OUT NOW! "Royal Affairs"—Rule the school or be a royal disaster!

Speaking as someone who played Mass Effect 2 first, and still enjoyed myself, there’s always playing without references, going back to CdlC, then redoing Royal Affairs for the extra spice too!

Royal Affairs really is a phenomenal game, though I did already know that was the case :smile:

would just like to say, i spent the past few hours bingeing the book in one sitting. without going into spoiler territory of course i just wanna say I LOVED IT!!! WAHOOOO!!! A GREAT GAME, CANNOT WAIT TO REPLAY WITH DIFFERENT DECISIONS/ROs.

so uh……. @HarrisPS when are we getting a sequel hmmmmm??? it’s been 6 hours since release surely you’ve had enough time to do a squeakquel by now :thinking::thinking::thinking:

no but seriously, loved the game! the characters were so sweet and goofy (javi really grew on me!!) and overall tone and atmosphere was just so comfy while also having depth. it’s 3 am now but i’ll def replay it when i wake up later!! congrats again on your 4th release!

This was an instant buy for me. I greatly enjoyed the Beaumont/Trevelyan poly route and am already looking forward to romancing Javi because they’re so wonderfully, unavoidably in-your-face ace that it simply makes me happy. It’s immensely gratifying to see an ace character being able to confidently assert their boundaries instead of having to accommodate allo expectations in order to be more ~palatable. Thanks for that! :slight_smile:

Can’t wait for the Hannah/Cataphrak collaboration! :yum:

This was wonderful! @HarrisPS I was as thoroughly pleased with Royal Affairs as I have come to expect from your works. Thank you!

Did you apologise for/ask if you made him uncomfortable when you got to that point? That was such a nice touch (and just plain nice to see as an option.)

I’m actually enjoying RA enough that I’m considering doing a new playthrough of Creme in spite of how little I liked it.

Oooooh, my Sir Arturo d’al Maradirez would hate that! Bring it on, I say! (As fond as I’ve become of Sir Arturo, he is a bloodthirsty sexist ass.)

Hey Hannah, Royal Affairs is such a great story! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: OMG Asher is just… just… precious. :pleading_face:

Well, here’s an accurate image of me during every romantic scene with Asher:

I also really enjoyed the way we can engage political discussions in this game. In ALL in for my sufragist-suporter Royal :rofl: I’ll go for Trevelyan next (but being matchmaker for him and Beaumont was really nice too)

And I must say, you really did a great job with Javi, because I hated him in the demo, but by the end my MC became friends with him. And now I think he’s cute. Even when he’s being grumpy or an ass to my MC he’s cute. I don’t even know when this happened. :rofl:

A jolly time was had by the prince.

  • Hot air balloons were requisitioned.
  • Luxuriant baths were had.
  • The student council was put firmly under the prince’s thumb.
  • Headmasters at both schools jumped when the prince said jump.
  • The machinations of a foreign empire in internal politics were dealt with and their visiting Royal was consistently and thoroughly embarrassed and made to look bad.
  • The school was given an inspection and the inspector rightly obeyed the prince’s suggestions about the nature of the report that should be written.
  • The next headmaster was personally chosen by the prince.
  • the prince graduated with high honors and as the most popular student in the school, complete with an entourage of younger students to carry his many belongings.
  • Suffrage was defeated and the people not only didn’t mind, they rejoiced.
  • Agitators were apprehended, underwent rendition to faraway lands and imprisoned, and their reputations vigorously sullied, their movement discredited.
  • Thanks to the high competency and due diligence of the prince, said efforts remained firmly in the shadows.
  • Multiple attempts by characters to make the prince feel bad about the fate of said agitators were laughably dismissed.
  • The prince’s School won sports day and the prince led his pet to victory in an individual event.
  • Many hearts were wooed and broken, save for the one chosen.
  • The queen was informed who I would be choosing to marry and obeyed.
  • The heir apparent was not only convinced that I should be monarch but went to convince the queen likewise on my behalf.

All in all, as foretold…

Lol, making fun of Javi is one of the best things about this game xD

How did you win sports day? I’ve played through twice and have won the individual race, but the school lost.

Do you have to chose the sports option when chosing a club?

No, it was student council for me. I’m presuming that it had to do with the time spent shaping the school in my image and motivating people accordingly. It’s possible that the day is also reflective of goings-on beyond the school, and again the things my character was pursuing were ascendent.

Kinda interesting, seeing the greater and greater initial influence that the main characters have.

And, as with the other two in the series, this is a wonderful time. This is definitely the most light-hearted of the three but it is balanced out by the weighter, more ambiguous issues involved here.
(And, I assume, this is to act as a nice contrast to the darker tone that Noblesse Oblige took.)

Went for Asher because I am a sucker for a bodyguard romance and the class divide aspect definitely gave some nice spice to it (though reading up on what the poly option is also has me interested in that for my next go-around since I also love those two…and pretty much the whole friend group, honestly).

This game is also one of the few on here that pull off a Previous Player Character Cameo and it was quite nice to see not just my Creme de La Creme character referenced but have a (thankfully small since it doesn’t overshadow the new cast) impact on the final conflict. Felt like Red on Mt. Silver a bit and that was a nice feeling.

All in all, while it did feel a bit more fluffy than usual, this is still a stellar part of the Creme(?) Series and I do wonder if or how they expand this world next.

Their next game is indeed taking place in the same world, although in a different country, with an adult protagonist. There’s going to be a cat. And hot springs. I think that’s all we know at this point.

I really liked being back in this world again, it’s so charming. I love the checkpoint system at the end of chapters, it’s such a convenient feature, and while there were more than a few moments where I didn’t know what stat was being tracked, I had a much better idea of what was being tracked in this game as opposed to Creme.

While my MC from Creme didn’t appear (it made sense why of course), I did find it fun to see Lady Renaldt again, presumably still operating those mines unless I’m mistaken, which made me laugh whenever she showed up. I loved the cameos from Creme characters, they didn’t feel gratuitous at all but were nice to have.

I had my MC go for Asher who proved to be a super interesting character, and it was a very sweet romance that progressed well when pursuing that from the earliest point possible, particularly with her being encouraged to be bolder and my MC having a good relationship with his mother, leading to a lovely big engagement. I’m sure if the mother wasn’t supportive it’d be a different story. The concerns and hesitation expressed by Asher and my MC in the romance made perfect sense too, so the time it took for things to progress felt natural to me, which is good.

Didn’t expect my MC to befriend Javi and Trevelyan, or support the suffrage movement but both those things ended up happening, I got more attached than expected which was cool. Also positioned my MC to one day become King maybe, so that’s pretty sweet given his extreme popularity, and a King with a really strong mathematics degree very much appeals to me now. Wonder how Asher would handle being married to the reigning monarch though…probably quite well actually.

MC is gonna need to hire a new bodyguard.

The Trevelyan incident near the end did feel a bit forced in my playthrough, just came across as jarring, but ultimately I enjoyed it, the resolution to it, and appreciated having the option to be “evil” again, although this time I did punish the person responsible while still hiding a terrible secret, so I wasn’t quite evil this time, just couldn’t make myself do it.

So yeah, long comment but I want to get this done in one. I’ll have to play through again to make some different choices, Javi’s romance seems like it’d be hilarious. I enjoyed this game so much, it was well worth the wait, an improvement on Creme which I liked, and I will be keeping an eye on the progress of the next game.

Bought it, read it, loved it made me want to replay both again and again

Given a choice between sorting matters out with lashings of ginger beer and lesbians or failing to sort them out with gratuitous war crimes and institutionalised stupidity - Creme vs Infiniverse is much like the Democratic Alliance vs the Galactic Empire.

@emelsi I’m glad it worked in the end - I hope you enjoy!

@attolia hooray! Have fun!

@Coy_Cok it’s been a long journey but it’s HERE!

@CreedH00d Thank you so much!

@Ghostfriendly Hmmmm, not sure on other potential princesses but I will say that you can generally romance whoever you like depending on your personality (but your actions/what you say will affect things of course!), and I think the personality traits are better managed.

@Adrian_Waruinge I hope you have a lovely time with Royal Affairs, it was fun to return to the Gallatin Mountains again!

@eldensalkeld it’s been a huge few months for new releases and there are even more to come - very exciting!

@AletheiaKnights PUG. HAT. HAT. PUG.

@eshos.ian I’m so pleased you had a good time!!! Do get some sleep though! A 6 hour sequel would be akin to the browser-refresh-game-release miracle, but I am working on something new as we speak, there’s a tidbit at the end of the interview :heart_eyes:

@feurio I’m delighted that you enjoyed Beaumont/Trevelyan and it truly means so much that Javi’s confidence in themselves made you happy :sparkling_heart:

@el_coracero hahaha!

@Keller I’m thrilled, thank you so much and it’s awesome that you had a good time!

@AnneWest that you enjoyed Royal Affairs more than Creme (and that you tried out RA after not liking Creme) is an amazing compliment, I’m really pleased!

@RenataC bahahaha that picture!! Amazing. Have fun romancing Trevelyan, woohoo!

@phimseto CONGRATULATIONS on an immensely powerful playthrough, I would not want to come up against your royal!!

@Cingulum_diaboli hehe. I liked writing Javi a lot (both their lines and the MC’s lines when teasing them!)

@Thecriticofinnocence I’m so pleased you enjoyed it! I did go for a relatively light tone because of balancing school time with the national events going on in Westerlin, and also reflecting the MC’s sheltered (pampered!) life. I’m really happy that the Creme MC worked for you - those bits where you talk to them directly were some of the most challenging sections to write because I really didn’t want them to overshadow the new MC or feel out-of-character.

@Akme2000 I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and found it was an improvement - thank you for the comments!

@Rxpct amazing!!! I hope you have just as much fun on your next playthroughs!
