though I think @poison_mara’s right about it being less of an issue because it’s a personality trait, I like the idea of keeping all the spider buffs out there on-side. So good save @Zilla! We don’t want to alienate those guys. . .
And venomous does still have cool ring to it as a personality trait.
Regarding how they hunt - wow that’s a good question - unlike the fishing spider I see them clinging inside crevices, covered in little silvery bubbles (all part of the display) and waiting with poor, half-sucked dry, paralysed Nemo held out in front of them in their long forelegs to seduce more prey.
So I guess they’re more like Diving Bell Spiders - but they use their air pockets as extra disguise while they hunt.
That’s some intricate fine tuning you’ve just done. Nice one @Zilla!
Thanks, and I agree with @poison_mara it doesn’t really matter if it’s called Poisonous or Venomous for the personality trait, but it matters for the fiction spider if that makes sense… I just really find animals interesting.
Also @nightcap, are the wolves Grey Wolves? Because most wolves are Grey Wolves, the species not the color.
As someone with severe aracnophobia, this thread has become a lot more disturbing.
Anyways, I got a Jeweled Panda on my character - yay! I also got an error during Anselm’s dialogue, but I haven’t been able to replicate it yet. Something about going in and out of the stats screen? May just be a hiccup on dropbox though.
As I stare at the , I can’t help but wonder if they exist in the world @nightcap is building, and I can’t help but remember that there is a strain of Koala Chlamydia that can cause death in Koalas.
Haha, sorry I shouldn’t laugh. . it’s just the way this conversation reads is pretty amusing.
Glad you got the Panda - thouuugh I think @Zilla can confirm that is a. . Koala
I think I may be causing people problems when I update the scenes on dropbox while they’re still reading maybe?
After investigating I think that caused @vampierkid222’s problem yesterday. (changing the timeline during his demo playthrough)
I did update the demo after lunch. But your issues shouldn’t have been caused by moving between an old chapter and an updated one. . . a mystery then. We need @Sherlock221B!
Looks like a spirit animal coding error, if so could be an easy fix
I didn’t even know that happened…
I did a research project on Koalas for school once.
Also @nightcap when you say Panda, do you mean Red Pandas or Giant Pandas? Cause Giant Pandas are the ones most people think of, but Giant Pandas were named after Red Pandas.
It’s a competition some of you may not be aware of yet. I’m wondering whether to enter after I get my beta-test of the full draft version of ‘The Aegis Saga - Blood’
as I’m so shiny new I’m kinda hoping it might make a few people notice me (and the Saga) - but I think I’d only participate
once the beta was released to you awesome testers
and if I can write the story within the world of Eris because I’m enjoying it so much!
As a senior judge of the Competition I suggest you compete. The story has to be complete new and about the theme that this year would be chosen. You probably could set it in your universe always it be a complete different story from any previous working.
Actually AHHHH I have it! I think I’d want to write about Bowyard. It’s not mentioned in ‘The Aegis Saga - Blood’ at all, literally just thought of it. Only one character comes from there.
It would be another city in Lydia (Lydia’s completely full of radically different, crazy city states) it could be really fun!
I have been judge in all editions, I feel old. That could working, But remember that has to be related to the theme. Also there are several secondary prices you could win if you work in the required plots. So read rules carefully
@nightcap Reading the lore? Always, even before the game starts, despite the (probable) massive spoilers. As for the contest, go for it! @poison_mara Judge high-five!
And having worked through each line I am now happy for now with introduction of extra choice up to the Yellow River scene. (I expect the beta-testing planned in within two weeks (eek) will highlight potential ways these can be deepened). Fresh demo uploaded.
AND - awesome americans now going home and ace aussies now waking up still have a chance to nail our QUESTION OF THE DAY. ‘How the hell do we inhibit, impede, and otherwise ambush Infodump’
This was the shipping forecast. Good morning, and good night.
@Zilla, those are some freaky spiders. I wouldn’t want to be stuck in the bathroom with one of them.
@nightcap, I believe I can help you with your infodumping problem.
Something to point of from the start:
If it doesn’t continue the plot, develop a character, build conflict, or engage the reader in some form of fashion, you should probably cut it.
As reducing the amount of infodumping that occurs, I’ve stood by my method of interjecting it during conversation, perhaps when two characters are arguing. It also helps to make the world feel more 3D, as the characters themselves are concerned about the problems.
Basically, what it comes down to is making the information relevant- not just for the readers, but for the characters as well.
Another thing to add is in-world mentors are an excellent way to provide the reader with information while supplying the character with information on how to survive in the world that they’re in.
I hope this isn’t too confusing. If you have any questions, just ask.
