I’m always a slut for star themed magic (which remains one of the Big Appeals of this game to me), so I tend to avoid the city magic. Plus even if I like living in Kelestri, investing enough to be unable to leave is not an appealing prospect.
This book has to be one of the best written Choose your own fate books I’ve seen in awhile. I mean the writing style is smooth, the flow is impeccable, the choices and stats aren’t choppy and actually have decent explanations in the Stats page. The amount of times it allowed me to change my mind based upon new information that I picked up on as the story progressed without it feeling forced is phenomenal. I cannot describe the joy that this book breathed into me. This is easily at the top of this list for me. 20/10✨️
Pretty good game, played twice so far and in the middle of a third playthrough.
Would have liked at the start of the game when you choose your romance settings, the option to choose the pure proud star brat option of ‘Humans are too far beneath me to romance’ with the option to change your mind at a certain later point of the story.
I’ve found the stats often confusing and I was generally unsure of what stats exactly was supposed to be tested.
if you dont mind my asking, what major choices did you make? I tried going for a similar path, generally aligning with the Harnessers and being pro kelestri at any given opportunity, but the Sorceress just ended up mad at me.
Did you side with her for the taking over the city part of the game. That makes it so that she will side with you for the getting the new star if you are not going to hand it over to the Grim Reminders or Naturalists
I tried not to since I figured it would be kind of iffy for me to be all pro harnesser and then just side with the sorceress in the end, but maybe ill give it a try
You can chose to do it peacefully and for the Sorceress to share power with the Assembly plus you if you want
Yeah, I get her to agree to that while siding with the tower in chapter 10, and then she doubles back on me because I guess she just hates my ass by that point
She is less mad at you if you go the peacefully route while siding with her
Your relationship with the Sorceress is the most important part of any endgame confrontations. There are things that affect how difficult relationship tests will be, like the condition of the Stars and what you wanted to happen to them, whether and how often you’ve previously sided with her, and the rulership situation (I was wrong earlier when I said that isn’t a factor, I forgot that I did incorporate it into some of the tests during beta), but a high relationship is ultimately what will let you get away with doing things other than just letting her have the Stars.
Gotcha. Gotta just keep it as high as possible, I suppose. Thanks!
“People take my money in Aurole. We’re still in Aurole. That’s my argument, and I’m not budging from it.”
The inspirational power of being a Karen.
In a story full of great characters and witty dialogue, this might be my single favorite conversation.
What a fantastic and well written game! the only criticism I have is that it have to end
I’m going to miss all the wonderful characters in this game, anyway looking forward to the Author next game
.
For me it has to be:
“Did you succeed my child?”
“No mother, this glowing person is a different ghost”
I love how snarky you can be in this.
Okay, so I just want to clarify something real quick. Is Vivian a randomized gender or trans female-to-male? Because on the cover of the book is a feminine figure who looks a lot like how the books describe Vivian. I’ve restarted the book 5 times now, and played the MC as different genders to see if it was gender-locked like in Dragon and Djinn, but he was still male every time, so I have to assume he’s trans.
Vivian is always male. I don’t think there’s anything that specifies him as cis or trans (which is not to say that I’m claiming him as trans representation, just that nothing precludes either interpretation as far as I recall). The glowing figure in the cover art is the Sorceress, not Vivian. (And while the cover art is awesome, it’s not the One True Visual Interpretation of any of the characters.)
I’ve actually been curious about the art for a while now, so I’m glad someone brought it up. I figured the glowing figure was probably the Sorceress rather than Vivian, although it’s nice to know for sure. The flying woman is obviously Natalia (and I want to raid her closet because that dress is exactly the kind of thing I would wear). I’m wondering if any of the other figures in the art can be identified with specific characters in the story. I assume the man without a helmet is a representation of the PC, and the others are members of the Sublime Guard, with the one with their back to us possibly representing Em, as the only one who seems possibly fair-haired.
The art is based on general descriptions I gave of people and places in the game, rather than necessarily representing a specific scene. I certainly recognize Nat and the Sorceress, otherwise I think it’s pretty open to interpretation.
