demo/will be expanded upon further in the demo.

  • …Kind of? I’m still playing with the idea have ‘if these two stats are high enough, you get extra options’, but not till later in the game/ when I figure out what I’m doing.

  • …You’re playing a villainous henchperson.

Are we going to be able to create our character’s appearance? : like hair color, hair style, eyes, skin hench(wo)man outfit style, etc

No, you’re locked into very basic choices. Your gender, villain’s gender, etc. Also, you’re locked into male/female, in-universe reason being issues with shapeshifting abilities, actual reason being I literally started yesterday and I need to keep it basic.

Why do that when you can just use them like the useful, idiot figurehead instead, which means that if the plans do go awry they can take the fall for it too. Another angle could be that my mc would simply be too lazy to become the villain-in-chief himself of course.

Tsk tsk. Don’t we always hear that “seize the day” kind of speech? Though an overly lazy MC would be an explanation as to why they wouldn’t be the head honcho(I identify with this more than I should ) Nevertheless, do evil underlings stay as evil underlings forever?

@Gronzen, When you say “locked” do you mean preset before the game? Or simply that the MC’s gender will be the opposite of the villains gender?

I’ll stop myself from asking any more questions as I assume they’ll be addressed in the demo(most of them, at least.)

Depends on how lazy they are versus how well they’re paid. If mine is paid enough to live a life luxury then why would he stick his neck out further than he has too in order to become the big bad himself, with all the risks that entails.
As for Carpe Diem, that depends on my mc’s level of ambition, some are naturally more ambitious then others, whether from internal drive or compelled by their (abysmal) circumstances. That this one accepted the henchman position in the first place is at least a preliminary indicator to me that he may not have that many ambitions apart from an awesome physique and an easy life of luxury.

My mc would be happy being a henchman as my mc’s are always super submissive :stuck_out_tongue: , so they simply wouldn’t feel comfortable having the responsibility being number one would entail and having all the attention them and such. But yeah, another reason is what you slightly touched on, the boss I imagine as a Dr Evil type boss xd, so way, way too much publicity and therefore way too many Austin Powers trying to kill you :p, way better to stay out of the lime light, feeding the boss ideas and like number 2 in the Austin Powers films actually, trying to turn your boss into a professional, serious evil mastermind :stuck_out_tongue: .

You’ll be able to pick the genders of the villain, the hero, and the sidekick, but you’re locked into only being able to pick male or female.

@CreepyPastaKitty Honestly, that reminds me of Dr. Draken and Shego from the cartoon show Kim Possible. In fact, if I could, I would love to have my MC like Shego!

The gadgets are always the most fun part. I’d so go for the mad scientist role! Then I’d build a little insurance device to make sure said evil master wouldn’t murder me.
Be that one annoying henchman that big E can’t get rid of or be successful without. And eventually usurp the throne while the villain plays decoy and I run the show secretly miahahahaha!

Sry megalomania is contagious

Am I the only one here who really wants to romance a cute sidekick? Like, while our bosses are fighting in the main room, we go into another room and pretend to fight (but we’re actually just making out…) We could bond over the fact that we’re the ones who do all the real work, and they get all the glory.

I’m more interested in being the Zhu Li to an evil Varrick. Completely loyal, hypercompetant, and overburdened from all the responsibility placed on them by their brilliant yet lacking-any-common-sense boss.

If i can be like a henchman from Timesplitters (old game that you guys should know about) sign me up now! Nuh nuh nuh

I would love to see this happen! Imagine the hero coming to save the day…but ending up falling in love with one of the hench(wo)men! Or better yet, his/her sdiekick falls in love with the hench(wo)man, and the sidekick is scolded for it. (I m sorry, I just really like forbidden love stories…)

How about a henchman that was saying formerly a sidekick but was mind wiped??

sounds fun! like the others have mentioned, i too have always been interested in the idea of not being the ““protagonist”” of the story. tbh just seeing the title made me come up with several character ideas right off the bat!

question: would it be possible in the future to steer our boss away from villainy? or maybe influence their ideas slightly? oh and would it be possible to ask for sneak peeks of the characters (esp. our boss)? pretty please? :confounded:
