Hey there!
Really loving the game so far.
My only concern is how confusing the Stat checks are.
Sometimes they fail even though i have pretty high stats. And sometimes the choicec are outright confusing.
Like what is (just a made up example) “Wit + Athletics/Awareness Capped by Driving” supposed to mean?
Is it Wit + Athletics or Awareness? How does it determine which one to pick?
Is “Capped by Driving” supposed to mean that no matter how high your stats are, the result can only go as high as your driving?
And does being hungry affect stat checks? Or what is happening?
I am confusion?!
Can someone explain the way the checks are calculated? In detail please.
That would be the case.
But I’m pretty sure every single character starts with at least Driving 1.
So you’d have a 2 in this case.
No idea on how many tests you could pass with that (never got a gauge on how high the thresholds were, just that I only failed about 2 tests when going through the game with a range of 3-7 points, averaging around 5).
Good rule of thumb that I used was that if I couldn’t get a 5, it was safer to use a Discipline.
Combat scenarios? Doesn’t matter how many points, use Celerity. Don’t duck around.
Well darn. Looks I am going to be forced to restart. Got the Refresh Now message due to error while loading game data. Seems to try to pop up Chapter 7 before it crashes back to the refresh now message. Kinda disappointing end to my first attempt through the game.
Haven’t tried it myself, but with a Caitiff I think you’re better off keeping one side sweet on you only. Caitiff starts with really low Cam rep as part of their clan weakness, so getting their relationship up to get paid better by them means picking the choices that will alienate Julian most of the time.
It might be possible to keep Julian’s relationship someone decent while picking mainly Cam centric choices by giving information about the hospital drug smuggling ring to him, selling Caul’s research data to him while destroying her facility but honestly I don’t think its viable to play both sides. (And also I think both of those choices lower your Cam relationship anyway?)
It’s possible, at least to some degree. For example, giving Julian information about Tremere’s research (while going along with Caul’s plan), refusing to give him the hospital (while successfully keeping the thin blood safe there), contacting Gangrel anarch group in the migrant camp will result in more or less good relationship both with Camarilla and Julian even after the first set of missions. But that was without additional bonuses/penalties for the chosen clan.
Alas, even in this playthrough I had to decide which side I join in the final chapter, but till this moment it was basically neutral path, without the sides going at each other’s throat.
You can also be greedy and get an extra 5 to 10k almost each mission that adds up too and not lose too many relationship points with Julian and the prince, if you make it up to them later. As the game provides plenty of opportunities to offset any minor hits you take due to personal greed.
So, yeah, I tend to go full pursuit of luxury, which is also why I was bummed I couldn’t upgrade my mc’s wardrobe mid-game to go along with the fancier car and apartment. Not surprisingly high charisma, manipulation and persuasion all help in fleecing people and vampires for the maximum amount of extra cash.
That said this mc is somewhat poor for a vampire no matter what, imho, but maybe that’s because I’m mainly comparing it to Jason’s own vampire game, where my mc has already accumulated assets worth the equivalent of millions of dollars today. As for the bloodlines world specifically I guess I’ll see next year how this one compares to Parliament of Knives.
The patch yesterday seems to have fixed most of the game-breaking bugs. That means we’re going to hold off on pushing any more patches until Friday or Saturday, so folks’ playthroughs don’t get ruined again.
The planned fixes are mostly typos and QoL improvements, as well as some tinkering with the ghouls some more.
As always, if you see a problem (typo, bug, missing word, random paragraph break, etc etc) please screenshot it and email it to support@choiceofgames.com
Hmmm, I think being a Ventrue or a Tremer would be better suited for playing both sides and still come out on top. The reason I picked Caitiff for the manipulative and greedy character is because I love a rags-to-riches story and I think a Caitiff is the good clan for it.
I guess I should stick to Julian for awhile and then ditch him in the end and run with his 2100X vitae
Raul only seems to trigger if you pick the ‘snip the wires’ option when trying to free the prisoners. You don’t have to pick the ‘ask around for him’ action beforehand for him to trigger, so save yourself an action and do something else.
Ok so, first of all, I am SO happy this game is out. I really enjoy the WOD setting AND I’m a huge fan of vampires in general, so this CoG is quite a treat!
There were a couple things that bugged me a bit, most notably the romance - they didn’t seem to be very fleshed out. I also wish epilogues were a bit more detailed and… Epilogue-y. Those are both personal preferences, however, so I’m sure not everyone would like that! Haha.
The other thing is convictions. I didn’t understand the system fully, I suppose. Do you gain experience points based on the dots you accumulate? Or on the convictions gained from Aila? On that note, is it only possible to gain the stated convictions from her memories? It seemed that way, and if so, that’s a bit disappointing, since that doesn’t allow the MC to pick up the other half.
Now, on to the good things.
I absolutely LOVE the storyteller mode. It is the best thing ever. In CoGs it’s often difficult for me to determine which stat will correspond to which stat check, specifically, and that makes certain games very frustrating. Here, thanks to the transparency offered by storyteller, I feel like it’s easier to play EXACTLY the kind of character I want. It would be great to see this feature implemented in other CoGs.
The story was fun, too, and I think it did WoD justice. The atmosphere was fitting and the mechanics of the system was reflected well.
It’s too bad we didn’t get the option to play as an actual Malkavian, but I suppose that could require a whole separate story, heh.
Overall, I enjoyed this game a lot. I don’t know whether a sequel of any kind if planed, but I know I would love to have one. I also hope that aside for the two others already planned, even more games in this universe will be coming out.
Also I was checking out the links in this thread and https://www.cbr.com/vampire-the-masquerade-night-road-revs-up-the-world-of-darkness/: “The game has an introductory chapter, three sections and a grand finale. Each section contains three destinations to tackle in any order”
I’m… I’m pretty sure the game has two such sections, is there a mistake in this article, or did I somehow skip a whole section of this game?
As many people have stated before, if you want some good lovestories World of Darkness isnt the place to look for it. Most, if not all intimate relationships are toxic and parastical in nature. The kindred are undead creatures not an emotionally stable human being.
